    Latest figures show

    Madeira 7
    Isle of Man 5

They should stop flights to the international space station to stop it spreading there.
    Just saying...

The safest place is probably that North Sentinel Island of the coast of India no one can enter as the islanders will kill you, like the demented US preacher who was trying to convert them last year. But you would kinda have to sneak on. That and maybe Antarctica probably.

Your idea of safe and ability to assess risk are questionable.

If you haven't been infected yet, jumping off the cliffs of Moher is a 100% guaranteed effective measure to ensure you remain uninfected.

From what I've seen on social media it seems many people were treating today as if it was the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Pure and utter stupidity and selfishness.

    I don't give a **** if you've got kids, stay at home!

Those of us that are actually following the recommendations will probably end up getting punished with further measures because of the actions of these *****

New Zealand 102. Up 50. Had 52 cases yesterday, so almost 100% increase in cases. No deaths.

If it cost €10 per household to get tested would you pay?

My family members and my household have voluntarily being self isolating since this was announced like many in the country have been also. I think those who have been isolating understand the need for this. Those who are not isolating and especially today of all days those who have been visiting mothers, elderly in most cases, either think they can't be effected by this, are living in their own universe (very possible) or are not educated enough in the implications of this, in which case it is the failure of not dumbing it down enough for them.

It is very frustrating to know you are playing your part in this by complying only for it to be completely undone by people not following the guidelines set. Ireland has been really good so far in dealing with this which is extremely surprising, most peoples faith in Government in this country is non existent, given the track record and previous failings of the state in the past and in recent times.

I have to applaud all involved behind the scenes in accomplishments with this crisis. I feel everyone at Government level is working together, rather than being their usual political agenda driven selves. There is only one agenda here in this crisis, which is to delay the health systems being overwhelmed to a point where it all comes crashing down. This will happen more likely than not with peoples current daily behaviour.

I had to go the local shop yesterday for bread. There's a gang of youths standing outside the shop on a daily basis, for want of better truth loitering. This is just one example of behaviour of the young, but sadly adults are also not following guidelines; this non-compliance needs to end soon otherwise there will be an exponentially increasing number of cases which will bring this country crashing down on it's already overwhelmed health system. It will always exponentially increase but it is simple stay away from others for at least 14 days. The frequency (that is speed for anyone not able to understand) at which the Virus is able to pass from person to person is slowed or non existent if you stay away from each other.

Logistically speaking it is impossible to test every single individual in this country in a short time. But this is exactly what needs to happen in order choke hold this crisis. Iceland have done this, granted they have less population than Ireland and a great health system but nothing is impossible! Get the resources to swab the 4.9M+ people in the country (minus those already tested) at the very least this will show the whole country that there is a possibility of making this last as short a time as possible. Instead of the current don't care attitude people have it will make them realise and see how serious an issue this is plus give them the confidence they need to isolate themselves, their participation will knock them off that surprisingly short pedestal they're on.

Even if test results can't be accomplished as quickly as can be tested for there is a abundance of potential were test results will be negative. In which case these would have less priority of getting results, but there is always that random factor where a person could pick up the virus, either in being not fully isolated e.g. a job in a necessary role dealing with the public on a daily basis. Where is the random testing?? This needs to be done at the very least.

It has been said that nobody in immune to this: I put it to the chief medical officer that this is an out and out lie, as not everyone has been tested ultimately no one knows if they have been exposed to it or not or if someone is immune - immunity would mean no symptoms if you have no symptoms there is nothing to suggest you have COVID-19 - if someone does not have symptoms how does anyone know if they are or are not immune without being tested for the Virus and immunity. If you are walking around being a vector more likely than not you do not know it, randomly testing is the logical thing to do in that case. Another thing is you may already have had this and your symptoms where not noticeable enough. Testing and confirmation is only done if you have a dry cough or temperature. This is way too late in the game to be getting tested and confirmed. If you have a dry cough and temperature why are test times and resources being wasted, it is highly likely that you have COVID-19.

Does it have to get to a point where a sick person(s) stages of illness and death has to be shown to to the whole world in order for people to get how serious this is? There are those among us that may find this entertaining, right now I would place everyone not in compliance with staying away from others, where possible for a period of 14 days in this category.

You can make anything as complicated as you want it to be, it is in the times were you are focused on a single task that you accomplish and overcome the impossible.

They know because in other countries they have tested people who had no symptoms and some were found to be positive for it!
In Iceland around half of the people who tested positive had no symptoms.

Or are you trying to say that someone may be immune themselves but may still carry it and still be able to spread it?

