Russia is using this as a time to excerpt its power. Russian military planes flying into Irish airspace. Russian warships intercepted in the North Sea.
Please put into context, Irish controlled airspace is not Irish sovereign airspace, the Russian warships have been passing through the North Sea since at least 1907.

Alarmist reports emanating from UK ministeries jockeying for budget allocations are just that. I'm sure in Russia some ministry is using that UK reaction to seek an increased allocation.

This coat-trailing, by all parties, has being going on since the start of the original Cold War.

All western countries have these great plans and hope

Its all bull****, the minute you go down you sink

Doctors get it nurses get it, it's nearly over for the irish already and before it even started
No one has the clue how bad things are gonna get in Italy

Thats is right, the governments have not been telling us the truth. There is basically nothing they can do but let this virus go through us all (herd immunisation) which is what all the governments are doing.

Have bars and shops reopened in Wuhan yet?

No, there is still a lockdown in place. China lies but it can't hide the practical consequences.

They'll say everything is normal and look at all these foreigners bringing in this virus.

    The country should be sanctioned.

Everytime some no mark recounts that it becomes an increasingly pointless cheap retort taken out of ever greater context. Now hush yourself.

Was just saying the stupidest thing I read about the virus thought you mighta seen it aswell.

With all ICU beds being nearly taken will the death count in Ireland accelerate?

It will slow, if the ICU beds are full then patients will have to wait until one frees up before they get into it...

Really wonder if they’re faking the numbers when I hear form a nurse who works at a hospital that they’re underreporting.

And how on earth would a nurse that works at a hospital know that?

(Speaking as a nurse that works in a hospital myself.)

Its nowhere near all the ICU beds been taken yet. 59 to date. Seems that doesn't exclude people who have been release home or unfortunaly passed away. So there's still plenty of ICU beds.

But they could be full in a matter of days. Not saying they will be for sure, but it's a concern, why else would Leo say it?

For those who may not have seen him, and for a little humorous but very intelligent comment I recommend a look at Seth Meyers late show on NBC (via YouTube). He talks about Trump a bit, and the comments section is entertainment in itself. All very civilised.

I know everyone's tastes are different, but I enjoy it. Given that most of us are stuck inside of an evening, it's worth a shot.

But it does illustrate that the 2 metre social distancing mantra is more of a pragmatic concession to what is possible rather than a scientifically accurate guideline. That is what I mainly get from it. The randomness of immune systems is another thing.

    What is CCP?

Chinese Communist Party - an American neo-con trope which isn't accurate.

It's real name is the CPC - Communist Party of China

This type of post is not helpful nor accurate.

The government has requisitioned all private hospitals and their ventilators, and has hundreds on order from Medtronic in Galway who have shifts working 24/7 to cater to the demand.

So far we have created hundreds of new ICU beds and to today only 47 people in them.

Those people will begin to recover and new ventilators will come into the system over the next number of weeks.

Creating panic where it’s not necessary is so irresponsible.

    Hold on a sec.
    can we get this straight.
How many icu beds have we got? Varadkar was on tv saying we are close to being overwhelmed in icu departments, Ivan Yates had an icu doc on saying we haven’t enough beds and we’re close to capacity, yet people on here are saying we’ve nearly 600 icu beds if we need them and we’ve loads of capacity.
    Which one is it?

I dunno S. There's a few of these anecdotal reports and none are backed up by proper science yet. The initial study's results haven't been replicated in subsequent ones. Take yer man in the vid. He gets sick(sounds like he was sick already for a while?), goes to hospital they no doubt give him O2 and hydration and other supports, he doesn't end up in ECU. Sure they give him these drugs, but listen when he says he had a fever of 102 and it took four days for it to break. I dunno, I'd expect drugs with any sort of efficacy to show results more quickly than that. If it were treatable bacterial pneumonia it would with a dose of IV antibiotics. 12 hours would tell if they were working or not. He sounds like one of those who gets serious enough to need hospitalisation, but who will recover without ICU, but with some medical support, who now is understandably beyond thankful and relieved and reckons it's these "miracle drugs".

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

Fox News pushing a dangerous narrative in support of Trump. Nothing new here.

That's a really ****ing dangerous narrative. Plenty of people rely on those drugs for proven therapies. This sort of unproven hyperbole will leave patients unable to source their regular medicines. :(

We have loads extra now because the private hospitals have been taken over.

    Think 150 beds normally.

    But loads more now.

I think things are ramping up and our resources are going to be stretched. But Leo has to be alarmest. He said 15k cases before the end of the month then 6k cases. Itl probably be less than 3k. I'm not saying things aren't going to be bad but he has a duty to give worst case scenario. Obviously if we get to 5k cases and 10% require ICU then we will be under pressure.
