    I work in another county all week and normally go home on Friday but this week had to stay here last night so am not at home now.

    My wife is home alone but is fine and well. Could I make the trip home today to be with her do you think? It's 200km away, am in my own car?

    You would think that the updated list on gov.ie would give us some clue (workplaces) as to what’s happening outside of retail...

    Is it just ‘essential’ retail that will operate? Nothing else.

    Or is a list of manufacturers/other services to follow...

    Because it ain’t clear, either way!!!

    I'm sorry to hear that Ireland insists on following Italy's example and go with the Soft Lockdown.
    Isn't this the 3rd major announcement of containment measures within a week or 2?

    Every successive measure is an admission the previous restrictions failed to flatten the curve.

    Who the hell writes these leaflets, they clearly don't comprehend difference between retailers and service providers, one section refers to Retailers who provide electrical, IT services, call outs. We are an electrical contractor who provide services only, not retail of any sort. We are on the OPW list, we also provide electrical services for Petroleum outlets, so presumanly we can still provide these as we would be expected to contractually. However our site works are more than likely closed . I understand that it is all being rushed under the circumstances but still for clarity they should have clearly distinguished between retailers and service providers its not like Revenue don't ???

    If it were me... I’d be on the road now.

    The news only broke last night. Explain you were at work when it broke and this is the first chance you’ve had to move. Can’t see anyone with even half a brain turning you around.

    It's ridiculous that they held a presser to start lockdown when they were not prepared with the information they needed to issue.

    Depressing situation, I wish I could just go to bed and wake up in 2 months.

    Very pretty.


    I've been tempted to go there myself, even more tempted to go to the graveyard down by the lakeshore to the right of picture 2 to put flowers on my mother's grave for mother's day, but guess what, I didn't because public health comes first and I don't want to to risk infecting anyone else.


    There are houses behind some of those hedges, there are nursing homes in the towns at the end of that snowy road (and the Lodge, with the most vulnerable). I know people who work there and I fear for their health, mental and physical. I live in the other direction, and know of three people with positive diagnoses.


    Don't be a prat. The Graves, and the townland named for a Bronze Age plague burial, will still be there when all this is over.


    2 km is plenty - those of us lucky enough to live near beauty, or to have gardens, should be grateful and humble.

    Was listening to an ICU manager in Holland and he said that every single one in critical care and on the ventilator because of covid was overweight and or obese

    My apologies - The 2km ‘thing’ is just a coincidental reference - I know it’s not a measurement limiting my travel to work or shops. it just so happens that I’m exactly 2km front door to work, so feel more relaxed about travel, as I’m not far from my family. Cool the jets...

    And as for taking to my manager - i shouldn’t have to!

    It should be perfectly clear (on gov.ie) if this list is finite, subject to change or more info is coming... instead of a heap of contradictory info.

    I’m all for the ‘lockdown’. The communication is poor and people are confused/unsure.

    My point was that it is the manager's job to find out/apply for an exemption and let you know.

    Intel isn't closing apparently. It's manufacturing sites are regarded as an essential service. Now the cynic in me says isn't it amazing how we have involved that we are now as dependent on PC chips as we are on food for survival.
