It's reality, the 15 thousand Leo spoke about was an increase of 30% a day thankfully we are keeping below that each day and still had 1p deaths today,a Rise in deaths and ICU numbers is inevitable,

Our curve is still a bit on the steep side : in truth, they'd prefer if it was down around 10% a day (max)

I’ve a parent in a nursing home. It’s awful. I can understand why they can’t say locations, but it would be so reassuring to know it’s not our area.

To keep every one vigil and aware and following protocol.

If we were told that there is no COVID-19 in West Kerry, then half of the cities populations would be there this weekend. And not observing social distancing etc.

Christ that RTE player is a croc of sh*te. Who was that second knob jockey that asked Holohan if he had any words of condolences for the family of the deceased, literally just after Holohan had expressed his condolences!!

Not a hope of stopping this unless we ground every single commercial flight in and out of Ireland for the next month as a start.

Otherwise we could face a year long lockdown.

The virus is spreading in the community in Ireland.
Stopping flights will not stop community spread.
Many countries in the World are in lockdown and I doubt anyone (except the Irish who still have to repatriate) would want to "escape" to Ireland - as it has so few ICU beds.

10 deaths ...was not expecting that. 10 families distraught tonight. God love them . RIP.

So you know that none of the 10 who passed away today are related? Source?

I’d say the 10 today was from a care home cluster. Still find it strange that the number of deaths per diagnosed cases here is so low compared to NI and other countries..

Its not strange. We are testing at the German level rather than the UK one. The more you test the lower the %of positive cases. For some reason no one believes this.

time to stop all non essential work now I think

Too many cases in Dublin now & ICU's (49)

Hopefully stores can start delivering groceries for people

There is a sense of panic now but we are well below the predicted numbes at this moment
I know that's no comfort for the 10 who died but people need to realise this is inevitable and not panic

She spoke to GP who said if it was Corona you wouldn't be able to get out of bed...not sure if she was talking generally or in terms of mum's age group.

I would have thought your mam would get priority testing as vulnerable maybe ask GP again, I know no one likes pestering but there is no one else you can really ask, does the HSE or Dept of Health have a free phone help line for queries?

Surely they expected this infact as horrible as today is we are currently running well belwo the number they where expecting at this stage,

Let's have no illusions the very very best case scenario here is still going to leave hundreds if not thousands dead,

This ****er of a virus has only got started

It's all so far away until the people that are parts of the stats start becoming people you know.

The hse have said themselves that the surge hasn't started yet.
Already short of equipment but more is on the way we have been told. Yet doctors are making videos appealing for donations.
There are too many healthcare workers being infected also. We can't afford a drop in staff while they isolate and recover

It's from this weekend onwards that numbers should start (possibly, they may not) reflecting school closures.

I'd really like to know the answer to this. Why are some countries disinfecting roads? I understand handrails, postboxes, things on streets people touch, but roads? Dubai is currently under a strict curfew until 8am Sunday while the roads are being disinfected.

Something doesn't add up with all this disinfecting roads it almost sounds like something nuclear

Our '' lockdown'' is a joke. SO many people out and about, and even guards are walking in 3's shoulder to shoulder.

What percent of the 1819 cases are in Dublin anyone know? I assume the share in Dublin will only increase further while most of Ireland plateaus

I will certainly be lighting up one when this damned thing is over, ( accompanied by a large Jameson of course).

Some of the journalists are just so amateur. I think that was Richard Chambers.

Asking them to express condolences isn't a question.

Not a hope of stopping it ever. Slowing it is the best we can do.

    Why a year?

Because we will just import cases for the next month from countries who havent properly locked down.

A scientist in the UK said today one infected person has the potential to lead to 59,000 other infections.

You can't slow the spread without turning off the flow of new cases.

A year also because that's the soonest we'll have a vaccine and even that is optimistic.

The Chinese must be scratching their heads at our joke of a lockdown where people can come in and leave anytime they want.

People out and about does not necessarily mean any significantly greater risk of transmission between households if they maintain social distance

Dublin has 56% of the total cases as of midnight on Tuesday.

First time I get the sense within the department of health and HSE in this press conference of real concern this evening. Especially so is the numbers of those covid-19 patients in ICU's, 47 the latest figures. Dr Holohan is also concerned at the amount of cases in nursing homes and long stay settings.

Over half of confirmed covid-19 cases are now involving community transmission.

Scary times indeed and the facial expressions of those at the top table at tonight's presser is of some concern.

Far too much talk in the media about the economics of the whole thing. They needed to keep pressing pressing pressing the alarm button about the contagion aspect.
Far too much chat about what they were and weren’t doing in the UK too. It should have been no interest to us. RTE were mad keen to point and scoff at them. Stupid.

Can't come quick enough......even 16%-18% is a bit dodgy and they're clearly not comfortable with these numbers.

May be below but the ICU is filling up rapidly each day - could easily be 200 ICU bed's needed within the next 7-10 days

Interesting, though home kits tend to have higher error rates, and any test involving antibodies more so.

Not sure I'd like to hang a lockdown policy on something like that.

Its accuracy rate according to the manufacturer is 96%.

Is that the sensitivity/true positive rate or the specificity/true?

So this test looks for I guess IgG against the virus, so positive means good- you're immune already, negative means bad, you haven't been exposed. So you're not that worried about your false negative rate, as in the worst case that means an immune person stays on lockdown.

But if that number is the specificity, that means it'll miss 4% of negatives, which doesn't matter as much if you're just using it in the context where you're only testing a smaller number of suspected sick people and maintaining lockdown regardless, but if you're rolling that out to a population of 60 million, that 4% is going to add up to a whole load of muppets who now think they're immune and will go out into the world like they're bulletproof.

EDIT: Just looked into it a bit more and some the tests check IgG and some check both IgG and IgM- would really not want randomers interpreting a test like that.
