Arguably Ruth has become its MVP to use the American sports term. Nominally the Bird family are the leads, but Ruth is that brilliant character structure of someone both ostensibly vicious, but also deeply sympathetic. Props to Julia Garner for threading that needle so well.

Absolutely not subtle. I actually cringed a bit last night where they showed the screen of the computer with a gigantic or whatever it was it said. I mean, c'mon.. Surely you can do it better than that?

And the 'shock' scenes that are obviously just a cheap way to create drama. I recall a scene where the daughter was drowning at the end of an episode where the daughter was drowning that just amounted to nothing. Or the dream scenes in Season 3

Maybe it's just the implausibility of laundering tens of millions of dollars through a tiny boat casino that's half empty most of the time, or the fact that they can magically rig slot machines that's annoying me. Not sure whether to continue with it or not, but seems a lot are enjoying it, so maybe it's just me.

Helen Pierce is brilliantly played. An absolute cúnt. No other word for it.

Episode 9 is one of the most heartbreaking episodes of TV I've watched in a while. Agree with the above, Laura Linney's frustration in that episode just felt so real.

My fave show in a long long time. Gutted to have to wait another year.

Kinda wish they released episodes weekly like Better Call Saul

The first episode is great, the finale is even better although I think it could be about 10-15 minutes shorter. From season one, episode 7 or 9 is my favourite.

Im only on S1-8 here, just started watching it because a couple of mates were raving on about it.

Im not so sure about it, some things in the show are excellent but it seems you have to suspend disbelief a fair bit such as

when Marty talked the realtor mother into giving away her life savings in the space of a 60 second scene or the whole thing with heroin being trafficked by Church on the water, etc

. Just feels the plot lines lack credibility at time.

I'll finish out S1 this weekend but what do people here say for S2 and 3, does it go up a level? And do the holey plot lines continue?

There will always be plot holes and disbelief and embellishment. If there wasn't, it wouldn't really entertain....I have issues with it....main one being that the place seems a little too on its own and disconnected from everywhere. Law and order a bit too wrapped up to favor the show...I know, FBI are involved, but that's just a token involvement. Similar to Breaking Bad in this regard. Cops a little too hidden.

Stick with it. Season 2 and 3 are very good.

I have not felt a pain in my soul watching any performance since Stephen Graham in The Virutes last year. That changed last night, probably the most gut punching portrayal of mental illness I've ever seen. The only one I can think of that came close was Peter Greene in the movie Clean,Shaven. Tom Pelphrey had me going from annoyance at him to being virtually in tears, a monumental turn from him.

My favourite season so far, fcuking loving it and dying for more.

Just finished it tonight, and have to say Jason Bateman is phoning it in. He acts exactly the same way, all the time. Lot of slow talking , looking pensive. Doesn't even have to try.

Wasn't a great series for me, not sure I'll stick with it in series4.

Always felt that was and is Marty's role in the whole piece. He is pragmatic and analytical to a fault, every decision he makes has a mathematical foundation, its calculated, it's cold, and it's all for the good (as best as he can figure) of his family. I love how Bateman plays it.

Darlene and Wyatt... Feels like they just had a couple of characters they didn't know what to do with.

The Sopranos could have the same thing leveled at them with Richie Apprile. With a modest sized cast you have to keep things ticking over. I do somewhat agree with your last point, a bit random, at least to have it develop so quickly.

Netflix better renew it after that ending.
