Mayor of Bergamo says deaths in Italy at least four times higher than official estimates due to elderly people dying at home , no ambulances to take them to hospitals or capacity to test them

Not the kind of news we want

Thousands in this country have already contracted COVID19 and recovered

The amount of people experiencing shortness of breath over past 2 weeks including myself is unreal

But presumably everyone in a coronavirus hospital has it so why the need for so much empty space?

Presumably every patient has it... but hopefully nor all the staff have it. More space around beds hopefully means staff don't get any closer than they have to be

Donald Trump is an asshole, IMO, but there are hundreds of millions of sound people in America who have been let down by the administration.

Trump called for a travel ban from and to China at the end of January, Biden and the dems called that ' racism '. Could you image how worse it would be if Biden and the dems were in the Whitehouse ?

See your point , though think it’s extreme disinfecting the shopping . Though yes what if some one handled the tin of beans , then put it back on shelf ?? Where do we stop over analyzing.

I too realized today that I returned to car with gloves on , took out keys , opened boot put in the shop. Afterward realized need to take gloves off when you exit the supermarket if you’ve cleaned the trolley on entering. So I sprayed the handles cleaned keys etc but yet I handling change . I really don’t know the answer . We can only do our best

you need 2 sets of gloves...put first set on before leaving car. do shopping. when come out of the supermarket, bring trolley to car, take off first set, take out keys and unlock and open boot, then put on second set to offload groceries from trolley and return trolley to bay. your keys or car handles don't get infected this way. dispose of both sets of gloves in bin outside supermarket. then disinfect grocery bags in boot or when you get home etc...i keep a spray bottle in my boot. you could even spray bags while they were still sitting in trolley to avoid contaminating car.

i don't find this stuff ocd at all. if you were working in a lab or intensive care unit, you'd have to follow same type of procedures to avoid contamination. it's all just very logical to me. a lot of people in ireland work in pharma companies. they must go through the same rigmarole daily in work so should be kind of used it.

Have we enough test kits to send directly to all households, then mail back to nearest lab freepost, could An Post cope or is this a stupid idea :o
No it's not a stupid idea at all, availability of test kits and more importantly labs to process them is the problem. Like everything, in time...

We currently have 800 cases, Do you honestly think it will be 3,000 in 10 days?

Based on our current figures we should have something between 12-15k by month end . Scary stuff

Is it maybe to stop viral load? Only thing I can think of - don't want the guy next to you infecting you even more and possibly with a different strain (tho I don't profess to know if that would have any bearing on it)

No beside locker or light, no chair, just an oxygen bottle. Anyone brought in here will be in a pretty bad way. It's a sobering thought.

I have a dry tickling throat. Feels like the effect from drinking dry cider. Had 8 cans last night, so that could be it. Had a few glasses of hot water today and that induced phlegm. Got rid of.

Energy level grand. Was up and about doing some spring cleaning. Did a light 5 Km run.

I doubt it's due to the novel coronavirus.

00:45 22 March 2020. Had 1.5 bottles of red wine. Two different types. Throat and chest irritation significantly reduced. Either wine reduced the irrigation, so likely not Cov19 symptoms.

Thankfully, not based on the last few days, we won't.

Let's see in the day or two if the trend accelerates.

If that's true there's something seriously wrong there. It's not replicated anywhere else. Not even a suggestion

Mother Earth has obviously decided to do something about the way the human population has been mistreating her. A major realignment of the global population is on the way.

"Not the kind of news we want" as in it makes the death toll worse in Italy if they cannot even test people dying that likely have it

Yeah but unless you are given a vaccine (18 months off) or develop immunity, you’ll be doing this for a while!!

I mean the population is 1.2B. But yeh, those that are already sick will get sicker if they catch this. Whether it devastates the continent is another thing. I bet that Africa will do much better than Europe, proportionally.

And isnt that a good thing?

I hope they do but not hard to see a million deaths with those types of illnesses. That's still devastation

The USA has a population 5-6 times of many countries in Europe. By definition it should have 5-6 times the number of infected cases. If you look at number of cases per million the USA is on 79, whereas Spain is 545, Italy 886, Germany 267 etc.

Trump will be blamed for this no matter what, and absolutely he deserves some criticism, but the US aren't doing any worse than some countries in Europe, I'd argue they're doing better than the UK with 75 million now under lockdown, closing schools much earlier. Their mortality rate is also quite good for its population so far. He didn't engage in nonsense herding like Boris did. If Trump deserves blame so do a lot other world leaders therefore.

And anyone who thinks if a democrat were in charge and would've avoided the stock market collapsing, a recession and huge job losses are no more than a partisan hack. That doesn't mean Trump is the right man for the crisis right now, far from it, I'm not confident in him either.

But those who are calling it the #trumpvirus and the "Trump pandemic" cynically cheering this on so they can get their beloved democrats are quite shameful. Bill Maher wanted a mass recession so perhaps he's got his wish.

everything becomes routine after you've done it a couple of times. how long does it take to put on a pair of gloves? rather do that than play russian roulette with my health.

there's a new normal coming for everyone during and after this.

What do you have in the spray bottle and how do you know it's effective against Covid-19?

    Serious question.

Based on a 1.3 increase, yes, but Italy went from 889 (feb 28) to 9172 (mar 9)
The 1.3 rate seems iffy, between the first and second case it's 2.0 which seems to skew figures.
America went from 704 (mar 9) to 13,786 (mar 19)
It seems the clusters are more a factor. (mainly 1 in Italy compared to a dozen in the US)
We may see Cork and Dublin increasing alot more but the rest of the country following much more slowly.

They weren't even testing people til this last week - the criteria even now is still quite strict to get a test. Think one day, was it this week or last, they only did something like 70 tests in one day for the whole country.
It is gonna blow up in the next week - already blowing up in NY
