Yes indeed, we should have a strong indication of what the 'curve' looks like in the next seven days
If we do scale the daily testing from 2k to 4.5k from Monday and the effects of the social distancing come true, we should certainly get a better picture of our curve.

Here's the guidelines we have at present

    Don't Attend Work

    - Close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19
    - Awaiting testing or awaiting results of testing
    - You have tested positive
-Returned from foreign travel outside of the island of Ireland

Seek Medical Advice Before Attending Work

    - You are immunocompromised
    - Experiencing symptoms

    Attend Work

    - No symptoms
    - You have tested negative
    - Close contact of a close contact of a person who has tested positive
    - Close contact of a person who is awaiting testing or results

Last two in the final column doesn't seem sound to me but that's the guidelines. Also, locally have been told that the medical staff on campus are for prisoners only, which is a bit sh*tty!
I'd be more worried about the 'Tested Negative', proves absolutely nothing.

Unfortunately its this period on where the deaths are likely to start climbing

I understand that but compared to the UK when adjusted for population it's still a good result.

My friend is working in contact tracing 12 hours a day, six days a week, so while the poster didn't mean that literally (as you know) we can be confident the health minister is working pretty darn crazy hours.

The dig is something as innocuous/inconsequential as a perceived smirk being a problem... when there's a devastating pandemic gripping much of the world.

    Well done to your friend.

It didn’t give off a vibe that he was serious about what he was saying hence the factual comment about his facial expression when saying about the amount of people out and about today, which will possibly have a devastating implications on the public health in this uncertain time.

Exactly some people like to get a dig in no matter what. Dig taken

So we should expect that 30% figure to drop?

I would imagine so...but as a lot of people have no symptoms or mild symptoms that they may think are something else then they may not be tested....so if we only test people who seemed really bad then the number would remain high or become even higher.

I think a simpler solution would be to shut down popular beauty spots rather than lockdown the entire country. Only a tiny percentage of the population were actually at those places today.

I say shut down 'The Prom' forever

It's just not a big deal. People being close together in numerous groups is though.

30% of people here were hospitalised with the virus according to the information released today.

Does this mean the 80% figure about feeling mild or moderate symptoms is wrong?

Where did you get that figure from?

Was in Supervalu on Saturday and in their bakery they have a self service bread slicer. There's a sign asking customers to wear gloves provided whilst using the machine.

I think the wearing of gloves and masks by the public is nonsense but I understood this request. So after slicing my bread, a girl went to the machine. She was wearing her won gloves and then proceeded to put the shop's gloves on over them.

Really I thought it was the most ridiculous thing I ever saw.

I read on the comment section of the Daily mail article of the 18 year old who died. Paraphrasing 'I mentioned to my boss, I'll be working at home and if she is not happy she can sack me.'

I agree, we always seem to abide by the powers to be when we need to. I know there's a lot not taking the social distancing seriously, but the fast majority are.
I'm sure the government and those working on the statics expect some non-compliance. You have to remember some companies did start getting workers to work from home days before the school shutdown and a lot of people did start social distancing earlier also. Maybe that's the reason for the lower than expected numbers the past 3 days.

I don't think enough people have been socially distancing properly unfortunately

You know the people you see who are not socially distancing are the very visible as they're out in the public.

The vast majority of people who are distancing are staying at home and you don't see them. It's a massive majority in my opinion.

Even today, being Mother's Day I saw pictures and videos of people I know showing how they visited their mother and just left presents in their garden and I would have bet beforehand that they just wouldn't bother observing the requirement.

I'm genuinely not trying to scaremonger or speculate or anything of the kind but, we don't really know all that much about this virus, do we?

I know in particular case, a young man from Ireland went to Italy when he was warned not to, contracted the virus, was cocky enough to say he's fit enough to get over it and yet, he was on breathing apparatus to help him for a week with it.
An 18 year old has gotten a bad case of it and this is all after we were told if you're young you'd be fine.

And then, we don't even know if it does any lasting damage.

I'm absolutely astounded by how quickly this has spread throughout the entire globe

The 30% hospitalization figure includes the first 80 positive cases who were all admitted to hospital regardless of their condition. Obviously as it was to quarantine them to stop infections.

I don't think enough people have been socially distancing properly unfortunately

I would say it has been pretty high. It definitely hasn't been flouted in the supermarkets and shops anyway (and there are virtually no indoor venues where people can congregate, which is good.....the places people are complaining about today were all outdoors).

Isn’t that already the law in Ireland ?

Already the smallest packets in the known world and they limit the sale of them to one at a time - and they are stupidly expensive. This country has lost the plot regarding pharmaceuticals. It also has on of the worst rates of access to low cost generic drugs in the OECD.

Handy tip - get a UK virtual address and shop online for medicines like aspirin and hay fever prophylactics. If you give an Irish address most online pharmacies won't sell you a packet of sweets, with a Uk address you can often buy multiples of what you need at far lower prices than in this clip joint.
