Does anyone think that things may never be the same again in the world when this is all over?

Yes they were. The Chinese aren't dumb enough to let people into the community from hotspot zones without being tested and quarantined immediately on arrival.

The rapid testing kits China provided to Spain seem to have only 30% accuracy (whatever that means), so I'm not sure how much stock I'd put in their local testing, or what that means for their level of "dumbness". I certainly don't expect they'll be transparent about the matter.

I heard an interesting point by someone on the radio there, didn’t catch his name. When it is assumed that a person who has died had “no underlying conditions” this isn’t always something that’s known previously by the medical team. The person who died could have been homeless, or someone who lived alone for years and wasn’t engaging with any healthcare. Usually they state when the person has underlying issues, but the lack of that statement doesn’t mean they didn’t. Just that they don’t know.

Has anyone read anything informative (I am aware we are all constantly learning and nothing can be actually definitive) on how long you can test positive after you've contracted it?

I am going for a test tomorrow as I found out yesterday that I had been in close contact, repeatedly, with someone in the workplace. It was a very delayed notification. I was last in contact the day work closed on the 12th. I have been sick but putting it down to my ongoing dose - but on the 17th, 5 days after my last exposure when this person had the virus, it flared up. Have had all the symptoms listed, and have been isolating since the 12th anyway.

It took until yesterday to be informed that this person had the virus when we were still working together. It has been 15 days since I was last exposed, and 10 days since the symptoms I had got worse (swollen throat, very short fever, headaches and an ongoing dry/croupy cough).

I am thinking that while I am left only with the dry/barking cough and mild sore throat, there is a good chance the test will be negative, virus will have left my system as i've had the symptoms so long?

(as said above, we have been good as isolating in any case).

Depends what you mean by the same.

I’d worry we learn little from this and within a few years we are back at the same lazy , ignorant, self absorbed society we all know and love.

For a species that thinks a lot of itself , we have a fantastic capacity to ignore the past And our potential future so we can enjoy the present.

You would like to think so,
But people easily forget and go back to what is the norm for them.
    It's just human nature.

I'm thinking regarding border security and the way we interact with each other. Seems to be a general mistrust of others at the moment in work and when I'm out getting shopping.

1,049 new cases in Belguim and 69 new deaths. I think that's the highest for them so far in a day.

That's very high. They really are exposed at the centre of Europe and also with the EU HQ there. And like the Netherlands its a highly urbanised society. Almost entirely motorways there I believe.

Ridiculous esp as she is dealing with older people..

What would gloves do in this case. If her hands are clean then there is no issue.

People seem to think gloves will just stop the virus in it't tracks.

You should be more worried about the cash you're giving your Dad and also the change he receives when shopping.

Should really eliminate that risk and get pension paid into a bank account and use contactless payments.

    Contact your GP.

I would expect the virus will still be in your system when you experience symptoms.

Was just reading the same, less than 30% accuracy in comparison with 84% accuracy for a lab tests.

And Boris ordered 3.5 million of them. Seems like a wast of money to me. Who is he going to assure with <30% accuracy test?

Yes I think people will be slightly better at washing their hands and hospitals will be better at dealing with pandemics. Many economies will struggle with the aftermath but things will normalise before the next world impacting event.

As I understand it is that out of 10 infected patients only 3 will show up as infected meaning each false negative would require multiple tests to confirm. Basically a positive is 100% sure however a negative wouldn't necessarily mean that you are virus free.

I hope so...and for the better.
If everyone doesn't learn from this then there is little hope for us :o

I think the people that took this outbreak seriously will change their ways and the other members of our society that didn't will just go back to living their entitled existence

Well if you come out as positive then at least you know you have it but a negative means nothing.

Any one else getting paranoid due to this ,

Yesterday I was feeding my youngest in the kitchen and all of a sudden I got what I can only describe as bizarre feeling in one of my lungs, it was like a wheezing for about 30-40 seconds, the it disappeared , never felt anything like it before or since made paranoid as **** , I had a slight runny nose the last few mornings but nothing out of the unusual ,
Last night I done 10k on the treadmill at home and felt absolutely fine so im guessing it was just one of those weird things that happen out of the blue ,

Is the mass on RTE News Now a repeat? It seems almost identical to all the other days.

Exactly. Even if she sanitised and changed gloves in front of you, you're obviously going to treat the money as dirty regardless.

I'm not aware of a definitive source, as there's so much new research being published constantly, but the generally accepted position seems to be that you're contagious for 7-14 days after symptoms, assuming your condition does not become very serious, in which case it lasts longer.

The test will probably pick up viral RNA for some time after you've stopped being contagious, but I don't know how long that lasts. Depends on how long viral RNA remains intact in your nose once the capid/envelope stops being viable.

Unless one changes gloves between each customer it is the same effect as skin. A lot of people are wearing gloves, it only works if you operate a strict clean dirty system with each new zone considered contaminated. Otherwise it works to discourage face touching. I use gloves for petrol pump, on and discard immediately after use. And for shopping, on going in and discard after out.

And on the travel thing it was well possible to make an informed choice that whole week from 9th March onwards. I cancelled on 10th for travel on 13th, someone I know traveled on 14th, making a stubborn choice for personal pleasure in spite of info.

Not for me. As soon as this is all over I'll be back to cash.
If you could trust that everything you do wasn't being tracked and used I'd have no problem with a cashless society but that'll never be the case.

OK beginning to understand the trump love now.
