Doesn't seem to be a set time, I assume when they're ready, they're ready.

At least Richard Chambers said earlier that a weekend briefing would only be necessary if there was something extraordinary to report, so hopefully the figure won't be too drastic.

You've probably never even been to China...I've lived in China and I never met one person eating bats or anything. The weirdest thing I saw was duck blood but sure that's the same as black pudding.

The only people in China eating bats would be a few peasants from the countryside

Have a niece who is a nurse in a large hospital in the midlands UK, she just told me work has started to clear part of the car park so it can be used as a morgue. Grim.

Very odd format of that Wuhan programme on RTE News Now, it's like watching a medical conference call!

If you are in an at risk category you might try to get someone to do the shopping for you if the home delivery is unavailable.

Some young people do get very sick.

Yes they do, but lots of young people have underlying health issues, especially in the UK. Not the healthiest country in Europe by a long shot.

If you don't have the context for the info there's no point in worrying.

Two reasons. One, Italy has a disproportionate number of elderly people who are most at risk. More at-risk people equals more deaths. Two, Italy's health system makes ours look world class and Italy is broke.
Really? Italy and Ireland, have same order of magnitude '000 hospital beds and intensive care hospital care beds.

Don't have treatment outcome comparisons available, please post links substantiating your conclusions, or are they just apocryphal.

How many Chinese people do you think eat bats?

How many do doesn`t matter. The fact that at least one did, caught the virus and passed it on to others is why the planet is up ****e creek without a paddle now.

If you done some research you would see that it hasn't been proven that the virus originated from bats, that is just one possibly

About a billion of them I'd say

Flights have decreased a bit apparently over the past week but the skies are still full of planes going everywhere. Just log into Flightradar. I mean repatriation and cargo flights don't seem to cover it, what's going on? Thought skies would be largely clear by now?

There was 60,967 flights less in the skies yesterday compared to the same day in 2019.

10% less than last year for March so far.

Yes but its quite insightful what some of the Irish doctors are asking

We had 693 cases yesterday a rise of 30% would be another 207 cases

If China weren't such a large country, it would be one person in a regular country of say ten million who started it.

But it is a very large country and now the whole thing gets branded as "bat eaters"..

    Ground-up pangolin scales, reportedly.

No evidence of this whatsoever. It is likely it was passed from human via Pangolins.

Italy’s death toll today is tragic...

    Almost 800 people..

    What time is our update?

I can see it hitting 1000 a day sometime next week and staying that way for a while. It seems like hundreds of thousands have it in Italy and don't know it.

I think this attitude is extremely ignorant. A small minority of Chinese consume these types of food , less than 1%.

The way we some intensive pig farms in Ireland is not far off in terms of animal welfare to what you see in some of these markets. It is just well hidden from the public, out of sight and packaged in a nice wrapper and put on a shelf. Intensive chicken farming is equally as bad - have you ever seen the state of the battery caged chickens?

I believe that if this wasn’t caused by a wet market in China something similar would have happened at some point from the way we farm animals now.
Most countries treat animals like products when in fact they are living things similar to ourselves. They feel fear, they feel pain, they feel despair when we take their young and they carry disease

Where did you do your research

I've seen experts say they can identify it was from bats and even express certainty on when it jumped to humans based on its genetic signature.

I know nothing about it technically so looking to learn

Just seen that 10,000 people were tested in Ireland. We already have 683 cases. Looks like a minimum (not counting todays figures) of 6.83% of the population have Coronavirus. That's about 330,000 people have it here and it's growing fast.
Italy has a mortality rate of 9%. Apply the same here and there could easily be nearly 30,000 deaths in Ireland alone from this. This looks like a huge moment in history.

I wish I could cocoon myself for a a couple of weeks until the penny drops for these fcukers and everyone is taking it seriously.

I'd agree, cocooning seems like the goal if people can't wise up, so many not taking notice

As to losing the rag, haha, I hear you, that's pretty much what I was trying to avoid for my own sake. I'm a pacifist, until someone puts me, or the ones I care about in danger, and then I've got a serious temper and can get into it (verbally) with anyone if I need to.

I didn't wanna go postal on her, much as I felt I'd be in the right, as I would have been embarrassed afterwards, and from the people there watching, I felt I'd come out of it looking worse, as most of them didn't seem bothered by any of it at all. So not much point I felt. She'd go on thinking I'm a nutter!

I've no love for queues at the best of times, and massive social anxiety which is ramped up so high these days, so yep, home shopping for me from now on. Can't keep that level of self control up for weeks/months depending on how this situation pans out.

If I went home to Ireland and ate a bat and started a pandemic, that would more people per capita than China eating bats.

So what exactly does that prove? This came from China just like SARS and just like H5N1. I don't give a flying f**k how many people per capita are eating bats.

It came from China and it's has happened before.

We're in a right mess now and they're boasting about having it under control with no new cases. I don't believe that for a minute, not a chance it's under control.
