So you were speculating. You have no evidence to back up your claim. This is a very serious situation and we can do without this sort of stuff winding others up

I was making an observation based on test waiting time delays as seen in the other threads, I wasn't trolling or winding anyone up

So the horse racing goes on

Does that mean that bookies are still open?

PP and Boyles are closed since last week.

If the government introduce a payment scheme for employees covering a certain percentage of their income. What will they do for self employed????

Had a heavy headache on Thursday 12/03, called in sick for work on that day. The Friday/Saturday night after that i woke up bathing in sweat in the middle of the night, very dizzy and slightly fainted in the bed, but could sleep on afterwards. No further fever since then, but continuous coughing. Feeling that I'm slightly getting better since last Saturday.

sounds like you had it alright... and got through it

so do you really need to do the test?

it sounds more hassle then its worth if you have to involve other people.

    In terms of schools

Ive two in secondary and teachers are sending them work online etc..seems to work well with Google classroom

One in primary. Text mesage to say school open Wednesday come collect books so parents can continue lessons at home..no teacher input

Already been keeping up with school work from various sites but the tone of the message irked me a bit

Per capita, we're doing good. Our real problem is our ICU capacity and necessary equipment.

That is great we are doing well on the testing front. I think a key difference between here and S Korea is strict quarantine measures. They may have to implement them here

Lads was their horse racing on today behind closed doors? Disgrace if so. How is it possible to keep 2m apart when one or more people have to bring the horse into the track to race etc. There is still a risk of spreading coronavirus.

Yes its on in Ireland and they have moved meetings to have one meeting every single day for those problem gamblers.

When will it sink in that the current 'Confirmed Cases' number is MEANINGLESS, unless and until, it is the based on the number test of results completed.

Not while it's based on tests carried out but awaiting processing, not while we have 40,000+waiting to be tested.

The numbers will continue to vary widely until that point is reached. Not even tentative inferences can start to be drawn 'till then

Why is that proving so difficult for some people posting here to understand?

Responding mainly because your post will get lost in this fast-moving thread. You are absolutely correct here. The number of positives is important but the figure which gets us closer to understanding how quickly this thing is spreading is:

(number of positive cases) / (number of tests carried out)

It gives us an estimate of what percentage of the population is infected.

For example, if yesterday we tested 1000 people and got 50 confirmed cases and today we tested 100 people and get 6 confirmed cases, you can see how misleading that would look of we only published the number of confirmed cases.

I do understand the difficulty of doing this and I know that lag affects the accuracy of this data but even getting the number of positive versus negative tests would give a much clearer picture of where we are.

I have a sinus infection and deffo need an antibiotic, do ye reckon I'll have a hell of a time getting an appointment? Has anyone here had to see a doc since this all happened? I feel a bit embarrassed ringing the GP now for this when I know it's so busy.

Also a bit scared to wait in a GP surgery just in case

I had a sinus infection last week and had to ring doc cause I knew I needed an antibiotic. He did phone consultation as they weren’t letting anyone in with respiratory symptoms and it cost €30 and left prescription with reception so I just had to drop in and pay and collect. Was happy with that as like you I didn’t want to have to sit in waiting room.

I saw my GP last week. They don't let anyone hang around the waiting room, they speak to you before you go in to confirm you don't have any symptoms, haven't had contact with a confirmed case, etc. Then they let you in and they maintain the two metre distance unless they have to examine you. The GP had a mask and gloves on. Nobody is allowed wait outside, you get a call once the previous patient as left.

It's going to happen soon I would guess, to try and maximise our ICU and staff capacity. As the WHO keep saying, test, test, test. Regardless of additional government measures, us punters have to do our bit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,707 ✭✭✭irishgeo

Higher testing will give us the figures of unknown cases people are giving out about.the more tested and the cases cleared will give is a lower death rate.

As from the start we are following the WHO advice. Maybe the irish doctor in charge of the WHO is giving us advice.

We are our own making of this spread of disease. We have no one to blame but ourselves when people arent listening to the medical advice we have been given.

A sizeable portion of the population are following the guidelines and at the end of the day we are all only responsible for ourselves. We have no control over what others do and if they choose to ignore the guidelines.

Our own government is playing a part in the spread of this disease too. A sizable portion of the population are following the guidelines while potential cases are still allowed to fly into our country.

I'm totally confused now! The "official" figure yesterday we included in the thread title was 785

It was updated to 906 by another mod around 2pm today, which would explain the 1,125 figure

Possibly the figures the HSE are putting out are net of recoveries:confused:

    Netherlands just announced new measurs

    1) No more group gatherings until June 1
    2) Local mayors can decide local rules.
    3) Fines will be administered on people who do not observe social distancing of 1.5 meters with the exception of household groups.

Dutch health department still says there's no health risk with children playing together with other children as they advise that children do not contract or transmit the virus. Find that strange as I don't think other countries advise that.

But I understand that non essential shops are still open in the Netherlands and that they are not enforcing tele-working, so it is not a lockdown.
Risky Government policy, they are still going for herd immunity.

    Are you with Laya healthcare?

I'd a sinus infection, and was able to get an online video appointment the next morning. Rang last Friday, got a video call appointment for 10am next day.
They emailed the antibiotic prescription direct to my chemist.

    https://www.careoncall.ie/

Also, I think it's now medical protocol to refer all respiratory issues (any cough basically) for a Corona test. So I imagine the HSE will contact me at some stage for that.

There may be other online doctors you could see?
