China reports 50-60 cases per day these last few days, saying all are imported. I can only imagine if Ireland would be importing 50-60 cases a day it would be impossible to stop the community infections. I think China is in denial at this stage and just waiting for a large remission.

They are all locked away in hotels with chains on the door as soon as they land and if they test positive in their quarantine period they are off to hospital.

You think they are letting people fly in and just wander around?

Interesting, though home kits tend to have higher error rates, and any test involving antibodies more so.

Not sure I'd like to hang a lockdown policy on something like that.

Its accuracy rate according to the manufacturer is 96%.

I know exactly whos paying, us, the taxpayer

    But

That money was for something else and we're going to pay it back numerous times eventually. There is no bottomless pit of money

My idea was an philantrical one whereby lets say a donation of PPE was given to X hospital on behalf of grateful Boardsies

I want to help, Im 'essential' staff in Public Service so my days are taken up working, young family etc so volunteering is difficult. But maybe I could donate... anyway just an idea

I think my 52% marginal tax rate is adequate contribution!

UK is talking about having antibody tests available in their millions very soon.

Has anyone heard any talk of them being available in Ireland? I would love to know if my mysterious but super-mild respiratory illness was Covid 19 or something else.

    Okay it was me.

Main UK adviser says they'll still have to go through a process.

Yeah it's gone to Oxford to be checked. If verified, 96% is damn good.

Does China have quarantine for arrivals? I presume they do. How are they importing cases with quarantine measures in place. I don't understand it. Can someone please throw some light upon this? It doesn't make sense.

China have/had no resources problems, they built and fully stocked 3 hospitals in 2-3 weeks.

The numbers are high in the likes of Italy because people can't be treated.

It could actually be bone fide.

Did you see footage inside those 'hospitals'

Indeed. Necessity as they say... There have been a lot of very good initiatives to come out of this worldwide. Things do look better than even a few weeks ago.

Interesting stat there that flu is seasonal in nature in temperate climates, happening mainly in the winter, but in tropical regions occurs irregularly throughout the year. So its possible CV could behave like this too. Obviously have to wait and see though.

Flu and coronavirus are very different entities in many respects.

I assume it means they were taken to quarantine or arrival tested positive and kept still in quarantine till recovered

How are Italy ever gonna come out of lockdown?

Will get there eventually. We all (Italians, Irish whoever) just need to be patient.

If the various lockdowns work I reckon late May/early June we will see restrictions start to gradually lift here, might come a bit earlier in Italy.

But only if the lockdowns work.

All eyes on China and Wuhan where the restrictions will be lifted on 8th April.

There's a general hard on here for more cases in China.

As I said before the Chinese way probably worked, if it didnt what would? The very fact that they are reporting more cases now as they lift restrictions would make sense.

It is the US figures you cant trust, and in fact they will never get full testing rolled out, probably.

There is definitely more hope. But the worst is yet to come nationally and globally.

I think this will have to change when all this blows over.

It never made sense to me buying clothes and reading the labels made in Thailand, made in Bangladesh, made in India. I definitely did my very small bit in recent years to change this with my own knitwear and focusing mainly on Irish and European yarns. I refuse to buy knitwear that will mostly come with a tag saying something like 'made in Bangladesh' when I can knit pieces myself.

Knitting is my skill. Unfortunately I don't know how to use a sewing machine for doing more.

Globalisation should change after this, essentials need to be produced in Europe. But will it? Its not like much changed after 2008.

Hopefully we wont see a rise in number. Measures put in place are draconian but needed. Lets all play our part. Lets flatten the curve ffs.

They're talking about the Tour de France going ahead with no crowds, how do the riders practise social distancing?
