as well as his amazing command of the details , which by itself is impressive enough, i have to say , it's the "Nu Yawk" accent that really does it for me ( and possibly many Americans).. no nonsense, get things done, "GoodFellas" , "Serpico", Robert De Niro - all sorts of cultural references seem to trigger when you hear Cuomo doing his press briefings.

And I honestly don't think its fake - it's damn obvious he loves his native "Nu Yawk" with a passion. And it really shows.

His brother is an anchor on CNN and doesn't appear to have the same "nu yawk" accent.

Building site closures I would guess - lot of work going on where i am and always hanging around the paths so you cannot stay away from them unless you take your chances on the road

From the tone in this forum, I think we'll self police

That's pretty much what the Brits are doing - the whole "policing by consent" stuff.

Sure there's a few outliers who are acting the bollocks, but it's very rare.

Said it weeks ago this will see the beginning of the end of the CCP and I stand by that

They've lied about everything from the get go of this crisis be it attempting to surpres the extent of the emergency or the frankly laughable death toll numbers they spoon fed the world.

    What is CCP?

i dunno - Nu Yawk has a certain position within the American mythos because of 9/11. Look - either way - Cuomo has been damn impressive with his command of the brief. He's got extremely good leadership qualities. And that's undeniable.

New York is the worst hit city. Perhaps hold off the praise just a tad.

Reading this thread is an education which is quite depressing. So many fools posting bar room interpretations of events that have yet to occur.

Worst I saw was someone advocating to actually gather groups together to get the virus over with so things can go back to normal quick. Remember that Harry?

Completely disagree. A certain % of the population are behaving exactly as they would be if they were in a full on lockdown.
I'm not sure how many that is but I know plenty of people who are at home, with only one household member leaving the house once per week to buy the essentials.

Agree. At least, that's us and our friends and family.

I thought someone said earlier 400ish in hospital. Thats 20% of known cases, hardly a small minority?

anecdotal but these are being used in NYC, if their death rate peaks and levels off from here, must be driving factor given the increase in cases

My wife redeployed within HSE today to a swab centre, starting next week. We knew it would probably come, but it's real now. It should be a controlled environment at least. I really feel for staff at hospitals and their families.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who went to Cheltenham or took their skiing holidays post February, et al. You are special kinds of Oirish, and no mistake. The best kind. I hope ye had your craic, because that's all that matters.

I got confirmation yesterday that I am to be redeployed to swabbing also, but haven't got a date just yet. Was feeling a bit under the weather yesterday, it was just stress from it all as I had time to process it and feel fine today. When I read the email, I burst into tears, it was scary.

I work as a psychologist. I'm under frequent high pressure to complete assessments, manage waiting lists etc. Any progress made is in tatters now, clients will wait so much longer until I can do face to face work again. Trying to support lots of people by phone at the moment, just ringing, letting them know I'm thinking of them, chatting about the day if needed, offering advice and support to keep them well. The reality of being redeployed will mean it will be a shift at the test centre & then come home to manage my caseload remotely as I'll still have a duty of care to both. It will be a tough few weeks and I'll need to be very careful not to burn out, as there is not much of a choice.

Its nowhere near all the ICU beds been taken yet. 59 to date. Seems that doesn't exclude people who have been release home or unfortunaly passed away. So there's still plenty of ICU beds.

Everytime some no mark recounts that it becomes an increasingly pointless cheap retort taken out of ever greater context. Now hush yourself pjohnson, hush yourself.
