If anyone had sense they should see a big queue and turn around, do another time or day, I'm seeing queues since 730am this morning, shops everywhere packed....

It's the double shop (most places are closed tomorrow). Expect these boards to be full of "nobody told me. I'm starving. " complaints tomorrow.

That's what I did 4 times earlier, can't be arsed with Qs.

A question. How do supermarkets fulfil their orders for delivery? Do the pickers simply go up and down the aisles of an actual supermarket, i.e. one that's in use by the general public, or do they have some separate distribution place that's not open to the great unwashed?

    Yes, go around shop.

It's very strange how big companies can be very different depending on which store you're in. Regional managers should be out doing spot checks and store managers fired for breaches such as the one you describe.

Agree. I think people are willing to be patient for a good and healthy experience. In fairness two weeks ago when the deeper lock down was announced the same store was a great experience.

    Ferry / Plane / Farm / Factory -> truck ->Distribution warehouses -> truck-> backroom storage -> shelf...

If I was anxious, I'd not dwell on it.

They go up and down the aisles. It can be annoying as they often have no problem with barging in front of you or keeping a distance. I guess they’re under time pressure though.

Tesco Dun Lapghaire still doing an amazing job. Queue may be long but safe distance kept and security ensuring it is corralled effectively. People cleaning baskets and tills immediately after use. Perspex in front of cashiers. Shelves all stocked and no one panic buying. Never seen anything organised better. Compared to what I’m hearing in other places it’s night and day.

Wonder if they are taking the lead given it's the head office for the Irish business.

    Most supermarkets closed tomorrow though...
Pick another time sounds like easy advice but what time do you suggest on a bank holiday Saturday that you know would be quiet?

Realistically if you want to avoid the queues this weekend you need to shop in local corner shops, butchers etc. Even then there was a queue of 6 people to get into my local cornershop Spar.

Agree with you Daemonic, but if this was Rathmines, bear in mind that drivers using the car park were being let in ages before you.

Nialler, I am certain about this because the attendant at the door said so. He said you could get in the back door with a parking validation slip.

Went to Tesco's, Lidl, Aldi and SuperValu. Short queues well stocked. The joy of living near a small county town.

Did you really have to go to 4 different stores ?

It depends on the special offers and our weekly bank balance.

I wouldn't have gone to four if I didn't have to. Practiced good physical distancing. Didn't cough on anyone no one coughed on me. Cleaned my hands entering and leaving each store, used my own basket in each one. What was the problem?

I wouldn't have gone to four if I didn't have to.

I find it hard to believe there is something you need so desperately that you had to go to four different supermarkets for it.

If your brand of choice is not in stock in one shop, pick an alternative.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,133 ✭✭✭FloatingVoter

Easy to do four. I went to Centra and Lidl today. Centra because they sell cigarettes, Lidl doesn't. And Lidl for the food shop. Rinse and repeat on Monday.

I'm central Dublin and single so assuming smaller shops and a larger family you could easily be doubling up on that.

Seems excessive though, what's the reason?

The products I like are not all available at the one store.

Why use the word desperately, what are you trying to suggest.
If you want to substitute a product for an inferior one knock yourself out, I won't when I don't have to.

What risk are you referring to ? I go and shop for everything I need for the week in one trip. Instead of several trips during the week.

Maybe the OP can't afford just to drop everything they want in the trolley!

    And there we have it
No wonder the shops are so busy when you have this sort of selfish behaviour .
People are supposed to minimise travel and social interaction ,going to 4 different shops is reckless.

I'd be hard pressed going to 4 separate supermarkets at the best of times.

Nope the shops I went to were not busy. Already mentioned the short queues and well stocked. I also said the beauty of leaving near a small county town.
    Reckless, cop on to yourself.

I wonder what the staff working in those stores would feel about people doing one extra unncessary journey never mind three. Nevermind though, only essential workers.
