For a stupid as Boris Johnson is he has had a more decisive repsonse to this than our government...ours has been a joke, bits and pieces here and there while looking around at other countries on what to do rather than make our own calls.. this will be a disaster

Loads of idiots out jogging in Rathmines. What part of “lockdown” do they not get?

Stay at home and buy groceries once a week! Even better, get it delivered!

    Army should declare martial law.

As long as the are distancing themselves what's the problem?

Leo said exercise is a legitimate reason to be out.

Did you not see the pandemonium and calls for clarification that existed in the UK last night and this morning?

Or are you just ignoring it?

Since when do the army run the country?

I cant believe some are calling for martial law and for people to be literally imprisoned in their homes. They are losing their minds. I guarantee you wouldnt be happy about it if it actually happened.

There is no reason you cant go outside for a walk or exercise, once you arent in close contact with anyone from outside your household, avoid large groups and keep your distance from others.

They are completely in line with current instructions, as long as they keep their distance when passing others. I’m going to go for a walk now. Again, completely in line with the rules.

How ? Boris did nothing until friday when quite frankly it was already too late.

We've implemented restrictions on a phased basis

    But it's not a lockdown.

And where does it say you can't jog?

From Varadkar: " Social gatherings of individuals outdoors should be no more than four persons, unless all are from the same household."

    This is not a lockdown.

Churches are not holding public masses with several days I understand.
It can still be a place of solace for some to go on their own though.

Don't see how that is crazy.
possibly the most vunerable age groups touching surfaces and picking up virus.
closed funerals taking place. more potential carriers?

Leo specifically said this isn't a lockdown and said people should leave their house to exercise.

He stated that they could leave home to exercise but only in groups of not more than four people unless they are all part of the same household.

It's clear to everyone that travel spread the virus all over the world, so why on earth is public transport allowed to continue. How does keeping your distance to someone work on the way to train station, if when arrived you are packed in like sardines. Wuhan shut down all public transport first and foremost, it was their number one weapon against the virus. You can't be riding buses, trains, tramps, planes, taxi's, shut it all down and see the results, it forces people to stay indoors also.

We closed schools and asked people to work from home more than a week before the UK did.

Boris was still going with the herd immunity rubbish when we started closing down.

I worded that wrong I meant he implemented a full lock down we still have public transport going , factories open sites ECT, I think we should be in total lockdown aswell is what I was tryna say

But lockdown is the latest buzzword so people need to see it put in place!!!!

Yeah, martial law is a great thing and never leads to abuse, chaos and civil unrest. Ever.

    Think about what youre saying.

Really, the UK is in a fkn heap now. Too late for Boris to get away from his herd immunity experiment.

His lockdown move is an act of desperation. That is the feckin reality!

Eh he hasn't implemented a total lockdown.

They still have all of the above open

8.2% rise in total number of new cases from yesterday to today. Is it starting to flatten at all?

4 days ago cases were rising by 13% a day, it's pretty much the same rise as yesterday.

Sadly I would expect the death toll to keep rising for the next few days at least, I was surprised (welcome as it was) that it had slowed over the last two days given the lag between new cases and patients dying.

We've the same as the UK they're not in lockdown they are just using that word! A locdown would mean no shops even open.

I do t know? But you would think they would have had that list ready before that press conference so he could whizz thru it instead of causing confusion for everyone on what is essential / non essential shops

Yes, as it would be impossible to get the information afterwards on the internet,

You know, they probably hadn't completed the list and were still discussing it in a rapidly changing situation.

They still have operational public transport. They still have operational factories.

What on earth are you babbling on about?

Italy 5249 new cases, damn it , I was hoping it would be 3 days in a row the cases reduced .... very frustrating

Case numbers are determined by the testing regime, so it is difficult to make strong statements about their meaning without knowing if the testing regime has been consistent.

I think the ones demanding martial law and curfews are closet authoritarians and would be very open to the idea of living in a dictatorship.

Complete vagueness from Leo regarding businesses. I'm not impressed. But sure unless he listed every single type of buildings and said if they were to close or not there is bound to be confusion.

Managing directors around the country now have been left a window to stay in operation. Not cool

Detailed list to be released this evening
