Go to Tescos at opening time 7:00 or 8:00 am Monday, Wed or Friday.
Only over 65s allowed. Did it Friday was only a handful of older folk all very very careful and considerate. Shelves full etc.,

If 102 is correct, I think we are doing really well.

    If?
Of course it’s correct. It’s how many have tested positive

Anyways, I find it bizarre that people in Ireland are complaining about China while it's doing fuk all to stop the spread. Asia locked up shop when they realised what was happening and Europe hasn't. Surely the greater fault of a country is in its reaction to the crisis rather than the one citizen who started it.

    Well bloody said!

102 today. Thought it be away worse

If 102 is correct great time to close the country while we flatten this biatch

I feel sorry for all the ones that are newly diagnosed but it may be the case that the measures we're all taking are yielding results. Second consecutive drop and fingers X we will keep this momentum and flatten the curve. We should soon start seeing recovered numbers so hopefully the pressure on the system will be manageable

Surely 10000 tested can't be right?
Seems way to many are we really that good at testing
102 I'd also way lower than I expected,

This 102 today will put people into a false sense of security .. once people see lower numbers they automatically think we are out of the woods and social distancing will be less adhered.

102 is a good number, too early to make any assumptions regarding it.

Everyone has to keep doing their bit for the next 2-3 weeks still at a minimum until we see what stage we're at.

    But its promising

So what exactly does that prove? This came from China just like SARS and just like H5N1. I don't give a flying f**k how many people per capita are eating bats.

It came from China and it's has happened before.

We're in a right mess now and they're boasting about having it under control with no new cases. I don't believe that for a minute, not a chance it's under control.

I questioned this myself but seemingly the WHO have confirmed it to be true.

0 deaths today is the key stat I would have thought.

I feel so annoyed reading accounts of people out and about and taking days out and playdates with other families.
Its hugely frustrating to hear and see the sacrifices people are taking to make sure they dont spread it or to make sure ppl arent in fear of it. While others are out there almost flaunting it in others faces.

While 102 cases is decent, it's probably too early to say if the curve is flattening because we only implemented containment measures about a week ago.

Absolutely, but the number is very welcome. What we wouldn't have wanted to hear tonight is 200+ new cases.

They can really make the numbers say whatever they want, if they only tested 102 people today and they were all positive it would paint a completely different pic to testing 3500 and getting 102

Please god we're seeing the positive results of heightened awareness and then the shutdown starting to flatten the curve, as our testing is increasing significantly. We'll see, give it a few days worth of data, but really positive now to have two days where it's lower than the previous.

Just seen that 10,000 people were tested in Ireland. We already have 683 cases. Looks like a minimum (not counting todays figures) of 6.83% of the population have Coronavirus. That's about 330,000 people have it here and it's growing fast.
Italy has a mortality rate of 9%. Apply the same here and there could easily be nearly 30,000 deaths in Ireland alone from this. This looks like a huge moment in history.

Totally flawed logic. Those tested here so far had to be referred after showing symptoms so your applying the 6.83% ratio of cases to tests to the population as a whole is way out.

Also the age profile of Italian cases is much higher(probably because of testing only acute cases in many areas) .This renders their 9% mortality rate meaningless for comparative purposes.

Not correct. Only those with symptoms are tested. The prevalance is relatively low here buy growing.

If you are in an at risk category you might try to get someone to do the shopping for you if the home delivery is unavailable.

You're dead right, I did think that.. then I was trying to avoid putting pressure on others, but I should be grand now until Tesco arrive, judicious shopping helped so I'll cook smart and make do till then!

Apologise, I retract my statement. As other posters pointed out. The majority of the 10,000 tested showed symptoms so the 6.83% cannot be applied to the whole population. If 10,000 were picked at random it would be very alarming.

Don't get me wrong, it's good news, but if we want to have any idea of whether or not we are flattening the curve to any degree, we are going to have to wait a week before the relevant numbers start coming in.

I've been to China, worked with loads of Chinese people, have had very good friends from there.

It doesn't mean it's unacceptable to point the finger at the country who started all of this out of a blatant disregard for human life and health.

I'm tired of people pulling out the racism card to shirk responsibility for what their country has done.

Obviously picking on individuals is absolutely wrong and nobody should do that, but if I want to express my disgust towards the place and their culture, I will.

LOL it's like playing gob****e bingo. You make it too easy

That means 785 out of the 10,000 have the virus

We can and will complain about both, don’t know why you feel the need to be defensive. Expect a lot more focus on China during and after the crisis as it affects more and more people. There has been loads of complaints about our government too, they’re not exclusive.
