    Just a question
People thinking that the milder sunnier weather will kill this virus?
Is it not Summer in Australia?
How is the virus doing there?

Australia is in southern hemisphere. Their cycle is reverse. Winter over there.

A good example will be Malaysia and India.

Bergamo - a population of 120k had had over 2,000 deaths alone.

That's where the 15 Italians had come from that tested positive here last week (after flying in for Ryanair flight attendant training). Had one of them not got sick immediately on arriving they could have all went out socializing as many places where still open.

why were they allowed back into work?

They never said they were away in Europe. They mentioned it in passing the other day and everyone flipped, told them to get home instantly.

Probably doesn't have it but, **** me
It doesn't help with paranoia either because I've had a tickle in my throat the last few weeks and it's developing into a very small little chest cough...Normal but, **** like that doesn't help

Does anyone think that they’re getting us so used to this social distancing business because this is the way it’s going to be until a vaccine is developed ? Restrictions on schools may be lifted in the coming months however I think social distancing is here to stay , it’ll be the new way of life until a vaccine comes about.

Yes China which is supposedly out of the woods still has social distancing in place and no mass gatherings. Not back to normality by a long shot.

People just going "we need a lockdown" and nothing more are being a right dose too.

It would be great to see that level of increase continue as the CMO said yesterday.
Still big numbers if we get 100+ daily for 3 or 4 weeks ...a lot lower than expected but still big numbers. Could health services cope with those numbers .

Norway's "full lockdown" is basically exactly the same as what we've been doing?

it depends on how many need hospitalization, I suppose.

Dublin at 402 cases and Cork at 101, with the next highest being Galway at 25 so a big difference between Dub/Cork and the rest. This is up to 20th March

It seems a more manageable level for them. You'd also hope that the numbers would fall off in 3-4 weeks.

    Dr. Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health, said;

“Cases confirmed today were most likely exposed to COVID-19 prior to the introduction of the public health measures implemented on Friday, 13 March.

Number of tests is a function of triaging by GPs, and emergency admissions, nothing else.

We have a backlog of approved tests, we have a backlog of processing test, we have a backlog of confirmed tests.

Once those backlogs work their way through the system, there will be irregular jumps in confirmed case from day to day cases.

    It's not telling us anything.

COVID-19 ICU bed occupancy is now the only meaningful metric in this country.

Ya , I tend to agree here. It's a big "if" a vaccine can be developed, don't see many vaccines to existing coronaviruses.

Then if u step back and think , will take least 12 months to develop and test. Then you need to mass produce it on a phenomenal scale.
Likely would be a US company that did develop it , so imagine how they make it available to countries.

Best case I think "if" vaccine is developed , will be 2 years

The testing postivite ratio at the moment is around 8% - 9% (900 cases / around 10,000+ tests). As the backlog of the 40,000 cases is worked through, we will see a significant increase in numbers. Given testing criteria was relaxed in the last week or so, I would assume testing would be around 4% positive. That means there's potentially around 1,600 positive cases in the waiting...

I am not sure what this proves, as the 15,000 was a "business as usual" case anyway. And, given the then numbers, was likely. Still might be likely even in recorded cases, except delayed by a few days.

Of course Leo might have been talking about the real number, rather than the recorded number. I bet that figure is way in excess of 15,000 even now.

Are we the only country in Europe that seems to be keeping the numbers down?

Yes is the answer to that question, but your not going here any positivity in here. We all know it could change but **** me a bit of positivity wouldnt kill us, someone else is after posting there may be no vaccine, I mean what kind of horsehit is that.

That would explain the low numbers at the moment,by next Friday we will see the Clear picture
