That map is useless. I want full contact tracing so I know what streets to avoid.

Go have a chat with Dr Holohan then - last I checked your street has 5 confirmed cases

Anything like this is a major stress on societal faultlines like ethnicity and class even locale and "multicultural" Britain has a shedload of them.

The UK police aren't going to go charging into Easton or Tower Hamlets. They may patrol the fringes or something.

Does anyone know the figures of tests per day versus cases?

The reason I ask is if we had double yesterday, but did double the amount of tests, we are still on the same gradient

By needing a 'lockdown' (it's a quarantine lads) means you have completely lost control of the situation. This is not a win for Boris. The UK, like ourselves had the jump on this thing. We relatively quickly moved to the 'social distancing' approach. minimise the effect on the economy & interruption to day to day life while achieving the maximum gain.

Boris was hellbent on letting this infection burn through the population, an aim that he has achieved. This is a mere smokescreen to the damage already done.

I am glad we have our caretaker government in charge. FG seem interested only in achieving the best possible outcome for the situation we find ourselves in. Not bowing to populism, but basing policy on the best scientific advice available to them. I hate to think what would happen if we had a government that looks to just react to whatever the loudest populist rhetoric in the room might be.

I'm truly glad to be this side of the Sea.

Life would have been easier in London during The Blitz, at least after the German bombers had done their work you could enjoy yourself until the next wave came.

Probably on the RTE feed somewhere. Try IT as well. That number was quoted by both Henry and Harris. The aim is 15000 a day.

I keep seeing them say how many they will test but never see how many they are actually carrying out. If you know its 4500(i would be very happy with that) why cant you just link to it.

We're testing huge amounts more per million, even if not aggressively enough

    UK figures are total ****

This. Our own figures are much closer to the truth than the British. The British test rate are abysmal compared to our own. They with 11 times the population, have only 6 times the confirmed cases with 56 times the death rate!!!

That is insane, and shows you how truly rampant the disease already is within the UK. ALL countries figures are off, including our own(although we do need to rapidly increase test capacity), as it is simply not possible to test everyone. But the confirmed case v fatality rate in the UK should show to you how much further ahead we are than the UK. We are detecting at a rate of multitudes better than they are.

So please. Stop with the self hating paddy rhetoric, and realise we're doing alright.

This thread is 90% sad people bitching and moaning and whining about what 'other people' are doing.
This is a standard reaction to stress from weak charactered people.
You can see it in any history book, even in low budget disaster movies.
When an emergency arrives, the weakest people search to blame everyone else for their troubles.
    Don't accept it.

This reminds me of a post on the politics forum:
I'm waiting for Alex Jones et al to claim that "true patriots" have higher testosterone levels that will fight off the virus.

Hospitals in UK are already running out of ICU capacity especially in London area so UK lockdown was inevitable.

We have 25 people in ICU. If that rises dramatically you will see similar actions here.

But the UK response has been a joke since beginning of the month and now they are desperately back-tracking. Not sure we will get by with just the current methods but at least our government have been quick to acts whenever establishments like pubs and beaches etc have been failing to heed rules laid down.

when you are in hospital and they test you, how long is the turnaround time in terms of getting a result of the test?

You have to choose your timing for a lockdown carefully. You’ve only a small window of time for a complete lockdown. We’re working up to it, if it will be needed. The Uk are desperately playing catch-up.

Where would they stay though? I do think that every country should close their borders however if it is feasible and not let any more tourists into it for the moment
