dont you know, anything people enjoy is not allowed, no running, no drinking etc

That is the way some people on here want things, if they dont like it then no one can do it and they seem to take a weird enjoyment out of this.

im still going for as long a run as i want btw.

You can run all the distance you want as long as you stay within 2Km of your home thanks

Whatever happened to 'power walking' .....you know the type arms swinging like a sasquatch, seems to have gone out of fashion

Last time I met one of those, she hit me with those arms when she passed by.. hard to follow physical distancing rules while you're swinging about.

What's the theory behind it? Why are they more at risk?

If there's a medical / scientific reason then fair enough

It'd be racist, sectarian , xenophobic, and 57 varieties of isms and phobias if you didn't humour them boss.

One word: Responsibility. This isn't about how to get away with flouting the restrictions, it's about doing what's necessary to prevent the unnecessary deaths of your fellow citizens. Grow up!

Eh what? For what it’s worth I haven’t left my house apart from the odd isolated walk in over a week and my past posts with attest to that. I’m wondering who will actually be monitoring this, for those who do not respect the measures. Calm your tits ffs

You're trying to make it seem like those in charge had everything under control! The facts are they have been behind on every decision they have made. They have been reacting to things happening instead of being proactive. We're high up the leaderboard of total deaths from this and it's not a leaderboard you want to be on.

We can only hope that this doesn't cost too many lives, that's all we'releft with now.

I'm not sure I fully agree, a lot of the measures that have been introduced would be impossible to enforce without buy in from the public.
I can speak for my own personal journey where I went from a few pints in a quiet pub is grand to I will gladly not go to the beach this weekend.
That is in the space of a fortnight. I think the vast majority of Irish people have accepted each phase as necessary and proportionate and therefore very good adherence as a result and more importantly over the coming weeks.

One thing that has become clear is the attitude of some of my colleagues. I'm working in the public sector in an "essential service". It's a very small close-knit team (so I thought). Yesterday we received notice of significant changes to our hours and work patterns. My attitude is fine, roll the sleeves up and get on with things, this is an emergency and I want to help. I feel that I'm lucky to have a job seeing all the unfortunate people laid off. Anyway, I contact some of my "team" to inform them of the changes and unfortunately from a few of them it's all "me, me, me". I'm shocked and disgusted. And before people trot out the typical "civil servant" line, two of these people have come from the private sector.

You all know they're not trying to stop the virus but rather slow it down, right? Anything you can do to slow it down, do it.
Look after yourself and your basic needs, don't think for a second anyone is taking that away from you.

They said the guards will have "high visibility". I've seen them patrolling in areas they don't usually patrol in the last few weeks.

Most is fine to be honest.

Because that isn't what was said, simple, read the press release, properly this time. What if you don't have a shop within 2km of where you live?

If they say stay at home except to do essential shopping or pharmacy visits and you can only go for a walk near where you live, it would be pure eejitry for people to think they can go on a 10 or 20 mile spin in the car to do the shopping. At that rate you could drive from Limerick to Galway to do your shopping and claim when stopped by Gardai : "Nobody told me not to".

They tend to live in large close-knit multigenerational family groups and in clusters (halting sites) so the chances of community spread are probably greater.

Applies to apartment blocks in any city or town in Ireland.

I think you miss my point. My run will now be on busy paths where distancing is impossible, whereas up until today it has been me in isolation. So in my specific case I am now more at risk of spreading the virus. I’m not going to not run (as I am allowed to do, despite your ‘stay at home’ protestations)

Jaysus, just use your common sense. If your driving to a mountain or something or have a specific path or a farm with no one around your okay.

That's pretty much the system in France.
If you don't have a printer a hand written note will do.
