When I read stuff like that, our government need to immediately:
Shut down passenger flights to and from the UK as people coming from there are clearly not isolating.
Shut down civilian ferry traffic to the UK and France.
Limit travel to and from Dublin as much as possible.

Without draconian measures we could see an explosion in cases and deaths in the next few weeks.

Our lockdown is a complete farce especially the travellers to and from the UK.

The number of people who die from this outside of a hospital is going to be negligible. It does not seem to be a fast killer.

The problem is - the hospitals are full. Italy experienced that tsunami “peak” very rapidly.

Divert as much possible resources to testing in the large urban areas, over 40% of the country is rural that matters and anyone dismissing population density as a reason why we aren't ****ed are ignorant.
England has about 10% rural population.

Be positive guys, our government acted swiftly and appropriately. It will be weeks before the social distance measures yield results aswell.

Test test test, isolate isolate isolate. That is the only way to beat this back.

We need to see numbers drop for a week or more before I'll start getting excited. And even then social separation is the new norm. We might get lucky and be able to keep it in check here. but while the rest of the world has it there can be no going back to normal. A vaccine is the only way I see this going away.

These testing numbers are just annoying. Largely meaningless. For them to be meaningful, you would have to test the entire population every day. Testing should only be used to confirm infection because of presented symptoms. They are not a count of 'infected'

Far far too early to start celebrating. If the percentage of new cases is falling weekly, then that is significant. Daily numbers are not an indication of a lot.

As an aside; I live in a big town in the west, in a county that has less than 5 cases. From what I have seen, very few people are ignoring guidelines - there is social distance in supermarket queues, in pharmacies, and in Currys this morning it was like being in a military zone - very weird (but probably sensible).

Lots of masks, people with scarfs over their faces, a sense of a lot of fear - again, probably justifiable..

Rage overcame me and I called them all f*ckwits and told them to go home. Doubt my approach helped tbh, I was just so angry in the moment at their selfishness.

But hopefully they will reconsider doing the same thing tomorrow.

The key number surely will be established when they develop a test to show who has had it. It might be that loads of us have.....a huge multiple of those reported. Until we see that number it’s really hard to know the trajectory of this. It a large number of us (many tens or into the hundreds of thousands) have had this already, then I’m confident that the lockdown will not have to last long. And we’ll finally know the denominator for the death rate calculation.

That doesn’t have any bearing, of course, on the absolute number of people being admitted to the ICU now and over coming days. But it would tell a lot about our trajectory

I just dont get how anyone can predict anything until we have that number. Everything is a guess

You could theoretically impose a 3 week total lockdown where no one even gets out the front door and basically burn off the virus but it would mean no one getting on to this island for 2 years minimum. So no flights or ferries, only freight and that would have to sit for 48hrs to be 100% sure that nothing is carried on it. No truck drivers on or off either. Are we willing to do that?

On that optimistic note..I really have no idea why Italy is so bad. It’s frightening what has happened in Lombardy in such a short time frame.

Cork from what I see is as good as locked down. Anything more is unwarranted at this stage. Businesses are trading still while practicing social distancing and those that can't have just closed. Compliance is largely high.

I really doubt they are dead bodies, now of course I don't know for sure but apparently they are people sleeping outside because they got kicked out of their apartments as they were suspected of having the virus.

One of the reasons I doubt these are bodies because china can build a hospital for 7,000 people in a few days, so surely they could built a basic building to store the bodies in less than a day.
