Don't think you're comparing apples with aples there. Isn't the €203 our unemployment assistance whereas the 80% thing is a grant to an employer to keep someone on, rather than lay them off?

the employer needs to inform HMRC - as in the employee is furloughed and still tied to that employer. But its not a grant - the government will pay the furloughed employee directly.

Whereas in Sweden or Germany, the employer can lay off the worker, but the worker can claim 80% of their wages for a year from social welfare directly.

Time to open up the Apple bank account!

Our government is either broke or deluded , they have made essentially no effort to support the economy or recently laid off in comparison to the UK .

€200 is miniscule, it won’t cover half the rent if I lose my job. Poor response from the Government on supporting businesses and employees. Nothing has been done other than offering pay standard social welfare.

cork and limerick have high numbers

Dublin has 200 plus of the total?

Lock down Cork and Limerick too. How can they knowingly ask us to self isolate, when they won't isolate every other county from the epicentre .

My uncle is deteriorating rapidly, from cancer, not COVID19. If he dies in the near future, the family isn’t going to have a funeral because there are quite a few immunocompromised people amongst our ranks. There’s me, my aunt who is 60ish and has a serious autoimmune disease and two of her children, aged early to mid 30s who have a different autoimmune disorder. One of them has it very bad, it almost killed him a few years ago. I’m so sad that we won’t be able to honour my uncle’s life at the time of his passing. :( But we can’t risk it.

Then, my husband’s aunt is also in the final stages of cancer. Her husband is distraught because the hospital are only allowing him 5 minutes with her a few times a day. They actually set a timer on his visits. I’m not sure why they are doing that. She’s not going to bounce back at this stage. She’s in the final stages of the disease. It seems like they could use their discretion.

I just wanted to share these anecdotes to highlight the human cost. I hope we get a breakthrough of some kind soon: flattening of the curve, an existing medication that might help treat it, a vaccine, anything.

Presumably there was a backlog of tests from Patrick's Day yesterday, explaining today's "decline"?

    That's a lot better than yesterday. :)

Is there a pattern where it rises, following day it rises again, next day dips below that point and then you have a large increase the following day?

Two idiots down here in Galway, were in Dubai (one of the busiest hubs in the world) and came back yesterday. No self isolation and now meeting frontline staff at the hospital. All for a cheap photo opp and some publicity

How do you know? Call them out on it if it's true. They should be adhering to restricted movement, not self isolating, unless they have symptoms of course.

If COVID-19 was around in the winter, why weren't our hospitals full like the Italian hospitals are now? Utter bullsh1t that what people had in the middle of winter was COVID-19.
I've heard a few people claiming it's been here since November. If that was the case why did it stick to the one province in China (in the early days certainly). There has been a very clear spread from the initial epicentre in Wuhan, and the way it has, almost literally, gripped the whole world

There is no way this could have been missed or indeed covered up. If people were dying or in poor health earlier in the winter, particularly the aged, that may be down to the "regular" flu-type bugs going round

to be honest, these schemes in the UK are way too bureaucratic - they need to implement a universal basic income model. No means test.

The UK paying 80% of monthly wages up to £2.5k for those workers impacted is unreal. Makes our €203 a week (€880 a month) seem miniscule in comparison.

    How can they afford it?

there are 27 clusters around the country ,clusters are key , also more health care workers in Dublin to that throws the dub numbers off

Low enough numbers in ICU so, manageable for the teams. I'd say a surge in ICU during the next few days but 12 in ICU is a good figure
