Houlahan said today that 55% of those infected are male, 43% female.

    Yeah, me neither.

    I've seen a bigger divide.

Males are more risk-taking than females in general. On the other hand, females are more hypochondriac so might get tested more.

    Any gender divide stats?

Yeah, seems interesting that the deaths have been mostly male.

In China, some people, like myself, were thinking it was because of higher rates of smoking in men.

But same in Italy, but also smoking too?

    I don't know.

It's about time the public get to see a decent stats report on this, but morbidity seems to be towards men.

I actually now think that when Trump says China virus is because he hates China. Especially it's leader. This virus (which China are now supposedly almost clear off) is going to ruin his chance of re-election, his personal fortune and the economy.
Apparently Us cases peak is still 5 weeks away with figures close to 20k already. The health care system will collapse. The economy will be hammered.
2 rivals and one is going to be severely weakened while the other also takes a hit but is at least recovering

It's the deaths that we can see in men, not the cases.

There are people that still don't get it?

Obviously wearing a proper N95 mask that's well fitted would help in some circumstances, though it's unlikely to in day to day activity. Medical professionals probably wouldn't wear them in those circumstances.

The main point is there's a massive shortage in them, that's the main reason why they're telling people not to purchase them. I have some of those masks somewhere. There are also studies that show the virus can be transferred to the mask and actually make it worse, if it's not done correctly. Realize also that the masks at least the ones I'm thinking of are designed to only be worn once. They could also create huge paranoia for some people who start thinking about masks a lot. Try to read between the lines sometimes.

There are doctors in Italy without having even gloves, and particularly masks and the same is happening in the UK. I recommend you concentrate on the basics and forget about masks. They are not indicated for your activities.
Calm down, I'm only asking a question. Point taken and thank you for the clarification. Duly noted !

I don't believe that. He has the CIA, the LAPD, the FBI all trying to take him down in a court of law, and there was no evidence , but then that one way documentary convinced the world.
Two guys who said it was not about the money are currently in court now looking for millions on the back of the documentary.
    The world was duped.
    But that's for another thread..

That documentary didn't convince me. I grew up with the chap singing and adored him. Looking back though he wasn't a regular type chap to be fair 🤔

What's really tragic is that a lot of these "more valuable" younger people will be the same ones going around thinking they're invincible and causing the outbreaks in the first place.

from what I am seeing there are more older people who are thinking they are invincible

I'm more worried about what the other 2% are.

I see the condescension is strong in you.

I apologise for the condescension Sir.

My frustration is because I've been asking for 6 weeks now why our borders remain wide open. All I'm met with here is guys telling me its obvious and even a child would know the answer yet when I ask them what that is they disappear!

Wearing a mask is unlikely to make any difference to you, but if every Tom, Dick and Harry starts buying and wearing masks it will cause supply issues for the people who really need them, namely healthcare workers.

but I think the point BTW was making was if everyone wore a mask, sympomatic or not , if they carried the virus it would stop them shedding to people who were virus free.
So while wearing a mask wont make a difference to YOU it might to people you come into contact with.
supply chains are a different matter

Where did you get this nonsense from?

    The WHO.

60% population infection if the genie gets out of the bottle, mortality of 3 to 6%

    65 million * 60% * 3% to 6%

1.2 million to 2.5 million deaths over the life of the virus.

Because it would be a monumental task to arrange this when the disease is already in the country and all efforts are going in to dealing with it right now, or preparing for the severity of what may happen.

And most importantly, the people who are managing this and deciding the best course of action do not feel it is worth doing at this point.

Also, if you started asking this question 6 weeks ago, then that would have been at a time when doing so would probably have been even more difficult to arrange and explain and would also lead to a precedence where every time WHO says we need to pay attention, people like you would be saying 'We should close the borders immediately'.

And so what if something is difficult to arrange or explain I hear you ask. Because there is a fine line between the population accepting something and rowing in behind the efforts (as is happening now) and thinking it is either ok to ignore it, or to go in to outright panic potentially leading to societal breakdown in places.

I love Simon Harris’ face at the start !!
Well Eamon Ryan did cause us to laugh in a very bleak time.
I think he had a point but went about it in a hilarious way!

Although its a short snippet, must have been more to it in the overall context.

He was talking about mental health and keeping hardware stores open. I think his point was if people or the elderly do have to self isolate, they’ll need something to do - painting , planting , diy in general to keep us all busy and sane.

Do we think the fact that we have rolling news and social media is making all this worse?

Say it kills 2.5 million over its lifespan. The Spanish flue killed between 50mill and 100mill.

Is this one so scary because we are hering about it ALL THE TIME?

Would a way out of this be to get the kids back to school and the adults back to work before the economy crashes like we've never seen before.
Order all the main at risk groups to self isolate and practice social distancing. Focus all our rescources at them to provide whatever they need. Realistically, how long can we live like this. Let us get back to work because the consequences for most of us will be far worse than catching a virus that will be mild for most.

Why I don't like Eamon Ryan even though I heavily support green policy, though I don't remember him ever being as dumb as this before.
