Yeah it seems to be a red herring. Vast majority of ferry traffic are trucks keeping our grocery stores stocked up.

Not disputing this but what are Irish people who live in the UK doing getting on a ferry?

there has to be a move on to the next step in getting back to normal, I don't mean no restrictions I just mean a transition to whatever the new normal is.

Genuine question - how on Earth can you tell the registration of all those cars whose number plates are not visible due to being hidden by the vehicle in front?

Those draconian restrictions took place in a single city (Wuhan). Everyone else in China outside Hubei province was free to go about their daily business.

I must be missing something. There are 4 images in that article. This 1 of only 2 showing vehicles.

No matter how hard I try I cannot read the reg on the campervan, the white car behind the blue Irish reg car, or the car with the roofbox behind the UK reg Audi.

Let’s all agree that deaths per million is surely a figure we can agree that is comparable
Using that figure we are not doing well in comparison to the majority of countries
If we can’t use this stat then we can not trust any stats

And if that is the case then it’s time to open up

Why would that stat being unreliable mean it is time to open up? What we have is a lower bound for each country. We know it is a lower bound so why would we open up if the lower bound suggests that we shouldn't open up.

Yes every country has a massive backlog in tests. Many are just focusing on in hospital deaths. Random deaths in New York have increased 4 fold in recent times. Most of them will be due to Covid. However without confirmation none of them get counted in their stats. And I reckon it is the same the world over.

It is awkward to compare countries without massive differences but we have enough info to not open up.

Testing figures can give a comparison as to how much of a lower bound it is but even the best estimates are lower bounds right now.

    From Guardian feed @14.28
Spain lifting some restrictions on non-essential workers returning to work

The Spanish government has announced plans to hand out face masks to people at metro and train stations from Monday as some non-essential workers begin returning to their jobs at the end of the country’s two-week freeze on all non-vital economic activity.

Factory and construction workers are set to start back next week despite warnings that the relaxation of the strict confinement policy could drive a rise in contagion.

Just reading on Cork Safety alerts that parts of Mallow hospital are closer to the public and have been for over a week. Must be an outbreak there as well.

In february hospitals where designated for receiving covid patients pretty much evey hospital was on that list. Included one I know that didnt even have a cardioligist or respiratory specialist. Probably why they need the private ones onboard too. list online think hspc wesite.

    Also from the Guardian

" NHS England has announced 866 new deaths of people who tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 8,114.

Of the 866 new deaths announced today, 117 occurred on 9 April while 720 took place between 1 April and 8 April.

The remaining 29 deaths occurred in March, including one on March 5. "

"if you get on the wrong train, get off at the nearest station, the longer it takes you to get off, the more expensive the return trip will be."

The UK situation is getting out of control. The herd immunity policy is really being shown up for the utter stupidity that it was.

When 40,000 - 70,000 people needlessly die every year because they have no health insurance and 500,000 go bankrupt because they cannot pay their medical bills, why would mass graves in America be a particular surprise?
