Am supposed to start clapping at 8 in my house alone?

Did you see footage inside those 'hospitals'

Looked like pretty modern hospitals to me. China is at least as technological as the West, these days, if not more so.

They're talking about the Tour de France going ahead with no crowds, how do the riders practise social distancing?
    profimedia-0232331913.jpg

And all the cyclists are asthmatic so high risk

is there any information available on how many people globally die from flu or pulmonary related diseases annually

when i google this i get only corona stuff...

i am just trying to put this to some perspective

Yep, its normally around 200,000 to 650,000 deaths.

Up to 650 000 people die of respiratory diseases linked to seasonal flu each year

Then occasionally you have pandemics that are much worse:

1957-1958 flu pandemic - estimated 1.1 million deaths

    1968 - estimated 1 million deaths

Every flu season saw "exponential" increases before they slowed down, trickled out and stopped.

Flu and coronavirus are very different entities in many respects.

True. The 2009 US flu pandemic is interesting all the same though. Started very late in April/May. Quietened over the Summer, but came back early in September/October. One theory linked it to the schools being off, then coming back in the Autumn. If this outbreak behaves like that, the schools need to stay shut till September at least, in order to slow it down and allow us to continue to build up our ICU capacity.

Yes, I suppose so......it's not necessarily about being seen or heard, just about doing it

People were videotaping to show the state of the places. Open sewers basically

At first blink I read that as "may you do good". Either works.

I assume it means they were taken to quarantine or arrival tested positive and kept still in quarantine till recovered

Thanks for explaining and that now makes sense. I thought the cases were appearing throughout society there.

I was surprised to see a Vaping shop, a phone repair shop and an off-license open today. Are these okay?

Lads can we stop this sh*t. People are largely abiding by the rules. Nit picking and looking at webcams seeing can we see more than 10 people together.

US now showing 11,860 cases so far today, bringing their total to 80,071.

That is 518 less than Italy, and 1,214 less than China.

Very worrying. They have literally gone up 70,874 cases in the last 8 days.

The last two are anyway. Passed an off-license today and it's just one in the shop at a time now.

Globalisation should change after this, essentials need to be produced in Europe. But will it? Its not like much changed after 2008.

Hopefully things will change after this.

What happened in 2008? Are you talking about the financial crash of 08?
