I never really got the love for McDonalds here, independent chippers are a million times better and the price is pretty much the same.

    They're really not.

Can you get the corona virus twice ?

Yes. There have been cases of people getting re-infected.

I'm totally confused now! The "official" figure yesterday we included in the thread title was 785

It was updated to 906 by another mod around 2pm today, which would explain the 1,125 figure

Possibly the figures the HSE are putting out are net of recoveries:confused:

    21st - 786
    22nd - 906
    23rd - 1,125

The stupid spreaders need to be firmly dealt with.

You do realise the whole point of the measures put in place a week ago were to prevent us from going up that steep curve?

Can you get the corona virus twice ?

So far it would seem the answer is no.
Research is ongoing to try to determine how long you have immunity after recovering.

sounds like you had it alright... and got through it

so do you really need to do the test?

it sounds more hassle then its worth if you have to involve other people.
They do the test anyway to check for antibodies. If you've none you didn't the virus in the first place so still at risk. But I'm just emeldc on boards, not a doctor 🙄🙄

You don't see the Dublin border?

Do you see the 3000 sq km Wicklow Mountains National Park?

The range is the Wicklow mountains, a mountain range doesn't change name when a little bit of it is in another county.

    Visit here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dublin_Mountains

    :P

The greatest threat to our health system in living memory and you're arguing about the name of a mountain range?

80 people attending a 21st. They shoulda been kept in the house when found instead of sent home. No use to the country any of them.

Responding mainly because your post will get lost in this fast-moving thread. You are absolutely correct here. The number of positives is important but the figure which gets us closer to understanding how quickly this thing is spreading is:

(number of positive cases) / (number of tests carried out)

It gives us an estimate of what percentage of the population is infected.

For example, if yesterday we tested 1000 people and got 50 confirmed cases and today we tested 100 people and get 6 confirmed cases, you can see how misleading that would look of we only published the number of confirmed cases.

I do understand the difficulty of doing this and I know that lag affects the accuracy of this data but even getting the number of positive versus negative tests would give a much clearer picture of where we are.
Problem is that I do not believe it can even do that with any validity. All current tests are being carried out on a self-selecting population sample

We must have fixed interval testing of a statistically valid random population sample to get an reasonably accurate picture in order to make informed decisions.

That may be not have been a reasonable path to follow previously, but we must do it now with more processing capability coming on stream.

There are no easy choices in this but at least the data will be there to enable a better decision matrix. Whether we as a state are capable of making good use of it is another matter.

Whatever the decisions made, people will die and be weakened unnecessarily.

More probable that numbers will be lower when those decisions are based on reliable data.

This nonsense needs to stop it's been explained over and over that these were people who did not fully recover.
    It was no a reinfection.

Really? Around my way they are. Proper fish and chips. Nice for a treat. I'd barely be able to choke down what McDonalds has to offer.

People queuing in Douglas Cork for McDonald's closing at 7pm. Morons.
Probably the same people who were queuing outside Beshoffs yesterday.

At least there in cars and more then 2 meters apart

Sort of like the ones in France where you can get a beer.

I wonder how many of these and down to them not been able to source the correct masks as people are buying them all

I'd say none because they don't get them from woodies / b and q or amazon. They get from industrial suppliers. The contract is worth a hell of a lot. The problem is other countries got there first. Germany banned export PPE.

We have a huuge pharmactuical industry, why are we not subbing out some test reading to their labs??
    Not possible
    - dont have equipment
    - staff aren't qualified
    - not acccredited labs
    - takes time to validate equipment and tests
    - logistics/IT
2000 tests a day, 40000 waiting. 20 days to clear backlog at the current rate. Need to seriously ramp up the testing

    We. Are.

If we kept numbers at 20% daily in a month we are roughly 60K cases,if at 30% its just shy of half a million iirc

Kinda easy to see why people would be satisfied to be below 30%,

Noone is happy with increasing cases, but better than people give up hope saying fcuk it,and numbers escalate out of any hope of control???

People really don't value their time do they. Why would you want to spend such a long time sitting in your car for something you could make at home in a few minutes.
