AN IRISH man who attended the Cheltenham racing festival two weeks ago has tested positive for Covid-19.

The man - who is based in the south - is not seriously ill and has not
required hospitalisation.

However, he has been told to remain in strict self-isolation.

Is there any indication that Ireland will close its borders, especially to the UK? I believe the UK is going to be one of the worst affected countries (densely populated, poorly handled) yet we have no restrictions on movement from this much larger country on our doorstep.

While that might be a little annoying it really won't slow up the queue to any great extent.

The person doing it might be of a nervous disposition or suffer from ODC.

People say that now but it is presumably a violation of the GFA to close the borders with Britain, which would involve a border on the island.

Not much Ireland could do when the UK continued to not isolate, or self distance.

For those talking about 80% mild cases, the actual line given is "mild to MODERATE", and moderate can involve being pretty ill.

Hope I'm not repeating what others have said.
Just back from my local Dunnes stores. Well managed small queue outside waiting for entry. Inside the door a table with anti-bacterial spray, plastic gloves and rolls of tissue. I sprayed the trolley handle, wiped it dry and wore gloves whole time.
Thin well spread crowd inside and fully stocked shelves. No sense of urgency let alone panic. No queues at the checkout.
I was impressed.
I understand this is replicated elsewhere and with other stores.
If so it's another example of how we Irish adjust in a wonderful way to difficult times without a fuss.
Compare the UK headlines about how British spirits of WW2, blitz, etc is highlighted in their papers as how they'll get through this while in reality much of the population runs amok in supermarkets with a totally selfish approach.

The video of the Spanish doctor saying that respirators were being taken from over 65 s and given to younger patients was very sad. The over 65s were sedated and died.

I heard that my local Tesco was mobbed and sold out of everything.
I was therena few minutes later. Loads of stock toilet roll, meat, bread, etc.
There was more people there I think I waited less that 5 minutes in a queue.
The guy was just desperate for attention to get likes.

Not necessarily, the number went to 12 in the last briefing, briefing stats on covid that we get daily are at least 2 days behind. We were steady at 6 for a good few days.

The only up to date number we get given daily is test cases confirmed.

It's gone from 6 to 29 in the space of about 10 days.

Wouldn't be surprised if that 29 included the 14 that tested positive from a nursing home. Would account for the quick rise.

Spoke to my cousin in London last night, my Aunty (his ma) has it and is in hospital, she's 65 and in very bad health anyway so not looking great.

Whats so sad is that his ma is all he's got now apart from extended family, none of whom live in London, and he's not even allowed to visit her
