    Hows that?

The human body averages around 37.5degrees does it be hotter than that here in the summer months?

Or would the uv rays be the killer?

    The UV

My granny is 97 and thankfully she's not really aware of what's going on. She's been saying she's ready to go for years and I'd love if she just went peacefully too. I'd hate for her to have healthcare workers in hazmat suits treating her, it'd frighten the life out of her.

My partners stepmam died peacefully 3 weeks ago. She was in a care home, they said she just passed looking out the window.

I felt it was the right time for her to go. She would have struggled with this.

Oh god yeah F surface transmission is a huge part of it, hence the wash your hands thing and sterilise objects you touch, but on road surfaces made of bitumen and the like exposed to the UV of the sun, even weak sun(UV can be quite high here even in winter)? I'd bet the farm the levels of viable virus on the streets and footpaths of Ireland are bloody low to the point of negligible.

I do worry about fomite transmission, and also think it's being disregarded.

Re the disinfecting streets...it's the why I'm wondering about. Can understand hand level stuff...rails, statues, benches etc but the actual pavement, tarmac, grass...like you say I'm sure the levels are low...could it be more than optics?

How many tests have now been conducted in Ireland?

1st few mins of his presser he was on about his video conference with G20, went on to list of most of the people who were on the call.

Presser went downhill from there, claims US has done more testing than anyone and just general Trump waffle.

Usual stuff, saying how great they are, boats 'full to the brim' excellent, amazing, the best, the biggest at this, the best at that and how he's making great decisions, massive numbers, far bigger, very strong, all the usual adjectives he normally uses about exaggerating how great he is and what great things he is doing.

Saying how he can't wait for everyone to go back to work, when things will be normal, like it's going to happen soon moaning about other peoples numbers being incorrect, his correct, how great they are, how great they are testing so many people, tremendous, amazing.

Basically talking up everything and everyone related to him, ego trip, as usual.

The nursing homes are struggling to maintain staff in any event (the pay is terrible in most of the homes). If a lot of the staff are out sick with CV, who is looking after the residents?

    Put on CNN. It's laughable

Talk about timing, having this clown in at a time like this. Obama would have been the perfect man for this job.

Child drops dummy mother wipes it child continues to suck dummy.

Just 1 easy example how it gets picked up of the street

Yep. Gets on your shoes, which come into your house. You put down your bag, which comes into your house.

Disinfecting the streets may or may not be worth the effort and the runoff into the groundwater, but there's definitely a rationale for it. There's a surprising amount of folks ready to dismiss things just because they don't immediately see the point.

My own granny died about a year ago aged 97 too....I only thought the other day that I was glad she did, because the worry about her would be very hard on my parents and relatives, and at least we were able to say goodbye to her properly.

When was the last time you got down on you knees and licked a street?

If there was dog **** all over every path would you walk in it or expect the council to clean it up? Would you need to get down and lick that dog **** up for it to get on you?

Its a weird disconnect people have. It's invisible but it's there. We can avoid dog **** while out and about because we can see it.

I'd really like to know the answer to this. Why are some countries disinfecting roads? I understand handrails, postboxes, things on streets people touch, but roads? Dubai is currently under a strict curfew until 8am Sunday while the roads are being disinfected.

Maybe they get very little rain? But then others here are saying strong sun would kill it. It does purify water.

Actually it makes perfect sense to me. Would it not be desirable to have members of the travelling community staying in the locations they are currently in for the duration of this crisis rather than continually moving from one to another area and increasing number of interactions.

The intention may have been a good one, but they have just been given permission to move to anywhere they want now without fear of being moved on. They can come and go as they please without having to worry.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,065 ✭✭✭otnomart

We need a two fold approach. Stop the community spread and stop the flow here of new cases.

You can try to stop community spread all you like but if the pool of new cases is replenished from abroad it is absolutely the most pointless exercise and waste of time.

    Sure, but I ask again:
How many people around the World right now - either still can (= not in lockdown themselves within their own closed borders) or want to travel to Ireland ?
    Only the repatriating Irish, surely.
    And they should be quarantined.

I thought gatherings ere to be limited to 4, Is there any point on ringing the Gardai on a large group of kids out?, I'd imagine they're stretched pretty thin atm, why isn't there a curfew?

Looks like there is probably some commuter infection from Dublin happening in Wicklow

Commuting looks like a factor but hard to know without getting data for specific locations.

    Wicklow 49 cases
    Kildare 39 cases.

There are many here who disagree with you. Going for a walk or jog every day does nobody any harm if social distancing is maintained.

And it keeps the mind sane. I had a bad day of cabin fever work from home. Went for a good walk during my lunch and after and feel refreshed and happy again

We dont have much better resources that countries in Eastern Europe(Serbia, Albania, Bosnia) in terms of ICU beds. They all had a lockdown within their first 10 cases. We were way too slow. We only have about 200 ICU beds now.
    its more like 500 now
