    They're definitely not useless.

You do as you please, don't tell others how to view the stats on this.

If you don't like the deaths per capita comparison with other countries, then ignore them. That's your prerogative.

I won't be ignoring them though. Because I don't hide from reality, and cherry pick the stats that make me feel better.

Head in the sand stuff from many around here!

Uk only report hospital deaths. Usa same i think.
Apparently Germany were not counting people dieing with underlining conditions. So unless everyone is counting the same stat then its meaningless to compare.

I can never understand how anyone can decide that someone is "worked up" by looking at words on a screen??

You know nothing about me, so don't presume that I am "worked up"... I am very calm and not really a worrier or someone with anxiety issues. But anyone who is not concerned about where we're headed, very much has their head in the sand right now!

Perhaps you and others are not worked up enough, about our current death toll... which is very high compared with many other countries. Perhaps you have become desensitized to the large amount of deaths we are experiencing??

You appear to be worked up from your angry responses is all. I was genuinely trying to say take a break and look at the important stats you are focusing on the wrong numbers.

Mine was a genuine response to someone who I obviously thought appeared to be over anxious but it appears I was wrong you now want me to get worked up and accuse me of becoming desensitised instead of just rationally reading all the data.

Why can't the hse break down all the deaths in ages etc these deaths everyday there is no way these are just in their 70s and 80s I wonder how many Young healthy in Ireland are dying from this every day

This is frightening for me. 54% of the deaths is nursing homes. 46% is general population. That's of the death cases.

We are failing miserably. A month now since social distancing, pubs schools close and still increase in cases every night. We are on course to be the worst affected country in the world

Ireland has the 3rd highest death rate in the world per million people. You won't hear tony tell you that though.

Not remotely true. Plus, we are reporting all covid deaths, unlike many countries.

cause it's not true. we are 13th.

    We're not even 13th.
Some countries are only reporting deaths is hospitals eg. UK, France.
We include deaths in all settings.
So far 29% of deaths in Ireland have not been in hospital.

My brother in law was in bergamo in italy in late jan and madrid in March
He was very sick when he came back and applied for a test
They came out to test him after about 10 days then he was waiting weeks for the result
Last Wednesday he got the results saying he was negative
Today they rang him back saying he is positive
You can make up this ****

    How is your brother now?

Did he get sick coming home from Italy or from Spain?

Don’t ignore them so, do as you please. But don’t go around shouting them as if they’re some sort of watertight metric that can be accurately used to measure us to anyone else.

Stop telling people what to do!

Nobody's stats are "watertight" on this... there is too many unknowns right now.

But that doesn't mean we should ignore common metrics that we frequently use in everyday life for many other things... just because those particular stats don't give you the rose tinted image you and others are clearly searching for!

I look at all stats... I don't just cherry pick the one's that make me feel good.

Come on, that's serious catastrophic thinking.

We'll have one of the smaller death rates by the end of it all.

I'm curious. How are they in anyway different? Person A has virus, passes to person B,C,D,E. They go on to pass it on etc. You can understand that, yes?
Why would the hypothetical person A on a plane or ferry in my example be any different ? Do you think that contact tracing will prevent spread? There are stories on these threads from people working in GP practices of Covid positive patients popping into shops and others of the travelling to post letters. Contact tracing is a nonsense.

Popping into shops and posting letters. This is exactly why we need isolation centers. People cannot be trusted to isolate at home.

But its completly dishonest to compare statistics, not drawn from same base

Like saying 2 people smoked half box of fags, one box was 20,one was 30....headline is accurate, underlying data dishonest

Now,wheter claims uk and france not counting out of hospideal deaths etc is true idk....but i did read somewhere that 1 region in northern italy had 25K extra deaths compared to normal not listed as covid......idk if this true though

Grand go on spreading your b****x scaremongering rubbish. It won’t affect me or the majority of rational people on here. Extrapolate whatever you want from uneven numbers that even you have admitted contain too many unknowns. But sure why let that stop you ranting and raving. Work away, you’re only fooling yourself

Italy only tested those in hospital, people also died because the hospital system crashed so non Covid19 cases that could have been routine in January meant certain death in March.

The civil liberties people would blow a gasket if we put people under house arrest. They are bad enough at the moment and all the gov is asking people to sit in their house and enjoy the time off.

If you go to that worldometre site and click on Ireland it will give you a load of graphs, one of which is a bar chart of cases day on day

no I mean a breakdown by the irish authorities of cases from the last week ,rather then the entire time, a breakdown if they are happening in nursing homes or hospitals etc.

    What lockdown?

Exactly. I think a lot of us are like rebellious children.

Tell Irish people that they have to stay at home and suddenly they become adventurers who are being suffocated by the state.

What's bad about staying home and relaxing for a few weeks?

People who would barely leave the house all weekend are doing marathon walks now. The neighbours never once walked their dogs and now they are out wearing the legs off the dogs

Glad for the dogs but they should be walked every day in any case

Not per capita we won't... not if we keep on our current trajectory.

We can hope, of course, but hope alone won't do the trick.

We need to sharpen up every aspect of what we're doing as a country!

Lets put this in perspective for you. If you scroll down you will see it says.... 83 deaths average per day (3.45 in an hour)

RIP to all people who have died today.
