What happened in 2008? Are you talking about the financial crash of 08?

    yes.

They're talking about the Tour de France going ahead with no crowds, how do the riders practise social distancing?

Absolute rubbish. This is just the start of the surge for Ireland.

And given our piss poor lockdown that lets gangs of youths go around coughing at people it will increase hugely.

Our lockdown is a bit of a farce.

You guys really want disaster. It's the hospitalization and death statistics that matter, and they are steady enough.

    Stay at home.

That's all people had to do.

I was surprised to see a Vaping shop, a phone repair shop and an off-license open today. Are these okay?

Vaping shop - if someone is giving up smoking using vaping as their chosen method, if they can't get vape supplies - they may go back to smoking, especially considering this is a time of stress and worry and fear. I would say it is essential.

A phone repair shop - this is essential for fixing a broken phone

Off-licence - I think this would be needed for some people, to have a drink at home. One could easily get cracked at a time like this, a bottle of something or some cans might be a requirement.

i hope i'm wrong but I think we're in for a rude awakening over the next few days. our "lockdown" is one of the weakest in europe and we massively messed up our testing program and are now likely a week behind actual figures.

Lads can we stop this sh*t. People are largely abiding by the rules. Nit picking and looking at webcams seeing can we see more than 10 people together.

Once people start dying in large numbers, maybe you will change your tune.

It's good to see 22 of our elected TD's crammed into the Dail chamber for a special meeting during a public health emergency.

Our lockdown is a bit of a farce.

There have been a handful of people out of a population of 5M.

If 50 people have done this. Massively over estimating real figures I expect, it would be 0.001% of the population partaking in such behavior.

Hardly worth dramatic action on this basis is it?

Thought about it.....then heard the same kunts who were banging pots and generally being gob****es on new years eve (that one went well) , nah I'll pass

Even with your explanations, they're still not anywhere near to being essential.

Neither of these being closed is going to put your life at risk. I'll die from starvation but I won't die from not having a crate of beer. Sure there's alcohol in every supermarket to buy anyway

I had an idea, the whole PPE issue and purchasing it.

What if the likes of me wanted to donate towards purchasing ir to the cost of purchasing. In a way of giving.

Would people pay into a National GoFindMe where its used to purchase PPE

Remember Beasty used to do one at Xmas for kids hospitals etc

Would people here do similar....might be better than a round of applause

For everyone's benefit, I'll post here some comments I have made to Ninthlife and will be picking up in the Admin forum

"Just thinking about it, the main issue with PPE at present is availability. If it's available someone will buy it and the Governments are going to have first call (rightly so), and can prioritise appropriately within their own jurisdiction

What I liked about SSF was relatively small amounts can make a big difference.

Just did a quick search and there are about 100,000 HSE employees in Ireland. Trying to do something across the board is unrealistic. Equally I don't think anything we do should benefit one region over another

The Government will continue to throw money at this, and anything we can do will be a drop in the ocean

So putting my thinking cap on

Is there a discrete part of the HSE we can help?

Is there a discrete way in which we can help?

Manual help is one idea, but with contact restrictions may be impractical

Maybe there is some small thing we can do, somewhere, that can make a few people smile. As I type I'm thinking, so far with no bright lights coming on.

These people are going to be incredibly stressed over a long time. Can we help relieve that in any way? I'm not sure/ We've had nearly 3,000 people viewing the forum when the updated figures are released. Could we mobilise 500 of them? The HSE already has some volunteers, I think (the NHS in the UK has many volunteering)

Can we act as drivers, taking things from one place to another? Can we build up a fund to do something special for the HSE at the end of all this? (whenever that may be)

We have plenty of people reading and contributing to the forum. Maybe we can start a thread. What can we, as a Boards community, think of that may help. That may be at a local or national level; it may be help in logistics, or monetary help. It might just be buying HSE employees a coffee. It may be somewhere for people to make suggestions, or even ask for a little help while this is going on

I know I'm rambling, but it's a great topic in itself and I'm trying to get my points down as I think of them. I think there probably are quite a few things we can do by engaging with users, those who may be directly affected by this, and some of those on the front line

I'm going to start a discussion at Admin level, using this reply as a starting point. We've already got Dev onboard and between us all I'm sure there is some way in which we can make a difference to some, so than you very much for getting my brain ticking over on this"

A figure I read is that 80% of transmission in China was in the home.

With 25% of infection in Ireland being health care workers disease will move very quickly to the home.

PHNs, Carers and Home Help are travelling around the country visiting homes every day, with no PPE. Most likely they are/will be leaving a trail of infection behind them.

Two of biggest tools we have employed and will employ are distancing and cocooning. These fall flat in these circumstances.

Is there nothing they can do to mitigate this?

They have reduced numbers because of social distancing requirements. Same as the UK Parliament - they are doing it to set an example!!

Two thirds of Coronavirus fatalities would have died this year anyway according to a British government spokesperson.

Can I add in they've got husbands/wives and kids that they are probably rarely seeing and even less should this get worse - so maybe something to their families as a thank you...
