FG have done a good job on this to be fair to them. Most people complaining are literally full time complainers, never happy with anything.

I took my dog out for a walk today and the village I'm from, which is very busy on the norm as a commuter town, was dead. No one around. It was great to see and by and large I think most people are taking this very seriously and doing what they have been told. Of course some people are acting stupid and doing silly stuff which can put people in danger but don't take a few bad apples and criticise the majority.

Also, probably best to avoid this thread quite extensively. I don't mean it offensively, and the mods are doing their best, but the hysterics and negativity is overwhelming. The last few days I've only logged on maybe once or twice a day and my mental health and general thoughts are much the better for it. I've also minimised my social network usage, listened to the radio less and only watched the main news programs to get the updates. Spend your time focusing on other hobbies, or take the time to learn something new... no good will come from reading thousands of words on this pandemic each day. :)

Perhaps FG are handling this situation well but we should never forget that they left us one of the worst prepared countries in the western world when it comes to critical care capacity. We will have to look back after this and say that we were left down by their government when it comes to health and housing.

One week into a crisis they manage to freeze rent increases and substantially increase our hospital capacity while they sat on their hands for 10 years. People would have respected them if they had taken the crisis in health and housing up to now a quarter as seriously as they have rightfully take for the COVID-19 crisis.

    Both

Ah bollox. Sad state of affairs when the new cases is more important than deaths.

Its unfortunate circumstance but you can't expect them to give everyone on the dole more money,

I agree. Look I'm ok thank God I have no mortgage. But it will create a division. Imo jsb should have been increased with jsa staying the same. Not just because I'm on jsb but because these are probably the genuine work seekers.

    Increase on yesterday.

Yep unfortunately - big death number
Why people should not get hopeful with any decline in numbers til it persists for a week

Leo said there would be a list published as to what defines and essential service that can stay open.

Anyone know where this could be found ?

    Good question
Nothing has changed for me. Business as usual

Good to see Sinn Fein working in the national interest....

I don't think they were mentioned. As food outlets you'd expect them to stay open.

The more whining I hear from Sinn Fein or make believe money that they believe we have, the more I hope they don't get into government

It's not something for this thread, but they had to clean up a mess of a massive financial collapse, couldn't spend on hospitals, that's not their fault, its governments before them etc.

But again this isn't something to be discussed on this forum.

What's going to stop employers from demanding staff turn up and then just ignore 'social distancing'?

ExCel exhibition centre in London taken over by the NHS - enough space for 2,000 patients. Military involved in converting it.

Painful, can she not just give credit where it's due. It's been a mammoth task to get Social Welfare and Revenue to get these supports up and running. Major credit is due to all concerned. Payments will be made this Friday, what more does she want

An unfortunate set of numbers from Italy after 2 days of decreases. It's not a realistic number all the same, as was said today it could be 10 times the reported numbers.

On the reported numbers we really have to see how they go for the rest of the week as lockdown is now only in effect 14 days
