Forgive my ignorance but is today’s number good that it dropped from 191 yesterday?

Can you see the number of tests anywhere. I would guess the high figures yesterday related to dropping of the bar on who can get tested and then were they running short on test kits Wednesday and resupplied yesterday which could have a bearing on todays.

Ok,I'll indulge you. Below is offical advice I have found in relation to wearing of facemasks.

    HSE

    CDC

    WHO

    Dutch Health Ministerie

So please find me official advice that people should wear face masks?

But if it stops health workers from getting the virus or at least helps them why would it not help the average joe? I honestly dont get the contradiction on this 1

Might be a silly question but why has there only been 3 deaths in Ireland so far despite there being 683 confirmed cases (probably thousands infected though)

I pray this mortality rate stays low

I reckon most cases are younger people (back from hols etc) hopefully the partial shutdown of the country has saved our older population from being highly affected

Possibly , the UK are obviously determined to protect their economy and are getting up to speed on slowing the advance of the virus we seem to be disregarding the economy but very focused on slowing the virus .

    I prefer our approach :)

It may reflect the testing pattern , we need to see a plateau followed by a decrease.

Facemasks on anyone who is not actually sick or involved in treating a sick person is nothing but an attention seeking total affectation and these people should be jeered on the street.

Masks give significant protection when used properly. They are not recommended because there is a shortage.

It seems to have a lot to do with the age profile of the people who have it. That plus relative health condition.

There was an article on CNN that highlighted the difference in mortality between South Korea and Italy. Basically it seemed that South Koreas infected were mostly young and female, non smokers etc. Whereas Italys infected were the opposite, older males with high precentage of smoking and other medical conditions.

We might have some benefit of the range of infected at the moment. Lets hope the trend continues.

No, the measures would only be removed when daily cases are virtually zero.

even at this extremely early stage it is, especially considering more and more tests being done.

I think he meant additional measures, like an increase in closures in addition to the school closures- cafes, restaurants etc

I wish they would give the date that the results relate to. It could have been Patrick’s day or Wednesday but for some reasons it’s not revealed.

Surely masks would be appropriate PPE for people who work in supermarkets or airport's where staff will be in close contact with people that have it?

Health workers adhere to the right protocols putting them on and taking them off and change them regularly disposing of them properly. The general public does not know how to do this and could be constantly readjusting once for comfort thereby providing themselves no protection
