if I knew how much the 8 series would surge in value, from the pittance they were going for, I would have bought a few of them a few years ago! the 4L engine I have read, has some reliability issues though and the bhp is quite poor for 4L

The M62 has a few issues, but on the whole is a very reliable engine if looked after. I'd have no qualms about owning and running one.

Not sure if this is a Luxobarge.Nice looking car. BMW 525i touring with NCT Sept 2020. €1,150.

It was the M60 in the 8-series. Still, those engines, unless it was one of the early ones, were pretty much bullet proof. My '95 E38 has the same engine.

I'd say that Legend still needs about a grand shaved off the price

I hope I don't die before owning a proper luxobarge

I want a 4.2 litre XJ8. With the proper old Jaguar looks. At the right price !

The M60 (4.0 litre 840i) had problems with Nikasil, although you'd imagine that any engine that's made it this far doesn't have the problem.

The M62 (4.4 litre 840Ci) has a problem with the timing chain guides, a very expensive thing to put right if it goes. It's very reliable apart from that though.

08 Legend with NCT til August, and a few days tax for €1950

Looks quite decent in the pictures. Of the 3 on DoneDeal at the minute, this is the only example that is reasonably priced, it still needs to be a tad cheaper though!

I'd love to know who bought these Legends new. They didn't get ugly with age, they were ugly to begin with!
Think of what else you could have got for that money day 1.

    Honda dealers.

If they cannot sell them, they register them and sell at a discount.

My father bought one new in 1999. Ronnie Drew bought one at the same time too. He says it was IR£70k at the time, an LS400 was 85. Stuff like S Classes etc were 100+.

Two years previous both he (my father) and Chris de Burgh bought the very first pair of new model Audi A6s in the country too.

Bit of O’Smiley family trivia there!

I bought a cabriolet a few years back and, as you do, went topless. So did Rosanna.

    😄

Some time after that Ronnie Drew sold that Legend and bought a Saab 9-3, I'm not sure if he had a car in between.

I own that Saab today. ;)

Was the wife or the nanny in it?!

Saw a 1991 Honda Legend today on a garage back lot.
Immaculate. Garage man says it's not for sale, but I'm hoping to wear him down... :D

I don't think they're ugly per se. They just look like bloated Accords. I wouldn't mind having one if the price was right. The price isn't right just yet. :)

I get it, each to their own!
To me (and my peculiar ways), a Luxobarge has to be German!

I always presumed the bulk of those oddball range toppers on otherwise pedestrian brands went to dealer principals and sales managers in dealerships, just so they'd have one available if any rich headbanger fancied a test drive.

I like that. Ronnie Drew bought a Legend...because he was a Legend. He must have had Gay Byrne's financial advisor to buy it new though.

I have an article in a magazine* somewhere, it's an interview with Ronnie Drew and they talk about his cars. He always drove an automatic. Why?

Back in the 70's, the Dubliners would be on the beer. Barney McKenna and Luke Kelly would steal the keys to Ronnie Drew's car and head off on a bit of a road trip. One night Ronnie had borrowed his managers car, which was an auto. The lads duly stole the keys, but showed up a few minutes later as they couldn't work out how to drive the auto. So the next car Ronnie ordered was an auto and he drove one from that day on.

    * It was a magazine with interviews of Irish celebs, still have it somewhere in the attic. Ronnie Drew had a Nissan Maxima at the time, also interviews with Dermot Morgan (Citroen CX) and Eamonn Andrews (pair of W108's) amongst others.

It was Car Driver. I’m sure I have a copy of that one too. From memory Dermot Morgan’s was a very descriptive ad for the CX that he was selling

I love s classes in general but not a fan of the interior on that one. Also is it just me or does the suspension seem to be very high on that. Massive gap between the wheel and arch considering it’s on 19s

It could just have the adjustable air suspension which was an option on them back then.

Terrible spec on that S Class, doesn't even have so much as heated seats!
