651 new deaths in Italy in last 24 hours.:( Jesus. Is there no end to it?

They are starting to flatten the curve. While still shocking, I would consider today's figures to be positive.

Over 7000 new cases in New York alone today.

    Terrifying.

Has anyone got a regional breakdown for Italy.

Is it still concentrated in the North as much or has it spread a lot.

USA +8594 so far. Starting to sky rocket

Yet someone was here yesterday saying the USA wouldn't get that bad and wouldn't listen to reason

651 deaths in Italy over last 24 hours - down a bit on yesterday which was over 700.

Quite a lot down, it was just under 800 yesterday.

Good news me hole. What's that tweeter smoking.

One drop in deaths is not a trend. That happened already, only to go back right up the next day. Followed by up and up and up.

UK are to urge the vulnerable to stay at home for "at least 12 weeks" starting this week.

Just looking at how busy the parks and public areas in Dublin are today, I think it is inevitable that much stricter measures will be imposed as the week goes on. We had our chance to self-isolate without restrictions and unfortunately too many people have failed to comply.

Parks are absolutely thronged. People have the best of intentions, but it is impossible to maintain social distance along footpaths and entrances if the parks are packed out.

Totally agree. I have long held the view that some people just cant help but do the opposite of what they are asked to do. This whole crisis is going to be a massive social experiment. I hope people can (re) learn a lot of good values from it. But, based on parks, beaches, supermarket q's, some pubs still open, house parties, etc., I am not going to hold my breath.

Said it this morning, US is the one to watch now. It's the 'new Italy'.

UK press conference ongoing at the moment.

They're asking older and vulnerable people to self-isolate for 12 weeks.

EDIT: I thought it was months at first, had to play it back. That would have been extreme!

The UK authorities do seem to be getting a good grip on things now after initial inaction. Positive to see.

Statistically today has been a better day for Italy. Loss of life is still horrendous, but the drop in new cases may be significant. Below 10% now. Is there a faintest hint of light at the end of the tunnel for Italy? A long long way to go.

It's mainly due to new York mayor wanting to test people is say. If the same situation applied across the US I'd say we would see +20k a day easily, especially along the east and west coast.

Deaths worry me more than confirmed cases. Many of the latter have mild symptoms.

But of course more cases means more deaths too.

True, but a huge number become complacent.

Stopping for a coffee or ice cream...
    Popping in for petrol.
All of a sudden, you're in a queue or indoor environment.
Or outdoors with a large group.

    It can't continue.

This was my point. But a lot of people (like me) went to the beach, walked with my family in close contact but kept our distance from everyone else. Sanatized when we got back in out car and went home back into our isolated house. Social distancing is what it says it is, keeping your distance from other people to prevent the virus spreading.

It doesn't mean don't go anywhere anybody else is because that means the virus will spread. I can only speak for what I observed today and that was every family kept their distance from other families.

Something that seems to have disappeared and was never questioned, or ridiculed...

You needed to spend 15 minutes in the company of someone with the virus...

It’s gone from that, to stop saying “hello” to people..

    What was it all about?

I remember first hearing of the 15 minutes contact and thinking, wtf is this about?

That was my view too. There's a level of urgency and alarm to it that would just not suit most people and the unintended consequence of freaking others out. I'm happy to follow the more relaxed general guidelines.:)

Going to be having nightmares about that thread for the next few days now.

5476 deaths in Italy. That is a really really grim . I can only imagine the despair in Italy right now.

I really hope it gets absolutely no where near that level here in Ireland.

Bergamo - a population of 120k had had over 2,000 deaths alone. Imagine that in Cork. It'd be similar to 20,000 deaths in Dublin. Tragic .

Multiply all numbers by 10,that is the real number of cases.
    :(

Excellent position? 40,000 waiting for tests, not enough kits available to test them all. Flights still flying in from the uk and France and all over.

The numbers who have this are huge, way bigger than the official figures. fg have ****ed this up big style.

Whatever point you're making has been made. Leave it at that eh!

Looks to me that you're more concerned for party politics that anything else. Nothing but crocodile tears..

It should do though. It has 330 million people.

    Italy has 60 million.

I've been doing online grocery shopping for a few years because it's so handy. Mainly with Tesco. Sometimes I might go with SuperValu but that's rare. Sometimes I might go into a bricks and mortar shop like Aldi or Dunnes. For the most part, I love the Tesco online shopping. I've never seen anything like this since I started with online grocery ordering. I can't get an available delivery slot for another two weeks. I logged onto the SuperValu site and it's the same there. The next available slot is the 4th of April. I wish Dunnes would do the online grocery shopping and it would be great of Aldi and Lidl could do the same.

I presume this virus is to blame for this.

It might be a bit premature to make that conclusion. If the figures go down for a few days in row , then it is looking likely the lockdown measures have worked in slowing it down.

Hopefully they'll pass peak fatalities soon and a time difference with peak new cases established. Can that be taken as a consideration?

There were some small dips over the last few weeks and then the numbers sky rocketed again. At what point could you say that the curve is being flattened with any degree of confidence?

Yeah it's one day. Not a sign of a pattern at all.

It already has, all the bridges have been closed in New York. This is like the Dark Night rises

State. Not just parts of NYC.
