So the number of new today was lower than yesterday but if(heavy lifting here) the number of new cases doesn't double of triple over the weekend is there scope however small to be hopeful ? The people in my life aren't that annoyed over the social distancing it's the fact they are hoping for a glimmer of hope that we won't get like Italy or Spain and we may be able to reopen stuff on a phased basis in a couple of months. That may be wishful thinking but my family can't be that much different to anyone else's.

Wouldn't pay too much attention to the numbers today.

In a week it will clearer.

With 20,000 people coming back from Spain this week.

And the fact that people here still haven't copped on to how serious this is we will go up again with numbers.

The average person just doesn't seem to grasp exactly what China did to get on top of this. I live near a park and the constant stream of people in and out of it all week that I can see from my living room window is outrageous.

Literally no one was on the streets of Wuhan/Hubei for months. The only activity on the streets were trucks disinfecting them.

I'm not sure we have the capability or desire to get rid of this in the manner China did.

This will never happen here because if it did we'd have an even bigger problem than the virus.

Do you have any idea of the control the Chinese government has.

Theres a start but read about the mass detention, internment and concentration camps in that country.

Let me repeat, they intern people into concentration camps.

What makes you think that? This is only starting.

So you want Ireland to become like wuhan china ? Maybe it's just me but I'd prefer to not even get within an arses roar of the worst countries with this virus.

Stay safe guys and here if you wanna talk to someone I am always here,

Why do we need more Gardai? What are they doing to tackle coronavirus?

I mean the pubs are closed, very little in the way of public disorder. Even the scumbags appear to be self isolating. Roads are very quite leading to less road collisions and harder to do people for driving over the limit! I'm not sure what the rush was to get them out of templemore.

It's really in case we do go to full lockdown then they will be making sure people are not out + about.

Today numbers aren't so bad, expected to be high for the next few days as test from before isolation come back

Is it illegal for pubs to be open? I know of one ...

Report to guards - be a shock waiting for him next time he's before the courts for renewal

Preparing for worst case scenario ie. full on lockdown and enforcing people to stay in. Better be prepared for an eventuallty that may or may not happen.

The Guards can go down and ask them to close, which they will!

Very possible the lockdown will become more severe for a time during April. In which case they will definitely be required.

On a final point, is there anything worse than the old biddies sitting on their computer moaning about a few teenagers having a chat with their friends. They're only kids who are already putting up with huge restrictions on their lives. How would you have felt at 16 if you were told to spend the next two months with nobody only your family. Give the whinging a break.

You come across like one of those teenagers to me.
In this day and age we have phones, video calls, texting.
Those young people could be responsible for an older personal getting infected and dying.
Of course as long as they don't know about know they caused the death it doesn't really matter does it?!

We are self isolating . What's the protocol on taking the kids to the beach to stave off cabin fever. Won't go near anyone , just drive there, let them run around for an hour or two then into the car and home. Is that still allowed?

A guy from work (who is out) has his mother (80s) rushed into Galway presenting with all the symptoms. I heard about it at work. Spoke to him (he called). I know him well. He sound like a shell of himself. This stuff is scary as F****. She is septic, pneumonia and a lot of underlying issues. My heart is breaking for the man. Guys and gals, mind yourself out there. I am taking a break from this thread because I am mentally drained from all of this. I still maintain tourism activities should have been stopped at the sources (flights, tour operators, buses and tourism sites around the country) and the government should have acted on this sooner to limit the damage. My 2 cents. I wish you all and your loved ones the best.

Sorry to sound morbid. I am just burned out.

No, you have fallen for the nonsense peddled by the alarmists. Current global average temperature is about 14.5°C. Lets say it gets to 20°C - that's the annual average temperature of Sydney. Clearly no one could possibly live in Sydney so everyone will die. The optimum temperature for photosynthesis is around 30°C. So if the planet warms up, and there is more CO2 in the atmosphere, plants, given enough water, will go absolutely mental. The very reason there is so much coal and oil is thought to be because of exactly this - abundant plant growth, which supported vast and abundant animal life, namely the dinosaurs.

Fun fact: For the length of time there has been life on Earth, most of that time there weren't any polar ice caps, because it was much warmer than at present - like mid twenties. The time slice in which we live is one of the coldest periods life on Earth has ever known.

There was also a lot less land and there wasn't 8 billion people on the planet hell bent on poisoning every river, stream and sea. Keep convincing yourself with the fairy stories though.

What does it mean when Tony says some are hospitalised for public health reasons rather than clinical reasons?

If you remember, all the early cases identified were hospitalised whether this was necessitated clinically or not. (Possibly it assisted the medics in getting more familiar with clinical features?). This is no longer happening but the numbers are still included in the statistics and may give a distorted impression of the number with severe symptoms so far.

Definitely go somewhere or you will go a bit mad. Just maintain a decent distance from other people.
I am still walking the dog two or three times a day, just avoiding people and picking quieter places to walk him

If its a country pub I wouldn't bother.

Guards are probably inside drinking with the locals.