Was a big post to digest
No one is immune - clue is in the name (novel)

You can be asymptomatic while your body fights the virus and kills it, during this time you will still be spreading it - after your body kills the virus hopefully you gain immunity for the future

The advice on not wearing masks is so as to limit demand and so ensure adequate supplies for health workers.

    Masks work.

Seriously, you're quoting an opinion piece on a blog from a retired senior lecturer in arts and communication to state that masks work.

Yes, they'll work in stopping you spread the virus if you have it but won't stop you getting it as you walk the streets or do your shopping.

The advice is not just to protect stocks as many say, it's just sound advice. People often buy masks that doctors don't use anyway.

Stay in everyone. This virus is capable of killing thousands and thousands of people here. In another week our hospitals will be overflowing. There are so many people waiting to get tested who have the disease. Use extreme hygiene precautions/measures when going out but please only do so in an emergency for food and medicines. I live in a rural area and anecdotally I know of several people who have it. I know of elderly couples who have it but still haven't been tested. It this is the case then God help us as a nation. It's everywhere.

I got the call an hour ago around 1.55 am that an ambulance was on the way to me.
I was directed to leave the doors open for him, a chair for him to use as a table to get ready and then wait for him on a sitting room chair. He checked my HR, BP and temp. He said wow you wore pjs and I dressed up for you in my gown! lol he was absolute gent.

The swab was fine and he was so nice to me as I freak out at anything like that! I was given a bag with a big 5 page leaflet on whats going on, what to do etc. Two surgical masks and a rubbish bag. A gift from Leo himself apparently haha.

I'm so so impressed with how we've handled this. Leo being a physican has really played a major part in this.
Stay safe, wash your hands and self isolate lads! Love to ye all.

New Zealand going in to lockdown in 48 hours.
Quite severe measures, might be an indication of where we might go this week:

People instructed to stay at home
    Educational facilities closed
Businesses closed except for essential services (e.g. supermarkets, pharmacies, clinics) and lifeline utilities
Rationing of supplies and requisitioning of facilities
    Travel severely limited
    Major reprioritisation of healthcare services

    (Guardian blog)

The CoronaVirus levels system was announced over the weekend so everyone has know since Saturday this was coming.
A lot of workplaces went into lockdown mode as of this morning, with the last of employees sorting out remote working stuff today.

The only surprise really was has it's going to Lvl4 quite so fast, but no massive objections from anyone really at this stage.

The restrictions will last for a minimum of 4 weeks, and at that stage it'll be clear whether the restrictions have worked or not.

Nice of them to give everyone plenty of notice... doubt we will see any panic buying

:pac: :o you wish. Although over the weekend, flour and pasta were the 2 major items missing from shelves rather than toilet paper. Per customer limits are already in place, so that will continue, and be extended.
It'd fully expect to see absolutely jam packed supermarkets especially in Auckland once the work day finishes.

I know its crazy and he was a gent. Made me laugh over and over again lol. My HR was high and he said it sounded like I had it but that it had left my system (hopefully) and said thank god I self isolated.. its the most important thing with handwashing at this time.

Also I was talking to him and agreed its so important: use your non dominant hand to open doors

    no.
nothing wrong with going out, and all along we are told to get exercise and stay healthy.
i took my 9 yr old for a great walk today in the sunshine around a large lake near us, nobody around, we both enjoyed it too.
i have it drummed into him, if you meet someone and they have a head, then stay two meters away.
the message is keep a distance away from other people, not dont go out..and it doesn't need to be....that'll end up very quickly with very fustrated and unhealthy people.

My point is they do not know if anyone is immune. Without testing everyone they won't know.

It's a paradox which can not be accounted for without testing everyone. The logical conclusion is no-one is immune because there have been so many cases. But the lack of symptoms in confirmed cases should be enough evidence that some people are immune. Immunity means you are resistant to the effects it has on you, it does not necessarily mean you will have no symptoms it just means your body is more adept at fighting the infection that makes you feel unwell. Someone else's immune system may not be as proficient!

The catch is: with immunity comes a more proficient pathogen. If this mutates into something stronger the next time around you may not be immune. With more cases the more chances it has at mutating.

I think the point is that if everyone goes for a walk then it will be chaotic. More unhealthy if people transmit the virus. I live in a rural setting and in the good weather there are lots of people around unfortunately.

This is my fear all along. The more younger people get it the more virulent it will become. Agree on the testing. Everyone will eventually have to be tested to ascertain if we have reached the critical level of herd immunity. I also fear a vaccine will take a little longer than expected.
