What would it be worth if it had a few month's NCT?

NCT and a quick oil change and a clean up, 4-5k? They handle mileage very well.

So unless that guy is very foolish, there must be at least 2-3k worth of stuff wrong with that car.

You’d easily sink that amount into getting one of these things tidied up, especially a rough example.

Id be careful with any older sclass to be honest unless you are prepared to get your hands dirty, maybe the W221 is better built than the W222.

I bought an 18 month old W222 S350d with 11k miles on it over a year ago now, might as well be honest on here and its not good!!!

Its been back to the dealership every month since, heres a list of whats gone wrong:

    * Moisture in headlights (common fault) both units failed after a few months, would be 2500 euro a pop - both headlight assemblies and control units replaced.
    * Parking sensors all failed (moisture again in the wiring harness)
    * Front camera failure
    * Air con condenser manufacturing fault leaked gas
    * Mirror led puddle light failed on both sides
    * Touchpad failed had to be replaced.
    * One door handle led failed. Complete door lining has to come off to replace it. [video link below] 1hrs labor [dealership quote] part was 20 euro.

I've only put 11k miles on it in a year and was very careful when washing not to direct the water at the lights, camera, parking sensors etc.

Luckily all the above was covered under the 3 year UK warranty, cant see myself keeping this car with no warranty, unless I start doing some of these repairs myself which in fairness some of the above arent too difficult to do. I have the WIS software now with all the detailed instructions, brakes, air/fuel filter change, bumper/door lining removal etc. Bring it in once a year to the main dealer to keep the service history on it.

Of course internet will help too this guy has lots of good videos online:

Bit off topic lads sorry but still this has been my experience with my sclass felt I should share it. I love the car but honestly ever time I get into it its something new thats not working!!!

lads I have an S500 and was just wondering, do you reckon prices on these might actually increase slightly, rather than be depreciating? that might not be case on the 350 or the 3 diesel, but wonder if it is, on the 500

That was a bit of a downer, for sure, all these electrical niggle's. Did you check on the internet if these niggle's are common on the particular model Merc you have? Be interesting to see if you were unlucky enough to get the "monday Morning" car !!!. But for everything else, handling, comfort , economy etc, how do you find it?

Afraid everything except the air con condenser fault was heavily reported on different W222 forums (s63, s65 etc in US) as known issues, found local irish dealerships to be the worst multiple trips for a single fault - e.g. 5 separate trips to fix the touch pad, oh its a software update multiple time then finally its hardware we need to replace the part order it in etc.

Now I only deal with a dealership in Belfast, as they appear to hold more parts in stock so usually its only one trip, their service prices are a 150 230 euro cheaper than down here also.

Mechanically the car has been perfect, lovely to drive etc, economy not the best but I was prepared for that 35 - 40 mph maybe a bit more. But the road tax off set that @ 390 per year, when compared to older 3L models cant complain on that front.

Looked to trade in for a 191 Audi Q7, after the test drive couldnt bring myself to do it, i know they dont compare directly but still the comfort level in the sclass is something unique.

no, you should sell it to me for 600 quid before its completely worthless in a month :pac:

I would say, you may well get ones popping up now if patient, many wont be arsed paying extortionate tax, for it to sit in drive way or will declare it off road. Did you see the S500 with the few months tax, a few pages back in this thread? :)

even in new cars I think the radar cruise and surround cameras are essential on any barge. So helpful.

I’ve yet to see a good set of “surround cameras”.

Parking sensors definitely but the camera are more of a nuisance that a help.

    Just to keep on topic

A fine CLS a petrol out of a dealer with low KMs. With heated seats

Nice find. If my TT dies in the coming months, I'll be looking for something like that.

The 2016 on 7 series, really handy for lining up spaces with how far doors can open and stopped me grazing the wheel off a protruding drain in a kerb

Apart from cooled seats it is a typical paddy spec. Wrong colour, wrong engine, wrong dashboard wood trim, probably the old 5 speed automatic gearbox too. And it is not that well priced.

'nuff said.. I'll stick with my W212, but I do agree with you on the comfort level of the "S" Class. Pity about the problems, and I hope that you have them all sorted out now and can enjoy the car.

Heres a reasonably well spec'd CGI 350, nice colour combination, original Irish, 1 previous owner, long NCT etc.

If I was in the market this would be top of my list

I know these are based on an E Class so perhaps not strictly a barge, but IMO an exception should be made. They are still a fairly impressive and imposing car, and they don't feel like much of an E Class.

    Wow, very interesting.

Had no idea something like this was in the pipeline, could/should be a game changer.

Yes, this is much nicer. 7 speed box is deffo an improvement but that petrol engine is very thirsty. First gen CLS still my all time favourite. Those looks are ageless.

I had an 06 diesel two years ago; it was perfect. Heated and ventilated seats, airmatic, sunroof, satnav etc. Very very well spec'd for an Irish car. It met an unfortunate end in a ditch about a month later with a brother of mine at the wheel. Devastated; but some Romanian lads bought it and reckoned it was going back on the road, but I see it hasn't had an NCT since.

They are still such an impressive looking car. People think they're worth a fortune still too

It means you escaped expensive repairs as parts on these CLS are not cheap. I currently happen to own 2 CLS - 350cdi and newer model 250cdi BlueEfficiency and although I like that newer is more modern, the old one looks and drives much better. Parts are cheaper on new one strangely. Old one looks way more expensive, but new one is better suited for modern world - fuel economy is superior and cheap tax of course too. I have put the old one on sale but not even sure if I want to sell it. Gorgeous car :(

Unfortunately, it depends on 2nd hand batteries from a Tesla, so not a long term solution, unless a lot of Teslas are getting written off.

Also, the quote is from a poor source - one in which you would only believe a good portion of chips - and even then, it would need a good pinch of salt.

yeah I dont think its that viable now for the much bigger heavier stuff, but there is some company that has made a huge breakthrough with battery technology, like double the energy density than current batteries... Is it Gm that have developed it, but I believe they are going to put in into their cars soon...

Cooled seats too! Very rare on a CLS

They're not actually cooled, there are fans in the seat which blow air. It's been an option since the 99 S Class

Given the tax, I honestly can't see that shifting at anything near that price. Especially given the times we find ourselves in.

Pics aren't particularly good either. Years test is a plus. If there was a years tax it might make it shift a bit quicker.

Around 3k with some tax would be tempting
