Eh he hasn't implemented a total lockdown.

They still have all of the above open

People keep talking about a total lockdown. No country in Europe has issued a total lockdown. That was leo's point, there is no definition of a lockdown.

There is no Lockdown in the UK, tubes were rammed this morning with people packed in like sardines. It's gonna be mental in London. We're not perfect here but we're dealing with this Pandemic far better than Boris & co are.

Alternatively, listed to the government instructions each day, and get on and make the most of your life

The only thing I care about right now, is knowing as much about this virus and how to survive it as possible. And that involves reading as much as I can, and keeping up to date with everything and anything that might make the difference!

If others want to distract themselves with hobbies etc and distance themselves from the whole thing, as a coping mechanism... that's their choice. Good for them! Knock yourself out!

I don't need any coping mechanism. I don't need escapism from this situation...

It's a very serious situation, and I have no desire to ignore that or distract myself from it. I need to be razor sharp and focused for whatever might happen next... I can't do that if I'm distracting myself with pointless hobbies at this time!

(Nothing against hobbies btw - I engage in plenty during less important times!) :)

They still have operational public transport. They still have operational factories.

What on earth are you babbling on about?

Go back and read the other posts good lad

I think the word "lock down" should be banned in this thread,

There's not even a full one in Spain or Italy.

Happy with today's measures and restrictions, the same as I was when the previous ones were introduced.

A difficult time for the government as well as the people. Hard to get the timing right but hopefully they've done just that. Tough times still ahead but I'm glad of those that are in charge.

She was previously on discussing how they won the ‘popular vote’. When it was put to her that we have PRStV and popular vote is Meaningless, she proceeded on a rant about how SF are the people’s voice so that’s what matters

TLDR a spoofer of the highest order who can’t handle fact

Popular vote is meaningless, doesn't stop the fools in the US going on about it either though...

For a stupid as Boris Johnson is he has had a more decisive repsonse to this than our government...ours has been a joke, bits and pieces here and there while looking around at other countries on what to do rather than make our own calls.. this will be a disaster

We are doing well. Very sensible decisions and escalations being made by the government.

As the Taoiseach says, it means ten different things to ten different people.

'Restrictions' is a much better word.

Yes but he used the word lockdown on TV and if you’re stupid that’s all you need to hear.

    This is not a holiday!

You are in the middle of a very serious global crisis.

People are discussing a constantly changing dynamic. Nobody really knows what is going to happen over the next few weeks and months!

It quite often pays to be the sharpest one... the one who is watching and reading everything that is going on. Otherwise you may get caught with your trousers down, if things change at a fast pace! (Which they can and do in a crisis situation) :)

Or maybe they start a new hobby, perhaps something like survival skills! And when the interweb gets turned off they are prepared.

But public transport is still operating in the UK as well, plus people can still go to work. There hasn't been a ban in either jurisdiction on going to work, regardless of it being essential or non essential, apart from certain sectors of retail.

Is it just me, or is public transport more packed today? There's at least twice as many on my bus right now as there was yesterday.

    But there is
Cleaning to be ramped up, limit to amount of passangers and 2m rule to be adhered to.
People are much more likely to follow specific guidelines than generalities, if you want to maintain 2m separation put lines on the floors etc.

US have done about 320,000 tests & are doing about 70,00 tests a day.

the US will probably be a good region to see the true death rate in a few weeks as they should have millions of tests done by then.
    10% overall are positive.
28% positive in New York where the virus is out of control.

Just as I thought. We need to stop this dangerous overreaction before we destroy the global economy. Self isolation for the vulnerable and back to work for everyone else. https://www.ft.com/content/5ff6469a-6dd8-11ea-89df-41bea055720b

There's some clinical trials taking place for antiviral treatments, and some vaccines are in development. That said, it could be a year before the process for those is finished.

Technically it's probably still on shaky ground, but nobody would be stupid enough to challenge it right now.

There's almost ZERO difference between what's happening on the UK to what was just announced??

Size of groups is one difference.

And also, they acted late, allowed millions of people to infect each other way after Ireland took measures.

A few days ago they were planning to send the virus packing within 12 weeks.

They are testing way less than us and also testing the wrong people.

They went for herd immunity and economic protection before protecting the people which was the purpose of actions of Irish government.

They have now done an embarrassing about face that may be simply too late and Ireland, whilst not perfect is 2-3 weeks ahead with a plan in attempt to keep numbers down.

I'm glad I'm in Ireland and not in the UK.

Take it week by week. They are encouraged by some things and while we will continue to see more cases the % rise is more important than actual numbers.
