Chinese figures were and are bogus. This is the same government that was trying to sell the world on the idea that their network of concentration camps was some sort of giant happy-clappy FÁS scheme.

Otomart (a poster here) has info on where the Italian strain originated. Bavpat1. I don’t know if it’s a new strain or if he has more info.

    Search for his posts.

Called this on another thread. A crisis like this is Christmas day to autocrats and despots.

What's worse, many governments will now be very tempted to adopt tracking and tracing technologies as adopted by China and South Korea (which is a democratic country, but isn't shy about employing invasive technology to trace infections).

For many millions, this stuff will be the new normal when the crisis subsidies. We will have to remain vigilant in the free world not to be duped by politicians with autocratic tendencies to undermine our liberties under the pretext of fighting the virus or the future threat of a further outbreak.

So the 700+ or whatever the current number is does not include those who have recovered from it?

The current number is the total number of cases since the start. There are some recovered but we've not been given the numbers.

Mc Donald's seem to be closing to public but they also said they will look at supplying food locally. Maybe feeding quarantined, homeless and hse working staff ?

Which would mean they would need alot of their staff for prep and production.

The are planning to give any food left over due to closing. Their issue is they cant work at distance in their workplace.

I wouldn't believe any data coming out of China.

All data provided by the Chinese is in interest of saving face of Xi Jinping and his henchmen.

Looks like public areas, beaches, forests, mountain walks & parks etc are going to be shut down with Gardai to enforce.

We aren't going for a lockdown well because we're basically supposed to be doing it anyway. We've been told for weeks now about distance, work from home, don't go out if needed.

Yet some gob****es over the last 2 weekends couldn't help themselves and found the need to pile the whole family into cars and go up the mountains and the beaches.

Its possible to go out and get your exercise in without having to go to these areas. To the minority of the population who haven't obeyed social distancing, they're about to ruin it for everyone. Seems to be an irish thing of when your told to do something some people do thr opposite.

There's videos of the French stuffing themselves into a market when they were asked to stay at home and same with the English yesterday. I don't think it's just an Irish thing. Like a bold child thing doing the opposite of what you tell them to

Just put an order in for Tesco's and the next available delivery date was April 8th.

Heard hospital staff complaining that instead of calling the doctor or helpline, people are attendin A &E and when they say they think they have covid they jump to the front of the queue, this is putting A&E staff at risk and the entire hospital in fact. I cant yet calculate the % of stupid in this country but its increasing day by day.

nothing wrong with going out, and all along we are told to get exercise and stay healthy.
i took my 9 yr old for a great walk today in the sunshine around a large lake near us, nobody around, we both enjoyed it too.
i have it drummed into him, if you meet someone and they have a head, then stay two meters away.
the message is keep a distance away from other people, not dont go out..and it doesn't need to be....that'll end up very quickly with very fustrated and unhealthy people.

We were told there was a low to moderate chance of getting it in Ireland.

We were told you had to be within one metre for 15 minutes to contract it.

I'd be more confident now listening to the Chinese, Italian and Spanish doctors than ours. Stay in, do not go out unless absolutely necessary (food and medication) is their advice.

Annoying alright, especially when there's any number of less popular beaches you can enjoy. I'm fortunate that we live 10 minutes from a nice beach but we're in a large town so the missus and myself brought our little one 30km away to a nice rural beach that had virtually no-one on it.

Folks, I know it's only speculation and no-one other than those in power know the full score but do you think we're going to get to a stage where the postal system goes into lock down? The company I work for has been hit by the pandemic but the part of the company I work for is still managing to make money- but it all depends on goods coming into and going around the country.

The beach where I live would be very popular but I basically dont go out for a walk until evening time when there is virtually nobody down there.

Ok that means being stuck inside most of the day but it's short term pain for long term gain.

No that's considered an essential service so there will always be some sort of service. Albeit probably reduced.

We have a discipline problem here. If the Germans are told not to do something they don’t do it.

Not my experience of our German friends, they are as recalcitrant as the next man when it comes down to it.

You can find reports of many Germans having 'corona parties' if you'd care to look.

Also, their early response was somewhat botched and all over the place with the individual Länder having responsibility for anti-virus measures and they were far from being on the same page.

    Bondi beach Sydney, CLOSED

Very sensible, staying away from others will quickly be the norm, for a while anyway.

I'd be confident that the actions have worked to an extent, but the figures coming out simply aren't credible at this stage of the pandemic observing how it spread around Europe.

Hundreds of millions of journeys were being made around Chinese New Year that would have had it spread to every corner of the country.

Ultimately, the communist party will conjur up whatever set of figures suit them and is politically expedient. It's not like their inexperienced covering things up and literally 'hiding the bodies.'

Too bloody right mate, it's not just an Irish thing.

The Aussies were told not to congregate close together on the beach's, so the next day they raced out to Bondi beach to show their defiance.

So the Gov officially CLOSED Bondi beach and had lifesavers and police on patrol to enforce the closure.
