Wow that's a nice idea but they are the cohort with most exposure / risk. Would not like to go shopping after them. 10% of doctors in Italy became infected. They should be prioritised online rather than concentrating them like that.

Thta simply isn't true. Italy has had 3 people die in the past week that had no underlying condition. Thats 3 out of a few thousand, less than 0.1%.

The 4 cases in Ireland so far are all people with serious underlying conditions that would probably have passed away had they caught any flu strain.

This is very serious but lets stop the misinformation.

What you are saying is incorrect but either way, people saying stuff like "underlying condition", makes it sound like they were dying so therefore it doesn't matter.

The underlying condition could be immunosupressed people, diabetes patients, asthma patients etc.

It does not mean that you can just write their death off as "ah it was going to happen anyway".

Also, any decent society with any moral compass should be protecting these people anyway.

A few weeks ago, I too was saying "ah it's just a flu" but when you see the death rates now around Europe and how they're ramping up and the desperate situation in hospitals in Italy and Spain then it's clear this is a very dangerous virus and it's right to do what we're doing.

40,000 waiting is not a problem as long as they are self isolating. A test is not a cure, it is a snapshot in time that shows if someone is infected and is then used to ensure isolation to reduce spread. If those 40,000 self isolate, have the virus, and get better without passing it on, it's not really a problem.

Well actually the fact that we didn't contact trace anyone within this cohort is potentially a big problem.
Even if all 40,000 behaved perfectly, which is highly unlikely, there's no way they all conducted their own contact tracing.

with normal flu, 1 person can infect 1.4 people - ten layers later , that 1 person is responsible for 14 flu infections.

With Corona, 1 person can infect 3 people - ten layers later, that 1 person is responsible for 59,000 infections!!!

    From the New York Times
    How the Virus Got Out
Over 900 people went to New York every month on average, based on recent trends …
    … over 2,200 to Sydney …
… and over 15,000 people went to Bangkok, the most popular destination.
That’s where the first known overseas case appeared in mid-January, a 61-year-old woman who traveled from Wuhan to Bangkok despite having a fever, headache and a sore throat.
Other early cases turned up in Tokyo, Singapore, Seoul and Hong Kong. The U.S. confirmed its first case near Seattle.

Don't know of any websites, but if you rang the local GAA club, they are helping out with deliveries or could let you know who to contact.

A lot of local shops are taking orders over the phone as well and they will arrange deliveries.

Nandos and Costa Coffee have just announced they are shutting down in the UK. MacDonalds announced the same earlier this morning.

I was in a Costa a week ago near me, and left, because they had absolutely zero precautions in place. All the small businesses around me were going out of their way to sort something to follow guidelines and Costa were doing nothing...so I am glad to hear that.

I'm a delivery driver who works nights. I drive from Limerick to Dublin every night at 12am and back again. I have to say that it's an absolute pleasure driving around these days. Especially in Dublin. No taxis trying to cut you up at every opportunity. I know the situation is bad. But I'm trying to have a positive attitude in these trying times..

Testing and tracing combats the spread.

The HSE have been screaming the mantra, test, test, test the past week.

They are failing. You can spin it any way you want but they are failing.

They need to get back on top of it.

Costa weren’t letting people sit down and very strictly only serving two customers at a time.

A lot of other countries have stopped community testing because they are overwhelmed. We are keeping it going but its slow.

The uk or spain or italy only test people presenting to hospital and our test turnaround for those people is 12 hours similar to those countries.

I think the wait times are too long in Ireland. I know there is huge pressure but we’ve had weeks to prepare for this. Italy got bad early March. I thought we would have been more prepared for even the testing of people so they could establish how many people have it at this stage.

It’s not the frontline workers , they are doing the very best they can and all workers helping with this are fantastic for doing so

Does that mean anyone that has the virus and is still waiting 14 days will show up negative? Or is there a way to tell if someone had the virus due to antibodies? Can this this even the same test ?

I don’t know the testing method well, can someone post info about it and how long it takes etc ?
