Spain made the same conclusion a week ago and all the media picked up on was shoddy Chinese workmanship.

I don't know if these are indigenous tests or foreign produced. Either way we aren't really at the point where people should be able to make a test that is cheap, easy to process and accurate.

For those that think mild is meh ...

Even the 'mild' cases are detailed as potentially developing pneumonia

And may deleveop other organ damage

    That's no joke ....

What part of mild don't you understand ??

If They develop pneumonia or have organ damage it stops being a mild case

I've read that at this stage its much more a logistical problem than with resources, funding etc.. will try to get my source or perhaps someone can correct or corroborate.

Reading back over the last few pages I see some posts where people are talking about the PPE shipments from China not being fit for purpose. But I can't see anything online about this. Is this true or just a rumour?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,613 ✭✭✭Hamsterchops

I heard as much in the radio yesterday, sounds like the shipment wasn't as expected.

Typical fkn government ****- got 203 euro payment when I should have got 350 for having to self isolate due to possible Covid-19 symptoms.

Raging here and gone from calm to stressed- not helping the asthma that I have developed because of the infection I had. Fkn tossers

This is how the nurses doctors etc treat patients in China. It’s completely sealed suits. I assumed this was how Irish nurses and doctors were kitted out when treating Covid19 patients until I saw footage or maybe it’s old footage ?

    Highly unlikely, that's specialised equipment.

th care workers - full face covering mask with cartridges. I believe the Italians have had no health worker infections after suiting up to airborne protocol standards.

In that one specific hospital where they had all the equipment ready because it's specialised in infectious diseases.

Someone shared a video here the other day of a hospital in Southern Italy, the corridor was partitioned( different categories of patients at either side ) with yellow tape and the security officer manning it had a gun in his pocket.., inside a hospital!

Not that unusual, over there. Most security officers (and most definitely almost all types of police branches carry guns.

I’ve noticed that we aren’t doing this on the footage I’ve seen. In China the healthcare workers are COMPLETELY covered. They look like they are going into a clean room and they must work 6 hour shifts straight with no toilet break etc. They can’t eat or drink for this time either. The PPE is so robust that some nurses need oxygen after the 6 hour shift.

Our workers look very exposed in the face shields etc I’ve seen footage of. Hair exposed, neck exposed, under chin, ears etc. I would have thought they need complete coverage to protect themselves. Like ‘spacesuit’ PPE

Like I said, that is certainly not the norm. That was ONE specific hospital specialised in dealing solely with infectious diseases (e.g. TB, HIV, MRSA, and a rake of others). Another such hospital is in Rome, and a few other wards are scattered around Italy, but they wouldn't have been able to deal with something of this scale on their own, that's also why patients ended up in "normal" ICUs where the PPE wasn't as specialised. These infectious hospitals already had that type of PPE ready and the procedures well tested because that's what they have to deal with on a daily basis. Using all that equipment needs specific training with refresher courses every six months or so. Other hospitals didn't, there's been a shortage of other, generic PPE, too, that's why you see videos of doctors, nurses and hospital workers BEGGING for help. There have been cases of doctors catching this and dying because they had to work without gloves as there were none left.

The US has 7 times the population of Spain. It's hardly shocking. How do the deaths per million compare?

The fear and death mongering on here, especially when it comes to the US, is really depressing. Almost like some people are willing it to happen. Like, why be dicks? We're all in the same boat.

Time for a break from here I think.

Sure it was the same kind of talk about the U.K. Some folks on here are divorced from reality. Plenty of Irish people in both countries as well.

Its undoubtedly higher..... But is anyone actually claiming otherwise?
The can only confirm cases they test, they can only test so much, and the labs can only process so much.

If testing and processing increases then obviously new cases will increase, but does that actually effect anything?

Here's that Google Mobility report on 131 countries.
Challenges in keeping people apart have been underscored by data released by Google for 131 countries showing whether the number of visits to shops, parks and workplaces dropped in March, when many states issued stay-at-home orders to rein in the spread of coronavirus.

Peru has a new rule that men allowed out 3 days women the other 3 days nobody on Sunday.

When we go back to "normality" and because there won't be a vaccine for another year, we will have to implement similar restrictions, otherwise shops and shopping centres will be full of people. We might have to limit children from shopping centres as an example. We will still likely have to cocoon the elderly and healthcare workers and their families will still have to take extra precautions. There may have to be a special day for them to do their shopping.

The government needs to work on a post lockdown plan.

Lockdown to go to end of the month today I heard. Must be due to fear of people breaking rules this weekend if the sun comes out.

Not sure how well that would go down.

Do you honestly reckon the weather has anything to do with the lockdown not finishing after a fortnight?

    Interesting exceptions:
    Cyprus: Curfew from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
    Czech Rep.: visiting family allowed.
Denmark: no lockdown; Gatherings of more than 10 people banned.
Estonia: Gatherings of more than 10 people banned.
Sweden: no lockdown. Gatherings of more than 50 people banned

Not particularly no, but it always seems to be a Friday when these things extend.

Of course I don't think the lockdown would be extended because of the weather.

From the only grown-up in the UK government.
Britain’s ‘peak’ for coronavirus infections will be slightly sooner than previously thought and will be in the next few weeks, the UK’s health minster has said, but it is very very sensitive to how many people continue to follow the social distancing guidelines.
