Sorry. Rte had a thing on the website and Chinese latterns are on it so apologies but I am no idiot. They look amazing and will tonight wfen released

In case you hadn't heard it, they were the most likely cause of that fire in the German zoo at the beginning of the year which killed 30 animals.

    https://www.rte.ie/news/world/2020/0102/1103989-german-zoo-fire/
Police have said the fire at a German zoo in which dozens of animals were killed – including eight great apes – was caused by a Chinese lantern launched by a mother and her two adult daughters as part of a New Year's Eve celebration.

Police in Krefeld, near the Dutch border, said the three women had turned themselves in on learning of the disaster, in which five orangutans, two gorillas and a chimpanzee were killed, alongside bats and birds.

The women had bought five lanterns, banned locally and in most of Germany for over a decade, on the internet, believing that they were allowed on New Year's Eve, chief investigator Gerd Hoppmann said.

"I've seen very many human corpses," Mr Hoppmann said. "And I was struck by how like humans the bodies of the great apes looked when transformed by the fire."

The women had inscribed the lanterns, papier mache balloons lifted by the heat of the flame inside, with good wishes for the new year.

Four had been found in the vicinity, while the fifth had been consumed in the zoo blaze.

"They launched the lanterns with good wishes and had no idea what could happen," Mr Hoppmann said of the women, who could face charges of causing fire by negligence, punishable by up to five years' imprisonment or a fine.

"It was courageous of them to turn themselves in: that deserves respect," he added, saying he would give no further details about the women, since they had received threats.

The zoo was festooned with candles and photos of the dead apes today, with locals telling television stations how affected they had been by the deaths of the animals, wh oincluded Massa, a 48-year-old male gorilla.

"The pain is unbelievable," Wolfgang Dressen, director of the zoo, told public broadcaster WDR.

Department store chain Real said that it would stop selling the lanterns, which are still permitted in the northern, coastal region of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Better comparison for deaths is deaths per million of population

    Following gleaned from Coronavirusworldometer

Deaths per million is the column to look at ...this is the true barometer of how effective Governments have been in preventing the spread. No government spin master will mention this they would much prefer to direct your attention to testing and how they are according to themselves almost world class

Take a look at the countries and compare the suite of measures they have used to combat the virus ... dare I say masks, transparency on hot spot locations, effective contact tracing , border restrictions, quarantine measures for visitors spring to mind. Would also be interesting to get any information on how good their health system is

    https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

    Sweden 86
    USA 54
    Ireland 58
    UK 50
    Italy 312
    France 202
    Spain 342
    Germany 32
    Holland 147
    Israel 11
    Poland 5

    China 2
    New Zealand 0.4
    Singapore 1
    South Korea 4
    Taiwan 0.3
    Hong Kong 0.5

Besides the point that you have some incorrect data, not all are comparable as they, like the UK, only count hospital deaths along with other creative accounting.

    Where?
    I live in West Dublin.
Nothing mad here.... people cutting their grass what big odds if they have a BBQ and some music out the back.....no big deal.

Same. Just been for a walk in my part of West Dublin and it's pretty quiet apart from the odd few walkers and joggers. Can definitely smell a few BBQs but as long as it's just the family that's ok. Saw two guards on bikes going around the place.

    What will happen to.the occupants??

Would we not be better with isolation centers and isolate everybody with symptoms? I'd preferably like everybody to be tested and all positives isolated but the HSE thinks differently.
well thats what city west if for... but they don't want to do it wholesale

I read up there on the lantern thing and yeah it looks like it is not a good idea. So won't release any. The add on rte just a few minutes ago clearly showed Chinese lanterns being released for this thing tonight though

There are 20150 hospitalised cases currently in the UK accoding to Pritti Patel.
That would indicate total cases of about 88000, based on 23% requiring hospitalisation (which is percentage here)
Thats only about 10000 more cases than currently reported.
That's good news as the fear is the true number if cases could be multiples of reported cases.

Should take their details, car reg etc, and tell them if not in the home on some random day next week, the €2,500 fine will be issued and o/r 6 months in jail.

In reality not sure what will happen

Why would this be a fear? True cases being multiples higher is the best we can hope for right now, it would mean the rate of hospitalisation / ICU / deaths is lower. There's no way they've captured most of their cases, we already know that a lot of people are asymptomatic so unlikely to have been tested.

    Exhibit A

This is why the lack down is here to stay.

Are people supposed to stay imprisoned inside their homes and not even go into their own gardens with their own household members? No. They aren't. Stop being ridiculous.

I know of a family where the wife and child are in the summer home because the father is on the frontline and they’re isolating from eachother since March to protect the child with asthma.
Don’t see an issue with this as they’re not going back and forth to the houses.

Obviously the people who take their families on a mini holiday to their holiday home and go back and forth between main house and holiday home isn’t necessary.

The one a family member of mine is in has been closed to visitors since March 6th, that's a full week before the first restrictions came into place, so they were closed off weeks ago.
