I don't think so.

We have a whole thread on people still waiting for a test and while some msy be full of it and just complaining about the government, services and general trolling, people are still genuinely waiting for a test, we are getting results based on a number of days ago (open to correction on this) and the number of tests due to increase.

I think we might see higher numbers in the future, but hopefully the measures employed so far and people actually adhering to them will help and that the numbers we seen for the last two days aren't seen as a reason for people to think everything is OK and not do what is needed.

Two days in a row we have a lower number of new cases. Brilliant. Fair play to everyone making sacrifices and a tremendous effort to flatten the curve. Hopefully this continues now and complacency doesn't start to kick in. Keep up the fight!

Please stop. Italy had 3 days in a row with a plateau a week ago. There are so many variables. Slightly positive but no need for hyperbole.

Seeing as though there is a 4 to 5 day wait to get a test and a 3-5 day wait now for your result what day are these 102 new cases for? I mean if you got a test Wednesday in Croke Park there might not be a result until 2moro or Monday. So when were the tests for today’s results carried out? Last Monday, Tuesday???? Or maybe these are straight away results for people in hospital already.....I don’t know.

4-6 days was and is possible in the community, 12 hours in a hospital setting. Your one month claim would also have to include people, where the virus has come and gone. You do seem a bit disappointed with the total.

TBH, this means nothing unless testing has been hugely ramped up. I know someone who's GP had been trying to get a test for a week before they finally got tested on Thursday. They were told it would be next week for results.

I think Dr Honaghan said last night that the figures can be a bit jumpy because of the way the different labs report their findings to them i think it has to go through the notifiable diseases protocols which can delay things. My big worry is that people see a drop in the rate of growth and think we've beaten it and can go back to normal

I can't remember what I projected this time last week in my Excel chart for today, think it was 1,200.

But the data set is so flawed and any interpretation can be contrued as a misinterpretation.

The flaws are
It's mostly hospital worthy cases so far
Testing from the ramp up hasn't been fully seen yet
The virus will always be 5-14 days ahead

My understanding is that they are only closing the external borders of the EU though? (which is stupid as within those borders you have countries with different strategies including the infamous herd immunity one - it only makes sense to lock borders around areas with a uniform and tough internal strategy)

Some countries are closing internal EU borders at their own initiative, but I don't believe this is an EU wide thing.

Or did I get that wrong?

102 is good. But we probably had a few hundred arrive in from affected areas by plane today, they won’t show in the numbers for another 10 days or so.

Shutting the pubs down in Dublin to allow people have a few scoops in London Friday night and come home for the weekend is just so feckless

It's not going to happen, unless it becomes politically unsustainable for the Government, flights between UK and Ireland will continue to operate at a reduced schedule. Was the advice to Leo about 15000 potential cases a worse case scenario? If it's well below that figure it's of course very good fror us all, and it will probably ensure a big rise in support for Fine Gael after this is all over.

As most have already said, nothing can be read into these figures, way too early and we are still at the stage of a very inconsistent pattern.

As an aside however, as someone who has a child with an underlying condition, we are on week 3 of no school, so we were 2 weeks ahead of the official announcement and had restricted movements as soon as the first case occurred. There are a lot like us, so I'm just hopeful that had some positive effect on the at risk category.

On the point of golf - I don't know about 'golf courses being full' -but some do go out for a few holes under strict conditions as I did yesterday with my wife. We played just 6 holes and contravened no guidelines.The GUI have issued a list of clear directions to enable limited play continue. All competitions are cancelled.
Contact team sports are another ballgame -so to speak. It's a typical 'dog in the manger' attitude to resent anyone who fortuitously find themselves in a position of relative advantage in any small way.
In any case -those who play golf now would not necessarily be fully observant of the contact etiquette away from the course - at least when they are playing they are complying with the constraints in a controlled environment.
