It's already been used for treatment. It's just an off-label use.

    Yes, I know.

    It needs FDA approval.

UK lighting up now, next Italy in the making unfortunately. I just hope we’ve done enough to not be next, it’s like the turning of the titanic this one.... squeaky bum time and we just have to wait and see

I'm all for not dropping our guard for one moment but a week ago we were being told that we could have 15,000 cases by the last day of March, worse case scenario at this point would be less than half that, if the are now telling us a surge is due and it fails to materialise people might start to ignore further warnings.

40k+ tried to get swabbed and they changed the goal posts we really don't know how many are infected as there are only about 2k being tested a day

There's no "just" about off label use. They're a specially-monitored class of cases in pharmacovigilance, on account of the higher risks.

Aye. The consultant takes responsibility for any adverse events. An off label use would/should only be initiated by a consultant. All I'm suggesting is there is no barrier for this been initiated by a consultant. So DT is not inventing the wheel here.

No. There’s space for some humour amidst the incessant gloom

FDA approval is not needed in Ireland.

That’s the problem with these things. If they went all out at the start and it didn’t materialise, there goes future credibility.

It’s nothing compared to what they’ll be facing this time next week.

It's not appropriate for a politician to make statements like that when the data is so inconclusive. Medics are entitled to make a call, he is not.

So are we looking like we're gonna be okay overall?
I haven't seen any massive surges in our figures, thankfully! Does this mean we're probably going to be okay if we continue to maintain social distancing and stay at home unless essential?
Or does it just mean we haven't really started to see the impact yet?
It's a mental rollercoaster tbh, something's I read seem really positive. Then others are grim! I don't know what way to think or feel at all.

I heard someone ask similar... 'are we out of the woods yet?'

We've barely just entered the shadow of the trees.

Holohan showed the other night were just starting on the curve upwards.

    And it will go upwards.

Bear in mind it has a 14 day incubation period, so the lockdown results may only be seen in next few days. The current cases could well be result of activity a couple of weeks ago or more.

Up to 14 days, typically 5 or 6 days.

EMA or else HPRA approval is though.

Why don't the HSE just have their press briefing at 20:45 every day? Or am I stating the bleeding obvious?

Holohan was wrong last night. We have well flattened the curve already. Countries that had their first death the same day as us are in FAR worse shape than we are. Even NI has more deaths than us with 1/3 the population.

Exactly, we need at least some random sampling. We haven't a clue where we are at.

We really don't know that. The signs are good, but it's early days.

over 700 deaths for Italy again.

Their lockdown is not going well at all.

It could take up to 6 weeks for deaths to greatly reduce from the lockdown starting.

    They are starting to stabilise

The lockdown is starting to plateau their graph.

Although they are so far gone.

Deaths in Bergamo seem to have fallen sharply according to a chart posted a couple of pages back. Lockdown working there at least it seems. I’d say its deaths rising in other regions that are keeping up the rates.

I’d imagine they have more pressing things to tend to than giving press briefings.

I never said he was re-inventing the wheel...

He's being aggressive, to try to bring a drug mainstream that could potentially help a lot of people. I like his aggressive approach.

    Hopefully it's successful. :)

UK figures not moving as fast as Italy's.

It's still bad and will get much worse, but they aren't following the same curve as Italy in terms of deaths.

Absolute rubbish. This is just the start of the surge for Ireland.

Up to 14 days, typically 5 or 6 days.

Outliers have been observed upto 27 days.

14 is a catch all to cover the majority.

Looks like there was actually 712 deaths in Italy :(

They are massaging their figures because they know they made a monumental **** up.
