Remember if you are a young person with no underlying health condition, getting this virus doesn't mean you will be ok, there are younger people with no known health condition who have have died elsewhere.
Being young and healthy is not a guarantee one will be ok if they get the virus. It has to be taken seriously by all.

Working in a prison myself. It's a bit surreal. On the landings the prisoners are pretty much playing ball to be fair to them. But in exercise yards and recreation halls they're acting the b*llox because it's just themselves out there. There's also plenty of uncertainty among staff as to what the plan is if there's an outbreak. There's proposals to take shifts in blocks of 2 weeks solid on campus and things like that. It's another world in there that you mightn't think of but life has to go on.

Can I ask do you know the type of prisoners they released last week? We’re the 200 mostly elderly?

Gardai having to attend numerous spots today around the country and man carparks because popular areas were rammed packed with wholly selfish cúnts - Bettystown, Clogherhead, Glendalough, Lahinch are examples of places I saw reports from. Meanwhile, the rest of us are actually suffering or sacrificing something during this pandemic for the greater good, even if we don't have the virus ourselves, even if we're not frontline workers, even if we might not be in a high risk demographic.

That was a cracker of a day, it's been a decent week as far as Irish weather in March goes. It definitely crossed my own mind this weekend for us to go on a hike in some place like Glendalough or Carlingford. It's the OH's birthday this weekend, I was due to work for it until my industry got obliterated this week, and it would have been nice to do something outdoors in that weather and clear the minds.

Not worth it though, not with the very large potential downside in play. I'm not looking for a medal or an invitation to the Áras here, just for us all not to be such fúckin eejits - selfish, ignorant or otherwise. Also, don't unnecessarily stretch our frontline personnel at their most testing time, maybe don't have them acting as the most over qualified parking attendants in the country.

Never mind a lockdown from the Army and Gardai, we just don't have the numbers for a nationwide lockdown China-style. No, what this apparently requires is Mother Nature's intervention - Good ol' Irish gloomy-arse grey cloud and drizzle for the next two months. Along with the Gardai and Army, it would be like an invaluable third wing to our defense forces during this crisis.

On a related note - Great to see the number of Irish cases stable but more importantly, ICU cases and deaths remaining relatively low so far. Still, I can't help but see the reports of this promising news as a double-edged sword. People hear this and think 'sure we have this virus beaten/under control', then flock to the beach, or relax any social distancing methods they might have employed.

Nope. Pure entitlement - it's extremely selfish to take any action to spread the virus to a community you don't live in. These rural areas should be able to delay the virus as much as possible, and they are vastly less well-served by medical facilities than Dublin. These communities stand to suffer hugely and are already making sacrifices. I can't even go home to my family and when I see entitled people with more money than civic sense are carelessly going to my area without any regard for the people who live there, it boils my blood.

I suppose you could also say that if you want to cough on fruit and vegetables in the supermarket, you have every right to do so, because you're a customer?

OMG you waited 6 years to make your first post. All it took was a global pandemic.

    :pac::pac::pac:

That lad is getting a lot of hammering and it's not very fair. I'm not a fan of him. He was trying to make some sort of a point that didn't come across very well. He was arguing that some places will need to stay open like DIY shops so people at home isolating themselves or maintaining social distancing can keep occupied and he gave two examples of painting/DIY and gardening. You could probably add in a list of other shops that could help people during this time like bookshops and craft shops.

More likely that one of his constituents owns a big hardware store and asked if he'd put in a good word in the Dáil

When every country is in lock down, is that when Poo Bear's going to attack?

I'm just gonna leave a large pot of honey out, that should distract him.

"Lied to the world about this virus for a long time".

Right now, I'm not a fan of China or their practices and their wet markets and I'm certainly not going to defend them here. There's a few things that don't sit well with me. I don't think they lied about this virus for a long time. My understanding is that some people started showing up in hospitals in December showing signs of chest problems and pneumonia. It was in January when it was discovered that there's a new virus with a new pathogen. They really didn't have a long time to lie to the world about this virus.

So what in your opinion constitutes a long time when you're dealing with a virus growing exponentially and the potential for a global pandemic?

Can I ask do you know the type of prisoners they released last week? We’re the 200 mostly elderly?

From my own landing the few that got out were all near to the end of their sentence anyway, things like a few weeks left, maybe a couple of months at most. One had a medical condition. None of them in for violent crime. All of them with exemplary disciplinary records. Age didn't seem to be a factor.

If food shops can be kept open so can hardware/diy/garden centre.

Apart from the gardening/diy side of the business normal house repair and maintenance will need to continue.

For instance if repairs are needed after a storm.

Sorry I don't share your thoughts on our 'stable' figures.
I think the slow uptake and delay with testing atm is giving us a skewed view of our current status. We're way in deeper than what you think. I'm concerned once we get testing our huge backlog which is roughly 40 thousand people and whatever is after that the numbers of infected is going to shoot up.
Already they're saying hospitals are beginning to feel the pressure

No, it'd be telling the truth.

Young people in their 20's are being hit hard by this, it won't be the walk in the park they're currently enjoying.

But the overwhelming tone was those under 60 or 50 were effectively immune.
    This isn't so.

Keep open as many businesses as possible that can carry out transactions in a safe manner.

DIY is essential, the houses in this country will be in great shape come Summer
