Horse racing is a frivolous extravagance that shouldn't be happening during these times even behind closed doors.

I agree but it's a very very small group and really they're taken extreme measures.

    Just no.

This decision has been largely taken by big business over the last few days, all the big chains closed or have announced closures already.
Boris and the boys behind the curve.

The UK hasn't said "only essential work", he said you can travel to work but only where the work can't be done from home. That didn't sound like it would ban non-retail where people can't work from home, eg construction.

All shops selling non-essential goods, such as clothing and electronic stores, are ordered to close.

Think thats what people meant maybe. While alot of other places (factory work etc..) which can be considered non essential depending on what they produce are they allowed to go to work ? or is it everything thats non essential

Just after hearing that my partner's sister got spat at in the face in the queue in Lidl today. She was at the belt in one of the social dis boxes, woman behind her was coughing and standing too close. She asked the woman politely if she'd step back, no the woman spat in her face. The woman had a young child with her. Imagine that being your mother! They served her then banned her from the shop.

They should have ****ing shot her.

It's only a matter a time before people on here are quoting God Save the Queen. Jesus Christ, never seen anything like it.

If Irish people are forced into a lock down, they'll all head outside just because they been told not too nor could we enforce it.

The system Ireland has used has been gradual and measure, it's working for the most part.

So what's the story with NI in all this?

Part of the UK so same measures apply there.

I was out on Wexford’s beaches every day , social distancing largely working , in major ships too, one of two places are not well prepared but in general , I’d say it’s working reasonably well.

People praising Boris here need to take a look in the mirror. This man is just after performing a massive backtrack after making a major f*ck up as if nothing happened.

The thing that matters is should this scenario play out here now or later.
Every country bar Korea appears to have fcked up at some stage.

Someone must have shown Boris the real numbers.

So because England eventually saw sense we should refuse to because England did it?

We've adopted a different strategy and are weeks ahead of UK.

Why do people not get this.

There is an obsession with lockdown on this thread.

How are you possibly comparing us with a country with nearly 350 deaths? It's a ridiculous comparison. You can't compare countries in this scenario.
Because we are testing at a snail's pace. The full extent won't be known here.for some time.
We have thousands of idiots going around like nothing's wrong. Our figures grew by more today than ever. We had two deaths, we had four deaths in eight days before today.
Tomorrow is likely going to be worse again.

That's assault and should be reported, plenty of cctv as evidence. Vile disgusting thing to do.

Why does Paddy Cosgrave think it's ok for him to spread personal information on Twitter about victims?

He's also peddling that 15 minute test that isn't even accurate as an Irish success story. It's just a rebranded Chinese test that's not accurate enough!

    Some a****ole

it's going to be interesting to see how the British police enforce this in certain gangland/ghetto areas of London.

Its all about timing lads, they keep telling us that. The UK have been saying it from day one. It may be too early for us yet but it will come.

A few days ago Leo agreed to follow Boris and 'closely align' with the UK 'as far as possible'.

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-ireland-britain/irish-british-pms-pledge-to-align-closely-on-coronavirus-spokesman-idUSKBN2163XD

Has to be announced here tomorrow.

Lol, people throwing hissy fits because people thought Boris delivered a good speech. A lot of Irish people are just hoping the UK goes to absolute sh*t over this., it's sad. Should you not be over on reddit ireland posting anti-Brit memes with the rest of the teenagers?

It'd be a disgusting thing to do at any time. Not only assault, but potentially reckless endangerment as well.

Non-retail, as I said, and from my reading of it anyone else - eg that factory or construction workers - were ok, but I imagine they'll clarify and close down more and more stuff.
