I've seen a few posts on facebook from parents saying they're "driven demented" already for the kids being off school, do parents even fcuking like their kids? Any wonder you're seeing plenty around still.

Problem is they closed the schools but didn't say the kids should be kept at home and the parents fined if they were found in gangs on street corners etc., It was obvious this was going to happen.

I lived in a housing estate in Louth 2 years ago and had to move cos of constant anti social behavior from teenagers. Every Summer we would dread the arrival of the summer holidays.

I could see this coming a mile off

And after a while when they get really bored the problem really escalates

Number of new cases appears to be decreasing each day? Too early to celebrate yet. A decrease in restrictions ould cause a spike

We need to see numbers drop for a week or more before I'll start getting excited. And even then social separation is the new norm. We might get lucky and be able to keep it in check here. but while the rest of the world has it there can be no going back to normal. A vaccine is the only way I see this going away.

We will know 2 weeks from now when they start putting bodies out. It always ends with that.

I'm sure not many people even believe or trust the Chinese death figures.

These testing numbers are just annoying. Largely meaningless. For them to be meaningful, you would have to test the entire population every day. Testing should only be used to confirm infection because of presented symptoms. They are not a count of 'infected'

Far far too early to start celebrating. If the percentage of new cases is falling weekly, then that is significant. Daily numbers are not an indication of a lot.

As an aside; I live in a big town in the west, in a county that has less than 5 cases. From what I have seen, very few people are ignoring guidelines - there is social distance in supermarket queues, in pharmacies, and in Currys this morning it was like being in a military zone - very weird (but probably sensible).

Lots of masks, people with scarfs over their faces, a sense of a lot of fear - again, probably justifiable..

Saw several groups of young ones (20s, not teens) drinking on the bank of the river today.

Rage overcame me and I called them all f*ckwits and told them to go home. Doubt my approach helped tbh, I was just so angry in the moment at their selfishness.

But hopefully they will reconsider doing the same thing tomorrow.

The key number surely will be established when they develop a test to show who has had it. It might be that loads of us have.....a huge multiple of those reported. Until we see that number it’s really hard to know the trajectory of this. It a large number of us (many tens or into the hundreds of thousands) have had this already, then I’m confident that the lockdown will not have to last long. And we’ll finally know the denominator for the death rate calculation.

That doesn’t have any bearing, of course, on the absolute number of people being admitted to the ICU now and over coming days. But it would tell a lot about our trajectory

I just dont get how anyone can predict anything until we have that number. Everything is a guess

The 102 number is not today's results, taking my own experience into account, I developed symptoms last Sunday and requested a test then, I was finally tested on Friday morning and I'm still waiting on the results. We could be 7 - 8 days behind in reality which is very worrying. There is not enough information on what days the results are covering.

I thought you are only contacted back if positive with in 48 hours

Dublin is epicentre in Ireland, and it's opened up to the rest of the country, that's not cool. Dublin needs a lockdown and to stop the flights from UK and europe. We could end this quick with those two things, will drag on for months if we don't.

So is Cork. Both cities need to be on lockdown ASAP.

You could theoretically impose a 3 week total lockdown where no one even gets out the front door and basically burn off the virus but it would mean no one getting on to this island for 2 years minimum. So no flights or ferries, only freight and that would have to sit for 48hrs to be 100% sure that nothing is carried on it. No truck drivers on or off either. Are we willing to do that?

It's probably too late now. Dubs absolutely don't care about the distancing rules. It's business as normal, packed cafe when I walk out.
    It will end like Wuhan...

If enough of us did this it might have some effect. Worth a try anyway...

That’s just not true. You are living in a different Dublin

More likely they are falling behind on testing.

On that optimistic note..I really have no idea why Italy is so bad. It’s frightening what has happened in Lombardy in such a short time frame.

Cork from what I see is as good as locked down. Anything more is unwarranted at this stage. Businesses are trading still while practicing social distancing and those that can't have just closed. Compliance is largely high.

I really doubt they are dead bodies, now of course I don't know for sure but apparently they are people sleeping outside because they got kicked out of their apartments as they were suspected of having the virus.

One of the reasons I doubt these are bodies because china can build a hospital for 7,000 people in a few days, so surely they could built a basic building to store the bodies in less than a day.

Of the 13 in ICU here do we have info regarding their age & medical history?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,005 ✭✭✭iggy

What's the total number of ICU beds we have available?

    Is it 300?
And has any more been made available

You'd need another 30000 days solid where there were 1000 deaths recorded in order to reach 30m dead.

    That's only 82 thousand years.

Problem is we want people except the elderly and those with underlying issues to get this virus but not all at once. This buys us time for our health service to cope.

There is sellotape on the floors of some supermarkets to keep people apart I mean what more can be done.;)
It's like Monty Python or something. Tesco packed shoulder-to-shoulder, only place people stay apart is at checkout because of the lines on the floor.:)

785 cases in Ireland... How is this possible? We were letting in plane loads of people from Italy? There should be more. Or are symptoms really that mild in most of us?

Do the public need this info? Is it purely to satisfy your curiosity, or is there a genuine need? Patients still deserve to have their privacy protected insofar as possible.

Intermittent lockdowns followed by easing of measures to gradually increase population immunity while managing overall numbers.

Continue for 12 to 18 months until we, hopefully, will have a vaccine.
