Why? Their situation is different to ours? Population levels and denisity is also a factor.

We usually copy the UK in political moves so I say we can expect a similar move here..
Well, they went off on their own tack and then very belatedly decided to copy everyone else. They need to do it given the total mess they made of it. We seem to doing a better job of it so far so still wait and see time.

It was all good in theory but I didn't hear him spell out how they will practically enforce it. Other countries who introduced such measures required citizens to have paperwork.

How are you possibly comparing us with a country with nearly 350 deaths? It's a ridiculous comparison. You can't compare countries in this scenario.

    Ok Leo

We need that ban here. I seen about 6 groups of youths gathering around today

    Absolutely infuriating

If they did that to me they'd be the ones requiring hospitalisation, and i'm not joking or playing the big man.

We are taking/ have taken unnecessary risks. Underestimating the exponential growth of this disease. In 2 weeks we will be in major trouble

They don't give out those details in briefings.

The UK hasn't said "only essential work", he said you can travel to work but only where the work can't be done from home. That didn't sound like it would ban non-retail where people can't work from home, eg construction.

Restaurants, cafes, coffee shops, horse racing all still going on though. Hows the "Strong social distancing push." Going?

Ireland needs to follow the same as the UK now.

Horse racing behind closed doors and strict conditions.

Social distancing is going well here I feel.

Also, most restaurants, coffee shops and cafes are closed. Must be at 95% levels.

Once that genie is let out, there is no going back. Economy is destroyed. We may suffer more deaths and suffering because of that fact. There is no good outcome for his next move whatever it is.

If betting shops which are not known for their compassion have the sense to close then why the **** are those open?

Ireland has been doing great, lets get real, every town and city in Ireland is a ghost town, yes a few sneaky pups open in rural places, and people going on trips to scenic areas, but that's a drop in the ocean to what we have achieved regarding distancing .
We haven't seen '' sardine in a tin'' type gathering in Ireland, like we've seen in the UK in the past two weeks.

Are people also aware Leo and Boris are taking advice from the medical experts??

Making out Boris made this decision all on his own and is some genius.

    Cop on.

No gatherings of more than 2 people. Only allowed travel to and from work. Imagine what kind of nonsense this is in the likes of London where you will be pinned up against a window on the tube (and its fine), but 3 mates having a coffee is out of order.

Just to be clear, I wouldn't think "going for coffee" is fine either, but you can see what a mixed message it is.

Big increase in cases and deaths in Turkey today. Just shows you when Erdogan said Turkey had no cases of Covid19 he was right because there were not Ff..king testing for it. 37 dead out of 1500+ cases.

i never thought he'd do it - but by god - the UK is now on full lockdown.

Not even WW2 was that restrictive.

    This is incredible.

The UK has literally entered "war mode"

    What even is this post?

Some posters actually seem to be getting some perverse enjoyment out of the situation unfolding.

We're now much looser than UK. People cannot crib about UK now. Our own house is not in order.

I’ve been thinking this for days..

We seem a little nonchalant about it. Holohan, for me, although articulate, appears just a little too normal and calm. Too calm.. he seems to be just an update machine.

We need drivers, people really pushing the narrative..

Taking them off them and sedating them so they don't feel pain as they die alone.

But a bag of chips is more important.

A bag of chips is more important? What the fk are you talking about? Shrill social media crap. People queued in their cars for a take away. Get the **** over yourself.

People praising Boris here need to take a look in the mirror. This man is just after performing a massive backtrack after making a major f*ck up as if nothing happened.

What would you rather he do? Give up and cry in the corner? He has massively stepped up effort now.
