This looks very promising and hopefully it will work. Scientists in Germany are looking at the BCG vaccine. Originally its for TB. Studies on mice show it can protect against viral infections of the respiratory tract.

Fingers crossed it works. Although the BCG is not a vaccine against covid19, hopefully it will bridge a gap until a vaccine is available.

And with that bit of positive news, I bow out of this thread for the day - too much doom and gloom lads jaysys!

Here's another piece on it with a bit less technical detail.

They will be overwhelmed aswell. We were too late. Not as late as some but still too late for a country this size.

I'd be inclined to meet fire with fire. Give them a dose of their own medicine back. A bit of vigilantism wouldn't go astray to beat some of these neanderthals so badly that they won't behave like this again.

You don't have to read the thread
Should i leave so you can read on and comfort yourself

No need. Just process the information you are being given in replies to your posts, which refute your claims that we are days away from finding ourselves in the same situation as Italy.

Here's an example of how the curve is being flattened in Italy.

    Extrapolations by me.

It was. I was one of the few of my schoolmates who didn't get the three marks in my upper arm. Can't remember why exactly, but I do remember a doctor saying I didn't need it. Innate immunity? I remember a scratch test of some nature. So I'm probably fecked, or golden, depending on how optimistic I am. :D

And the UK. I had the “stapler” test, but must have had immunity already as I didn’t need the big needle (and missed out on the big lumpy scar so many people of my generation have)

I remember that back in the 80's, it was a booster as we all got a shot originally as infants.

Unlike our scumbags ( who seem hell bent on spreading the virus via "coughing" on Gardai ), in Spain, their scumbags are hell bent on stopping the spread

Some are "influencers" and in that case terrorist type laws need to be invoked, as they are encouraging something that will cause death in others ( if not the toilet lickers, people they come into contact with), and generally terrorise the population.

Macron on last night was close to tears as he told country to brace itself the big wave starting in next few days.
He knows whats coming and eventually just like Italy they'll be destroyed,
Supposing the social distancing measures slowed the numbers down to that of half Italy's numbers. It still only buys them a few days and suppose they're twice as well prepared that too only buys them another few days. Best case scenario they hold out a week or 10days longer than the Italians
Ireland is in the same position its only further out out, this time next week you'll know

People have been posting these "ominous" warnings every day for about 2 weeks at this stage. In reality it's pure scaremongering bollocks and ye haven't a clue.

I didn't say that why are you lying?

    I'll try again
I dont agree with the term "wave" which is often used
A wave implies something that will pass through and be big or small. And then we're waiting and hoping for a small wave.
Its not something that passes through like that.
Its more like trying the stop a flood the more you block the more it builds up.

The numbers from the other European nations who are further along are day after day. You only get to hold out for a few extra days by being well prepared. Also you you only get an extra few days by flattening the curve.

    welcome development in the UK.
Hopefully something similar will be introduced in Ireland.

'Coronavirus coughing' at emergency workers could lead to two years in jail, says CPS

"The CPS says that using coughing in this way as a threat could lead to someone being charged with common assault. And it says that assaults specifically against emergency workers are punishable by up to two years in prison."

Can't believe over a thousand dead in USA already, they're just at the beginning of this crisis. It will be 50 times worst than 9/11 when finished.

If you keep the curve flattened the number of people infected peaks at a level the hospitals can handle. That's the idea. Theres no subsequent peak after a peak. That's a contradiction.

The integral below the line of the unflattened or flattened curves is the same. Same number of people infected overall, just in a different timeframe. However in one of them the hospitals can cope, in others they cant.

On twitter earlier she said she had a head cold, symptoms must be developing rapidly if they are now showing the signs of coronavirus

9/11 was very small in terms of deaths, 3,000 or so. America lost more to German U boat sinkings in both World Wars, 3 million approx from flu pandemic of 1918/19 in the US.
