So €5'900 purchase price ( maybe less ) and €1'450 Tax... so budget 3 years tax + purchase price, comes in a little less than €10'000. Quality motoring at those kind of figures.

Perfect maths. In theory. In practice, in this example, EIGHT previous owners. Shudder....

I wouldn't read into that - a car costing 1500 EUR per year to tax has many many owners - go figure

Eight different owners, but only two different people.
And they're probably married to each other..
    :D

I'll leave scraps like that to you so. I'd be expecting better spots than that on a thread like this.
You clearly don't mind EIGHT owners and are clearly indicating that high turnover is due to costs. God help the servicing so. I wouldn't see anything attractive in it at that price.
    Go figure...
And for the person who posted it, and the person who suggested getting it for near €5,900, it would be expected to sell for 5k max or it's not for this thread.
As another poster pointed out, this is a time for snapping up bargains, proper motors, not giving an extra Covid19 payment to a car dealer....

Fair enough. If that pans out.

50/50 chance the oil cooler is leaking on that.
Looks like a 3k motor to me TBH.

Sure, that seems a lot, the 8 owners I mean, but only 123'000 Klms driven? ( which is nothing on that 3.0 engine ) And all this is assuming that it's genuine article, yes I'd take a chance, but only after due diligence, same as any other car I'd be interested in.

All to the good,if it was reduced to €3000.:D As for the oil cooler, have they a habit of going at that kid of mileage? 76'000 miles?

That looks like a nice example and I'd say it could be bought for close enough to €2k, which is about its worth. These are getting on a bit now, and its very difficult to find a decent example. That this has only had 2 owners is a good sign though, most have had 8/9/10+ by now.

Like the S Class though its abysmally spec'd. No heated seats, not so much as a sunroof or sat nav. There is nothing on that car that you wouldn't find in a 3 series really.

Those wheels and tyres are what you want on one of these though. It will glide over every bump and dip in the road without you knowing.

Yup. That would be another good one, using the same criteria, add 3 year's worth of tax to the cost price, and away you go, maybe even better than the merc, depending on what your preferences are . Sure the specs could be better on both cars, but they are what are on offer, and neither are bad buy's INMO.

The seals aren't great from factory..... Could start leaking at a few years old. Replacement ones are a different rubber & better spec.
The oil cooler is where you'd prefer it wasn't in a V6 :pac:

Not kidding about it's location, were you??? PITA of a job. Only consolation when you go that deep is you get the chance to clean the manifolds and replace other seals. But apart from that, they are regarded as one of the best MB engines.

This is the one piece of spec that's missing that I can't do without. I can do without leather, sunroof etc. but air con and the heated seats are a must. Car is interesting if it checks out, would also be less tax than what I'm used tp paying. :o

Looking to swap cars over the summer, either another barge, or a supermini and a V6/V8 classic. That one would tick a most boxes for me.

And I agree fully on the tyres, I'd never stick low profiles on any barge. Comfort is king.

the lack of heated seats in the s class is mind blowing, that it wasnt as standard!

base spec, base engine. yet again not even heated seats, who are these mad people buying these.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,691 ✭✭✭✭Idbatterim

jesus I am glad now, that I dont buy expensive or poor value cars, imagine the 30-40k cars now on pcp etc, just sitting there, bloody expensive depreciation, and most people cant even use the thing and likely wont be able to for anothew few weeks , or will just continue working from home etc as precaution by employer

For the price that was new you'd probably get a 530 or 535 spec'd up to the eyeballs

We’ll be saying the same in 10 years when looking at a 2020 BMW 5 series that doesn’t have radar cruise control and a 2015 Golf does....

    All relative I suppose

for 300 euro brand new you could have got the front seats heated, if I was the salesman I would have just thrown them on incase the thing got traded in 3 years down the line and was unshiftable because of that highly desired omission.

even in new cars I think the radar cruise and surround cameras are essential on any barge. So helpful.

I bet its rough as f*ck , those cars are worth almost twice that in parts. you'd sell the engine and gearbox for that on a good day.

Buyer will be lucky owner #16!

Tyre pressure warnings on E66s and S Classes are always a PITA in my experience

shows its in no way cared for in my experience

if you had a specialist they'd code it out for you
a decent tyre place or the dealer might pressure you to get new sensors (pun intended)

if that error is on it generally means nobody has looked at that car in a while.

I’d still love one, that one is dog rough and it’s not a LWB either.

At that price it could be well worth a look. 2k or less would take it. NCT is out since July 2019 so that rules out any sane buyer.
Tyre pressure might just need a reset from sitting up. The materials in these are good and a good detail, leather clean and paint correction could transform that car. Engine isn't the worst but turbo flaps could be a time bomb and definitely the oil seals, gearbox is fairly solid. If all is mechanically sound then its a lot of car for the money.

What would it be worth if it had a few month's NCT?
