Ya , I tend to agree here. It's a big "if" a vaccine can be developed, don't see many vaccines to existing coronaviruses.

Then if u step back and think , will take least 12 months to develop and test. Then you need to mass produce it on a phenomenal scale.
Likely would be a US company that did develop it , so imagine how they make it available to countries.

Best case I think "if" vaccine is developed , will be 2 years

2 years is hardly the "best case", now is it.

Some people like to see the world burn I suppose. I think though with the massive amounts of money invested in this the vaccine will be produced much faster than normal.

One of the U.K deaths was an 18 year old :(
Might drive home a message to some of those think they are bullet proof.

Dublin at 402 cases and Cork at 101, with the next highest being Galway at 25 so a big difference between Dub/Cork and the rest. This is up to 20th March

Population density and also more tests though not nearly enough in Dublin and Cork.

This tells me that a) we are only testing those on the high end of the symptoms spectrum and b) there are hundreds if not thousands of asymptomatic spreaders out there.

    Stay at home people please!

That's 177 since the start isn't it ?. At the start everyone was being brought into hospital. Group of 6 with no symptoms tested positive and spent 7 days in the mater.

Yes is the answer to that question, but your not going here any positivity in here. We all know it could change but **** me a bit of positivity wouldnt kill us, someone else is after posting there may be no vaccine, I mean what kind of horsehit is that.

Not trying to upset anyone. It is a fact that the development of a vaccine is not guaranteed.

I am a positive person within the framework of actual reality. The cases have not been jumping up 30% for the last three days, that is very positive news.

Is some of the hospitalisations just for to self isolate as cannot at home, crowded, sharing etc., could some closed hotels be used for this?

We are testing any and all who contact a GP with a cough or a fever.

We can’t do anymore than that.

There was no vaccines to other corona viruses because funding was pulled, as it died. Of course there will be a vaccine, if an American company does develop it, do you really think they will keep it for Americans. It's all about money, it will be mass produced around the world.

Seems the lady responsible for half the coronavirus cases in Uruguay was made into a viral meme (no pun intended) and is nationally hated. Can we do that for any of the self-centred spreaders here?

or... they are hospitalising people out of an abundance of caution. only 3% critical according to worldometer.

I see so much idiots shopping around wearing gloves. Am I the only one who sees that as a complete waste. The shopping trolley they push around could have the virus on the handle and you're only transferring what's on the trolley to what you touch and buy.

Gloves are only useful for cleaning, for opening door handles, pressing the buttons in elevators and on pedestrian crossings.

I was in Cornelscourt yesterday and used the bathroom. I washed my hands and was drying them at the machine by the door.
A lady exited a stall and went to walk straight out of the bathroom. I said "Sorry, I really think you should wash your hands". She replied (while lifting them up to show), "it doesn't matter, I'm wearing gloves!". I said that's even worse then, but was told to mind my own business.
We were both leaving at the same time and in the corridor I asked her again to please wash her hands. She ignored me.
Out in the public area she started coughing on her gloved hand. This really triggered me and I shouted after her. I very audibly called that she had used the bathroom, not washed and was now coughing on her gloves. It did attract a bit of attention and people seemed horrified (by her thankfully, not me).
She continued on, not giving a fuk, collected her trolley and wheeled out of the shopping center.

No idea what germs she could have been spreading. But it's OK for her, cause SHE was wearing gloves.

Based on performance Harris is only member of government in whom I still have any confidence.

Video he tweeted is excellent (though it still propagates the elderly meme), should be shown repeatedly on all national media.

Even better would be an indigenous production employing same graphical techniques but omitting 'elderly' meme.

that's playing out to already established statistics for this pandemic: 80% mild (up to and including pnuemonia which doesn't require hospitalisation), 20% require hospitalisation of which 5% will end up in intensive care.

up to 2% of all infections will die...so we're doing well on the deaths so far but early days.

Yes I do think people thinking a vaccine will fix this soon are a bit burying there head n sand about it.

Good article here by Guardian on vaccine.
If people think a vaccine is going to appear soon and magically fix this, I'd read this first:

I was walking on Keel beach in Achill on this beautiful Sunday afternoon. Was a lot of people on the beach but aside from family groups no one was violating even recommended indoor space requirements. What kind of creep walks beside a stranger on a beach anyway?

Don't understand the logic of feeling safe 2 meters away from a queue in Lidl, yet walking on a breezy Atlantic beach is dangerous?

Perhaps the first impact of the Lombardy lockdown - new cases in that region halved compared to yesterday:
