Are you sure about that? Gob****es are still out there not practising social distancing.

at the moment yes I am sure.

There are only a small minority misbehaving - people like that can't be helped.
It's tough enough for people without taking away the few parts of our routine that are still up and running when it isn't (yet) called for

As we appear to head into a black situation the possibility of a triage situation as in Italy is real. i.e. for those that don't know 3 types of case. Those that need little help, those that need a lot of help and those that are deemed to be beyond help.

If it doesn't exist already shouldn't guidelines be drawn up as to who in category 2 are given priority. Probably medical personnel first, Government and vital service people second etc.

5 Days thats really quick, so I sould have said "the most reliable" as opposed to "reliable".

Was this at the start of the outbreak ?

5 days is quick for the test result to come back after been swabbed for a patient who is in ICU?
    Test result came back yesterday.

All crowded places to be avoided.....hmmm surely that is a contradiction in terms right now.

Most people have been doing what is needed.

Why would there be any change?

No, just another escalation in restrictions.

    Four people - that's a party!

Better than 100 people in a pub I suppose. The HSE are just picking numbers out of the sky. Outside people you live with you shouldn't be near anyone for social reasons.

No, we can still move about, just any non-essential stuff is now out.

Folks new symptoms to watch out for. Loss of sense of taste and smell. Feeling fine, bit of headcold but smell and taste gone.
Gp has referred me for covid 19 test as the above is a red flag symptom.

Antibodies to the virus are not part of testing. Antibody assays arent available yet. They hopefully will be someday.

The current test detects the presence of the virus. It is a test for active infection.

Antibody tests will determine previous infection or exposure to the virus.

French Gov just announced plans to conduct mass antibody testing after the end of the lockdown

On BBC News just now: the Uk have carried out 90,406 tests for Covid19 as of this morning. You don't need a degree in mathematics to see they are at nuthin, with that level of testing.

So why does their inadequate response to this pandemic affect us here?

Well, the signs are there, that they have let this get out of control already, and unfortunately, the famous curve isn't going to get as flattened as it should, which in turn means the health system is very likely to be overwhelmed á la Italy, and here's where we are going to have a serious problem: When the hospitals are buckling over the border, where do we think our brothers and sisters in the North are going to go? If you think the recent panic-buying was crazy, wait and see how a population reacts when their hospitals are no longer able to cope, and a short drive down the road, the hospitals in the republic still have some capacity.

I do not say this to scare-monger.

I raise it because I haven't seen anybody else talking about this, and I believe it is extremely important for a conversation to start here, so that our authorities can put a plan in place asap to cope with this heretofore unforeseen demand on our health services.

    1. No, only personnel qualified to work in clincial labs can process the tests.

    2. Some helthcare professionals have their work suspended. Off the top of my head, staff that primarily worked in outpatient departments can be redeployed at testing centres to take the swabs.

You would think taking a swab is a simple task but it still has to be done correctly. 2 swabs are taken, 1 from the throat, 1 from the nose.
If you don't swab the correct area i.e right at the back of the throat and right up the nasal cavity then you won't get a good sample. The quality of the sample is so important.

This task cannot be just left to the public to do themselves as they may not take the swabs correctly. I say that because I see urine and feces specimens sent into the lab in every container you can imagine; 7up bottles, jam jars, pill bottles. Any specimen not taken correctly has to be rejected.

UK not fvcks given......How many machines do we have in the state?

Army moves in: Military seize testing machines from private laboratories for urgent coronavirus checks on NHS staff

What do they mean by "rent freeze" in this context? Is it just that rents can't be increased during the emergency?

Not sure it's a great idea, economically it makes sense, but this isn't an economic emergency.
