UK not fvcks given......How many machines do we have in the state?

Army moves in: Military seize testing machines from private laboratories for urgent coronavirus checks on NHS staff

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8146055/Army-seizes-testing-machines-ministers-race-carry-coronavirus-checks-NHS-staff.html

    I don't know.

I would take any story from the Daily Mail with a pinch of salt but from that story the word seize is a bit of a stretch. They're moving equipment from universites to labs.

Serious question, can this cause another war in the world?

the finger pointing at China after this crisis will be IMMENSE
i can't see any way around it.

Iran , an ally of China, is getting hit seriously hard by this , so even there I can see a fracture in their relationship.

    Would Pet Mania be essential

Yes, I was in Petmania last week, the guy working there said they were told even in "full lockdown" they will remain open

FG have done a good job on this to be fair to them. Most people complaining are literally full time complainers, never happy with anything.

I took my dog out for a walk today and the village I'm from, which is very busy on the norm as a commuter town, was dead. No one around. It was great to see and by and large I think most people are taking this very seriously and doing what they have been told. Of course some people are acting stupid and doing silly stuff which can put people in danger but don't take a few bad apples and criticise the majority.

Also, probably best to avoid this thread quite extensively. I don't mean it offensively, and the mods are doing their best, but the hysterics and negativity is overwhelming. The last few days I've only logged on maybe once or twice a day and my mental health and general thoughts are much the better for it. I've also minimised my social network usage, listened to the radio less and only watched the main news programs to get the updates. Spend your time focusing on other hobbies, or take the time to learn something new... no good will come from reading thousands of words on this pandemic each day. :)

So I'm self isolating waiting for a test. Now my partner and kids have to self isolate also. So she won't be able to go to the shop etc?

Yep. Thats why people who can go to the shops do so rather than online delivery. It's people like you need that service.

there is a group thats helping out on twitter

7840 volunteers now on the island of Ireland. Another 62 volunteers signed up today to help deliver food/meds to doorsteps of vulnerable/isolated/elderly people. TEXT 087 3658233 (7am-11pm) if you need help. #selfisolationhelp RT!

What I got from that was that you'll be entitled to the 350e per week also

Luckily Regina brought self employed into the welfare bracket last year or I'd be screwed at the moment.

Are you the only one showing any symptoms?

No apart from 2 year old with the usual snotty nose he has for most of the winter so don't think it's Covid with him. I'm 3 weeks with symptoms so should be well past contagious phase.

I do t know? But you would think they would have had that list ready before that press conference so he could whizz thru it instead of causing confusion for everyone on what is essential / non essential shops

No need to be obnoxious. I perfectly understand the circumstances. What you don't seem to get is I am now in the same situation as people who have lost their job due to the virus. It will be very hard to find work now.

Its unfortunate circumstance but you can't expect them to give everyone on the dole more money,

Yeah they should close them all. We don't need food or medical supplies.

Ya the ones making smoke alarms and synthetic diamond are absolutely vital at this stage... Cause all food is made in a factory... :D

Building sites aswell vital at this point front line builders ,

For the people who were let go. If there company was to reopen later. Do they have to apply for there jobs again?

Most of these shops are closed anyway so this shouldn't represent huge changes that we've already seen.

A couple of my local barbers were still opened today. I suppose they will have to comply.

Churches are not holding public masses with several days I understand.
It can still be a place of solace for some to go on their own though.

Don't see how that is crazy.

Because the priority is not providing solace, the priority is maintaining the health of the nations people. You’ll find yourself with a shït load of solace lying in a morgue...

It’s baffles me, I’d rather stay on my own and say a few prayers knowing I’m doing that extra little bit to keep myself and those in my community healthy.

Maybe, but on the plus side it will most likely be fought with sticks and stones.

yes, it's not as dramatic as being made out:
"a Whitehall source has said the military was acting as 'essentially a delivery service'. "

the military have been delivering medical equipment ( such as facemasks) to hospitals all day today in London.

Yeh, seems a bit unfair in that case. Maybe pay the 350 to people who are getting payments based on their PRSI contributions.

A mate of mine was made redundant in December, few interviews for a couple of different places and then was offered a job with an Irish company only to be told two days before their start date that the position was no longer going ahead. I'd imagine a few will be in this position.

Are they let go or is the place just shut. I imagine once the place comes around ppl will get there old jobs back no one is gonna just kick a fully trained good employee to the curb

Dogs still need food, bedding and whatever treatments you get for them in there (flea/worm etc) so it is important i suppose

All the workers in my office told to report in tomorrow. 90% of us do non essential work but still told to come in. 50 of us in the same office. All 2 meters apart though. I would of thought non essential workers wouldn't be asked to go in. But seeing as 10% is then they are putting us all in the same boat and getting everyone in

When the hospitals are buckling over the border, where do we think our brothers and sisters in the North are going to go? If you think the recent panic-buying was crazy, wait and see how a population reacts when their hospitals are no longer able to cope, and a short drive down the road, the hospitals in the republic still have some capacity.

I do not say this to scare-monger.

I raise it because I haven't seen anybody else talking about this, and I believe it is extremely important for a conversation to start here, so that our authorities can put a plan in place asap to cope with this heretofore unforeseen demand on our health services.

Agreements should be in place between Ireland and UK, and possibly between Ireland and other EU Countries (am thinking of France - as it is the closest by plane).
Ireland might need to have the possibility to fly out patients as well.
Germany have been taking in patients from France, for example.
